Getting back at it!!

Hello all!! I've had a recent break in growing and am getting back into a position to get back into it, last time I had a semi perpetual and very poor CFL grow throughout. The last plants I had were my only keepers and they never made it to harvest. :(
This time I'm gonna upgrade to a mh/hps set up in a tent. I'm looking at 2x4 or a 4x4 with 2-400w or 2-600w if I can fit them. With the 600 I feel if I have a chance I would need to use cooltubes given the heat they would produce, right? But if 2-400w would be good I'd rather use a reg reflector if I can.

I've been looking at this site a lot recently and plan on using their 400-600w cooltubes/reflector depending on which I choose, but I've only seen the site referenced once and was wondering if anyone has experience with the company?
http://www.hpsgrowlightstore.com/hps1510/

they have setups going for ~$140-$200 for the size I'm looking at. Set includes timer both bulbs, ballast and tube/reflector.

I'm willing to spend the money to make sure everything is in place but I guess I'm just looking for someone with actual experience to say 'your on the right track' or something? The grow will be coco or soil and only 2-5 plants probably. Anyone's input would be great, and if I'm missing any needed info please go easy, I haven't been on until recently.

I've read some good reviews about those ipower kits. Most people I think got them off Ebay which is why you might not see that site mentioned much. I use a 400w in my 2x4 tent and it works well. You wouldn't need 2 in a 2x4. For the 4x4, I'd go with a 600w or 2. 2 400w would work as well, but either way you'll want cooltubes or some type of aircooled reflector. It makes controlling heat much easier.

What do you avg on yield if you dont mind me asking? but i think I have settled on two 400w with cool tubes from that site in a 4x4. The tent i havent priced out but i figure i can spend around $650 an have just about everything for a closet grow of similar size till I buy the tent.
That includes this fan/filter combo :
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-A-GrowBright-6in-Inline-Fan-&-Carbon-Filter-Combo.asp

I figure the room is about 6X6 so the lights might not be quite enough to fill the space but I've factored in 3 10x10 blackandwhite panda film from hydrofarm at $13ea. To make the room 'smaller' till I grab a tent. Other than that I need ducting and some odds and ends like medium and more of the fiber pots for the grow. However is that fan enough to vent the whole grow or should I get a booster fan for the lights and run the filter for the grow?
I'm starting to get excited again about this :)

My yields vary because I do different styles of growing, different strains and different numbers of plants. A lot of varibles go into to yield besides your light. I'd shoot for 1-2 oz. a plant. A real pro could do better I'm sure, but that's a good starting point. Don't buy those Growbright filters from HTG. They don't work, I've tried them. You'll want a quality filter. I use Phresh and have no complaints, but Phat, Can, Mountain Air and Rhino all seem to get good reviews.

Okay cool, 5-10 oz would be cool, def hope for more with two 400s but as you said quite a few variables go into it! thanks for at least giving a ball park on it, most ppl just laugh or ignore the post.

Sweet that's exactly why I'm on here asking these questions, just in case the stuff im gonna buy sucks!! Thanks for the heads up! Ill look at those brands as well!!
And I was gonna look at the agrowmax 4x4 but it's easily $50 more for the same tent as your guys! Again thank you for the heads up!! For the fan I want an inline for the filter/exhaust, but if I need I can run just a booster fan with ducting to cool the lights on their own if temps require it, or would I need a whole new inline/filter set up?

Those booster fans really don't have much power, especially when you hook up ducting or a carbon filter to them. You'll want a inline fan, probably a 6". A 4" might have enough cfms initially, but once you add ducting and a carbon filter the cfms start to drop.

Yes I had planned on a 6in vortex Fan:
http://www.horticulturesource.com/vortex-powerfans-vortex-inline-fan-6-449-cfm-1-to-11-each-p1580/

This carbon scrubber:

And still playing with the lights and size of tent. If I by chance go with 1-400w in a 3x3 would this fan filter set be too big, an if yes I can buy a speed control to slow it down right?

It would be oversized for a 3x3, but yes you could get a speed controller and adjust it accordingly. A tip on your filter. When you get it, hook your fan up to it (preferably outside) and run it for a little while. There will be some carbon dust from bounceing around in shipping and this will blow it out before installing it your grow room.
