This will be my first grow, the goal being to get myself hooked on actually cultivating the plant and not just researching it. I'm going to buy a grow box for hopefully my next grow so this current grow is just to get me hooked and more willing to really invest more in the operation sooner rather than later.
I have 4 dank bagseed seeds germmin' paper towel style on a heating pad. Only one has split and I don't think the other 3 are joining.

For my medium I'm using the best soil my local shop had, Fox Farm Ocean Forest. In the future I plan on using Subcool's Super Soil. I believe I have a 8" diameter pot, possibly 9".

The box is a shitty bookshelf with a super super heavy duty piece of card board as the door.
It's 12"x12"x32". It's relatively small but I should be able to grow a decent plant in it.

The bookshelf does have adjustable shelves which means adjustable lights... the fixture is two power strips heavy duty velcro'ed and then zip tied to a shelf from the bookshelf.

For the light bulbs...Veg = 3x 6500k & 3x 2700k Flower= 1 or 2x 6500k and so on..

Well I think thats about it for now... I hopefully will plant tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

night guys and gals.

Find a way to mount the lights horizontally.

There's not enough room in the box like that.

I can see potential here though, good luck! And oh yeah, Is there any ventilation? Weed likes fresh air.

There isn't enough room horizontally. The second power strip would have to sit higher than the first to fit and at that point the first set of bulbs and power strip would block most of the light. I feel going vertical, given this setup, will provide more light than using one or two strips horizontally. It also allows me the easiest adjustable option.

As for ventilation yes I know, however I have a few days till I need really worry about it though so I'm prob gonna put two holes in the walls and pop in two pc fans for exhaust and then somehow attach a small fan to the wall...maybe 2 screws and some zipties.

But I have seen your Rubber Maid doublestack, well done man looked good.

I just don't know how you're going to manage to flower in that thing :P

And thanks by the way, appreciate it.

Haha I'm sure as hell going to try. If you can grow successfully in a PC I think you can grow just about anywhere.

But yeah, I planted the seed 7/27. I left the lights on all night and they were decently hot. I definitely need to get some fans in there and some exhaust.

Right now I have my 2 strips with CFLs plugged into an extension chord whic is plugged into a heavier duty power strip. Should I go straight to the wall and skip the power strip?

If you do a 12/12 from seed and get really good scrog going then maybe. Wait I did'nt notice that you can raise the lights up some, it looked as tho you had maybe 12 of grow space I see now lol.

Yes, if I drill new holes at the top of the box this is about my maximum space. Definitely not big but its big enough.

as far as I know they wont sprout without light. and seedlings like it a bit hotter than full grown plants anyway, so you've got a week or so to get things under control before it starts hurting you.

Thanks, yeah I figured I had a few days at least to get a few things in order. Thanks for the reassurance though.

Update: It's been 3 days and about 2 hours since the seed was planted. Still no signs of life.. this is a dreadful wait. I'm holding off on watering.. I watered very slightly the first 2 days. It's hard not to though haha god damn you instant gratification.

I know that feel. Just remember that less is more and keep chanting "leave her alone until she's ready."

You got this, bro

Thanks, really man. I know I got it if she will just emerge.. It's the part I don't have a hand in per se.

UPDATE: 4 day marker is in 4 hours.. I've been leaving the door open and have a small fan in the door way blasting the lights for now. I also have a pc fan ontop of the fixture blowing air out of the box. I also plugged in my timer and i have set the lights to turn off for an hour while im getting ready for work. Im going to leave it 23/1 until i can block the light at least.

Looks lime just enough room to be succsesful. Cfls vertical will work as long as you have good reflectivity on the walls and what not. I would suggest topping early and lsting in a curcular manner around the pot. Also as for ventilation a few holes should be fine honestly for one small plant. Good luck buddy i lime the use of zipties! Might use those sometime

So I came home one day my box was really hot and my soil was really dry. I've learned in the past to go with my gut and I dug the DEAD seedling up.

So update!

i have another seed germmin paper towel method.

As for the box I would say its 90% complete. I painted to coats of flat white paint and added 3 PC fans for ventilation. I'm pretty in love with the ventilation because I put a lot of work into it. I'm going to make a PC Fan ventilation tutorial.

All I need to do is get those wire out of the way and some other little shit like putting screws above the top fan so I can put my light fixture at the highest point in the box. And cut 2 half circles out of the fixture so the wires run through nicely against the wall.

So I should be planting soon! FFOF again, but this time I'm going to put a small 1" circle of organic top soil right in the middle to plant the seed in. I don't want the ocean forest to burn the little girl before she can handle it.

So I think that's just about it. I should have another update soon!

All I need now is a way to raise the plant to the lights..

I'm hoping she will sprout tomorrow or the next day. The wait is killin me.
