germinating in a glass

when it sinks to the bottom usually after a 24hr period you should place into some wet paper towels on a plate then keep them in a dry warm dark place untill they crack.

yeah just leave it in water for 24 hours to soften up the shell , then put it in moist paper towel ,, * i never soak them in water 1st * ,, just get 2 pieces of paper towel , fold over 2 times ,, & get as wet as u can get them , then let drip for 10 seconds ,, now its ready ,, put seeds into wet towel & put in sandwhich bag , i always fill the bag with air & just stick them in my dresser drawer , 3 days later , BAM ,

I just germinated 3 White Widow seeds. I placed them in a cup of water for 10 hours and covered the glass with a towel to keep dark.

After 10 hours I took them out and placed them between moist paper towels which I placed on a small plastic plate. I inserted the plastic plate into a 1 gallon zip lock bag and sealed 3/4 of the way. I then placed another plastic plate over top of the plastic bag (on the OUTSIDE of the bag) and placed the whole thing on top of my DVR. (which is in a dark location).

I only did a 10 hour soak because I think that's enough time to soften the shell.

I used the plastic bag because it produced a high humidity environment and leaving the bag 1/4 unzipped allowed air to still get in.

I used plastic plates instead of standard ceramic dishes because they are flexible and can bend to get inside the plastic bag. Also, they are lightweight and I wanted to keep the weight on top of my DVR to a minimum.

Worked like a charm.... within 24 hours all 3 seeds had germinated seeds with approx. 1/4 tap root ready to plant. :)

When I first tried to germinate some seeds I had problems. I read a bunch of threads here and took different pieces of info. and came up with what I posted in my earlier post. I make no promises for anyone else... but it worked for me.

I've attached images to show the different steps after the 10 hour soak in water.

Image 1 - plastic plate (paper too flimsy, ceramic too heavy.. plastic.. just right). Thoroughly moist paper towel folded lenthwise; soaked seeds on paper towel.

Image 2 - paper towel folded over seeds to cover them

Image 3 - Plate with paper towel put inside a 1-gallon zip lock. I gave the top of the bag a quick mist of water from a spray bottle to start the humidity effect. Notice the zip lock is only sealed 3/4 of the way. This is to allow air to enter, circulate and help the humidity effect.

Image 4 - Another plastic plate on OUTSIDE / Top of the bag. This second plate is for nothing more then helping to shield light. I put it on the OUTSIDE of the zip lock because I want the humidity droplets to fall onto the paper towel inside the bag to keep the seeds moist so I don't have to re-wet them with a spray bottle.

Image 5 - Sitting on top of my DVR. My DVR is on a shelf under my tv in a dark corner of the room. Not completely dark... but apparently dark enough as it worked.

Hope that helps.... I know how frustrating germination problems are.... I lost 6 seeds before I figured out a way to idiot proof the process for myself. Good luck :)

I just germinated my seeds in a cup of water until they started 2 crack open and/or sprout. It seemed to work just fine, just put them in the soil, i dunno whats gunna happen yet, its only been like 5 hours. i ended up having to replant in different soil. I mixed my Hydronex soil with some other kind of soil, i dunno what kind, but it was from last year, its been sitting in my room, but its got plenty of perlite in it, where as the Hydronex soil had none, im excited 2 watch the growing process, ive never done this before, i dont have lights either, There in my window, it gets good sun tho, and on nice days, which are gettin more and more common. i will put them outside all day, im also feeding them with a mix i made with 2 liters of water, and a tps. of molasses, can anyone tell me if this is a good idea? at this stage anyways?. its all i got for now, but i will be buying some good stuff with good nutes, and is high in nitrogen, which i hear is good for the plant in early ages, well anyways to wrap it up. The plants will be going outside, in about a month hopefully, im doing them in 5 gallon buckets, its good for growing up here in maine, good light cycles. i will be able to harvest by late september early october, depending on the weather., im going to start a grow log thing sometime here soon, so you guys should look it up if u got the time,
