have not been using calmag, no other supplements besides the GH flora series and the diamond nectar. I have been looking into the mg deficiency though, and from what I read here:
http://www.gardenscure.com/420/soil-ph/27653-ph-magnesium-deficiency.html

that it may be a lockout of mg due to ph staying to low, they recomend letting it swing up to around 6 or so, so that mg becomes avalible. This could be the cause of my trouble, as I have been checking and keeping ph right at 5.8 daily, mabye I could let it ride for a few days and let the ph rise a bit and see if it helps.
btw how are your girls doing? Hopefully better :weed:
Yes I was going to talk about the lock-outs next. I am going to flush my babes tomorrow with the salt buildup remover. I will let you know how that goes in about a week or so. I think your problem could defin. be the PH...so check that first and then add the CAL/MAG anyways becuase this is a common deficiency in nutes & plants it seems. The Hydro store lady said ALL the plants could use it anyway.....but start slow, like 1/2 the smaller recommendation.

My babes are good...just the sick 4. They are loving the foliar spray w/ a very low concentration of trace minerals in it, when they are sleeping of course.

OK, what is the deal with RO water? Why are so many people using it and how expensive is it? What creates the RO part of it? I am using PUR filtered water or tap water that sits out overnight... The water TASTES delicious out of the tap ( i can't taste the chlorine and I actually mistook it for WELL water!).

I don't have CO2 so my spots aren't from that.

If your pH is around 5.6-5.8 you shouldn't be having any lockout... I think there just isn't enough mg in there.

You plants can totally use Cal Mag with RO water, no matter what nutes you are using (there may be some that have it included in high doses, but I don't think so). I know your bottle says they have Calcium and Magnesium in them but you need more.

RO water means Reverse Osmosis Filtered... what us growers like is a 5 stage RO filter... it takes everything out of the water... so you just get water. There are 6 stages, but we don't like those the 6th stage de-ionizes the water and that's not good for us.

If you are using tap water you are feeding your plants whatever is in the water... PUR only gets rid of some stuff, the PUR filter is like 1 of the 5 stages in a RO filter.

You can use tap water, or PUR filtered (better), but if you are crazy picky (like me) and want everything perfect perfect perfect you want RO. You could go to walmart and buy distilled water, it's just as good, but will get expensive over time, and you will get sick of hauling bottles (unless you like that kind of stuff)

Plus your plants can only take XXX ppm, whatever that is... and if you are using tap water your ppm is already 150-500 coming out the tap... so you can only add so many nutes before you get burn... with RO there is 0 ppm, becuase nothing is in it, then you can load it up with nutes. There are some nutrients that are designed to only be used in RO... I think those companies have different lines for Tap water.

Tap water has magnesium and calcium in it, that's why the cal-mag isn't crucial, but with RO it is crucial (in my opinion)... I think that would fix wowzerz problem...

blueberry1 I still don't know about you... sorry.

Also, I am no pro, so don't take what I say as gospel, but I think I'm correct on this one.

I think that I will stick with the tap water and use the PUR. If I keep having the problem then I will switch but I know others who are using the same water and its fine. Seems like my tap would have alot of calcium in it. We'll see what happens its not too big of a deal the plants are still growing strong!

You will probably be happy with this one...i was recommended it if you can find it. Any other would be fine I'd think....make sure its for Hydro. This one has added things like nitrogen, iron.

I got ripped off....this one is cheap but have to pay shipping. Mine was $18 inc. tax but it lasts a long time!

either nute burn, ph is too high, metal deposits from tap water, or light burn, lights are either too close, or burns from tin foil or mylar

yeah... you can get it at the hydro store... there are a bunch of different brands... pretty much the same... I would get something on the cheaper end (to save a couple bucks)... Advanced Nutrients even has two different cal-mags for veg and flower... (you don't need that)

I have used both TechnaFlora MagiCal and Botanicare Cal-Mag Plus... liked them both... the botanicare smells more (but a good smell). A liter should last a while and is like $12.

Thanks for your response. Are you responding to Wowz or my thread or both? I am going to flush mine w/ build-up remover, so that should clear up any deposits

My leaves are a bit worse than his, but healthy. ;-)

blueberry... you never told us the ph of your rez... you are doing ebb and flow?

Also... have you calibrated your pm meter lately?

PPM are like 1200 so I think a bit high.
PH is about 6, but had to test it with the ph test kit. My fancy meter is off I believe but says 5.9, which is about what the ph test shows. Do you think it will work properly with all the other crap plugged into the same strip?

I'm not using ebb & flow however considering doing a continuous flow. Some of my little stubborn girls seem to be droopy when I water them alot so I am waiting to water till they perk up a bit. My table drains into a gutter that collects the water and sends it through a basic tank filter then shoots the water right back up into the rockwool. U Can check out the pics on my thread link below :)

Thank u for ur help.

I don't know anything about ebb and flow, do you aerate the water before you fill the table... in other words do you run an air pump all the time. I ask becuase of the droopiness not the leaves thing.

the ph meter should work fine plugging in with the rest... thats the same as with mine. You should calibrate it one a week anyhow, they should have given you extra solution when you bought it... if not you can get calibration solution at the hydro store..

and that website is great... plantlightinghydroponics.com that's where I got a lot of my stuff.

EDIT: haha, just read the title of the last post... you need solution... nevermind what I just said... I'm checking your journal now.

I think ebb & flow is just continous drainage, the roots flow out across the table (its like $175 for the table). I don't know exactly tho. I made my own for cheap. Not sure what I am going to do with the roots yet. Whats your advice for 6 inch hydro cubes?? I dont plan to get larger pots.

Ha I never purchased from that site just googled it to show what I bought from the store. What nutes do you use????? I'm on NSR Greenleaves Grow, Boost, Superthrive, Seaweed, now cal/mag for my sickies

No idea on the rock wool cubes... from what I can remember seeing others do, I think everything will be fine... I think you just need to make sure the roots are out of the light. Like I said I don't know anything about e&f... someone who runs it would be able to tell you

I use Dutch Master stuff... I like chemicals... I have Advance Grow A+B (main veg nutes), Advance Flower A+B (main flower), Silica, Potash+, Max Grow, Max Flower, Zone (all the additives), Cal-Mag plus, FloraNectar (sweetener), and just started Gravity (flower hardener).

I also sprayed my girls with DM Liquid Light & Gold Penetrator.

I think I've spent about $500 on nutes... but a lot of it will last a few grows... I also have a 30 gal rez so I use alot.

Your nutes sounds pretty good, I only know mine, but you don't seem to be missing anything... with the cal mag use a small amount becuase you are using filtered water instead of RO... I'd try like 2 or 3 mL per gallon... it shouldn't hurt to put 5-8 mL but you will just be wasting cal-mag.

I could do my research but are the Dutch brand organic nutes? I think my NSR Greenleaves are mostly chems.Trying to find this one I was just recomended but forgot the name. They are so damn expensive but I've heard great things. Hey i've spent over $3000 on setup..you are doin ok!!!!!!

I just tied down one girl, bent her top, and will be trying sideways with her new growth comin in. I'll also be toppin off some to test that out. Its so fun.

Dutch is Not organic... I'm the kind of guy who really love Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, can't stand actuall cheese and macaroni that is cooked, haha. So I'm a fan of manufactured/ processed stuff. Organic is great, but I figure man makes better steroids and stuff and I really want to grow unnaturally monsterous plants. I never really had a problem with dr. frankenstiens plan, he just should have had a tranq. gun.

And yeah, I've spent over $3,000 too, just $500 on the nutrients. All I got for my $3k was a little closet and you get a new room built (i want to talk to my grow room constructor).

It is totally fun to play with them... especially once you get over the nervous mother part and see how resilliant they are. It's like you can do whatever you want with them and they just keep doing their thing, unbothered.

Make sure to keep a good journal (and I don't mean this on the comp). Write in a notebook everything you do and change to look back on... It will help a lot.

Also, I think it's awesome youre growing. I've seen girls on here, but never really got into their grows... it's nice to hear a girls voice for a change (even if it's through typing).

Tried any of that cal-mag yet?

EDIT: I don't know what my problem is, you answered the cal-mag question in the post before this, duh.

edit again: I'm not so stupid, we were actually posting at the same time.... now I'm not stupid, but we do have a psychic connection, haha. (you should be worried)
