Glass jars making my buds stink...

I've been looking around a little bit and haven't seen anything about this, and wanted to see if other people have this problem too. My last and only 2 cures, the glass jars I used had a bad rubbery smell that rubbed off on my buds, ruining the great fragrance they had before I put them in the jars. I tried boiling and washing a couple jars out and the smell seemed to stay. Just wondering if anyone knows how to stop this or if there are jars that do not have this bad smell. I have used "Ball" mason jars from Wal-mart so far. I have a northern lights ready to chop and i don't want to ruin the sweet smell it has. Thanks!

Yeh i burp them everyday, I just had some fruit spirit that I have been curing and they smelled so good going in and smell like rubber or plastic coming out, really kills alot of the bag appeal. I did boil the lids for about 15 minutes and didn't seem to do a whole lot. I may just buy some new jars, maybe switch brands and see if that changes anything.

Also, when I first got the jars and opened one up, there was a bad glue/rubber smell and for some reason I didn't think of it affecting the weed. So it is something that came from the jar, not my environment.

This is gonna sound odd, but my Ball jars have never smelled bad.
Your best bet for dealing with the odor imo is to soak the jars in oxygen bleach (like OxiClean) for a day or to. Anything that can come off ... will. cn

Use a welches grape jelly jar...never have a prob with em, walmart makes cheap glass jars so it might be the epoxy they use to seal it or something, don't know bro...try the jelly jar, it works

Well I'm glad to hear noone else has had a problem with them, really weird though. It was definitely a very distinct smell though. There is a red coating of glue/rubber on the lid so i thought it was that, but I knew if it made everyone's bud smell like that, someone would have a solution or a thread on it. I may just do that robert, thanks. Thanks for everyone's input!

If they are just average glass ball mason jars then rinse the glass with a little white distilled vinegar. You DO NOT need to soak the jars just swoosh it for a few seconds using your hand to cover the jar (do not use with the lid if it has the cardboard paper inside the lid) and rinse withe water. A little goes a long way, the vinegar will neutralize the smell instantly.

I have a few fancy pants jars that have a plastic /rubbery seal that is permanently affixed to the lid which makes my buds smell like plastic and there is nothing you can do about that.

I bought a case and they smelled when i first opened it, like you described a stinky glue rubber smell plus some funk but after opening the jars the smell dissipated...hopefully they did at least.. I wondered this as well..

Yeh I bought some more bigger ball jars and they didn't have as much smell as the others and most of it went away after I washed them in the dishwasher. Just got done drying, so now onto curing. I'll see how these new ones do. I just hate ruining such a great smell and I don't know if it affects the taste either, so hopefully the problem doesn't persist.

And there is part of your problem. Do NOT boil the lids with the rubber gasket. They can be heated to about 180 degs or so, but do not boil. Buy some new lids they are sold separately.

I bought some new Ball jars and they do have a strong smell inside. Must be from the cleaning process. I can imagine this stinky smell getting into flowers! So I simply rinsed mine with hot water, and let them air dry. Now they have zero smell.
