General consensus? 36hrs of dark before flower?

Here is the quote from the book;

Give plants 36 hours of total darkness just before inducing flowering with the 12/12 photoperiod. This heavy dose of darkness sends plants an unmistakable signal to flower sooner. Growers using this technique report that plants normally show signs of flowering such as pistil formations, within two wWeeks and develop pistils after a week of flowering.
Growers have experimented with giving plants upto 48 hours of total darkness to jump-start flowering and have found that 36 hours three contiguous 12-hour nights-is most effective.

Like Roseman said, it doesnt sound natural...but it might work. Still tempted to give it a try...I will post some pics of before and after. We found a hermi the other night and it looks like the rest of them are all ladies...so far good!

Thanks for the link Nocturn3, i will give that a good read before I make my decision :)

The above statement is written in third person. The replies to this question are from growers just like me and you and we all pretty much say the same thing.
That should answer your curiosity about the topic.
Personally, the only extra or lack of light regime is when I am switching lights or harvesting at a certain time that might differ from my schedule.

it you want to slam your plant into flower, eliminate the stretch period, AND knock a week of of flowering time then use Bushmaster for 5 days before you switch to 12/12. no fancy light schedules, no fertility dances, just pistils 3-5 days after the switch.

BM is expensive but its literally several drops per gallon and you only use it for a few days each cycle so a small bottle will last till you die.

I would not do this ! i drop the time down by half an hour over a 2 week period till i hit 12/12, you are after all trying to mimic the great outdoors, its already been said ( DOES THE SUN DO THIS ? ) YOU ALSO DONT KNOW THE BACKGROUND OF YOUR STARIN AND COULD STRESS IT. 3 words- KEEP IT SIMPLE

A plant does not really care about gradual light intensity change. There is no benefit to slowing reducing photoperiod to 12/12(it'll just veg longer, with less net total solar energy collected during the photoperiod... meaning diminished growth for those inbetween periods). Numerous university research studies have demonstrated this; going directly from 18/6 to 12/12 is the best. Instead of gradually changing, consider keeping with 18/6 for that period. You'll thank me later -come harvest. :peace:

Was that just before flowering? Cause...according to cervantes it helps the buds come out quicker?

I will be home soon, i will type up what he says so you guys can see what you think.

no doubt be a load of shite  but i wanted to double check with the good people of RIU before I did it with my plants
I go from 18/6 to 72hr dark then 12/12. I get puffballs from top to bottom in a week.

I have done two DWC Bubbleponic grows at someone elses house on halves. I loaned them my tanks, I bought the nutes, I was the teacher and we split the harvest. As an experiment, (they didn't know any better) I tried the 18/6 instead of 24/7. BIG MISTAKE, BIG WASTE OF TIME.Compaed to my grow journal notes about my other grows, 18/6 was much slower than 24/7.
I also tried the gradually going to 12/12, BIG MISTAKE, BIG WASTE OF TIME. BIG WASTE OF TIME.BIG WASTE OF TIME.

Diffrent strains for diffrent gains, if i ran my lights 24/7 in the uk my door would go in with the power i was using, also the sun does not shine 24/7, i have mates who run 24/7, its just a matter of opinion, i always say go with what your getting good results with, as they say if it aint broke why fix it.

I've heard 20/4 is the best(and I use). I've tried the 24/7.... And they don't seem to grow as much as they do with a dark period. As soon as I went back to 20/4 they boomed with new growth.

how is changing your timer every day for 2 weeks keeping it simple?

complete waste of time. flowering is triggered by a buildup of hormones in the plant that only reaches the appropriate level after 12 consecutive hours of darkeness.

When they talk back they say --''ME SO HORNY''
