Germinate in rock wool or paper towel?

Hello.

This will be my first hydroponic grow and I have few questions before I get started


1. What is the preferred method of germination? From what I have read some people say to germinate then place the seed root down in the rock wool?

2. Also when the seed does have sprout is it necessary to hand water (being that the root is too short yet)?


I'm sorry if these questions are general knowledge but I can't seem to find a good article about this first essential step.


I have a six plant DWC system similar to this one... (included: expanded clay pellets and rock wool)

I soak my seeds in a shot glass for a day and then place them in my rockwool. It only takes about four days till I see them sprout maybe one has moved passed helmet head.
