G13 Labs Gigabud under LED's grow and smoke report

Hello and welcome to my first journal. Please allow me to start off by saying that constructive posts are welcome. Flamers please refrain since I already know that LED's are not perfect yet, my nutes cost too much, etc etc...

My experience with Gigabud started in October 2010 when I first dropped the feminized seeds in the water. I only managed to successfully germinate one out of the five. With the old school seeds I used to get 9 out of 10 but my experiences with feminized seeds have been very disappointing from several breeders. They just seem to be so weak.

Once the plant is established, the Gigabud is a very good cloner. After a day or three they stand up and I've consistently had 4 out of 5 pull through the process.

In my setup, the clones are raised in a GH Rainforest for about 4 weeks and then replaned into GH Powergrower ECO's and vegged for another two weeks under a 180w Jumbo UFO.

In this setup, flowering is under three 90w UFO's. Two of those are the Illuminators and one is a "Flower Accelerator". All of my units were purchased from Prosource. I use a light mover from "Agramover" which is a 2rpm to slowly "fly" the UFO's back and forth in a 4' X 8' area of two tents I put together.

For the hydroponics, I use Advanced Nutrients Sensi two part bloom. All of the water is reverse osmosis and conditioned with Advanced PH down and Advanced CalMag at 10ml per 2 us gal. My additions are B-52 and Big Bud. I inoculate with VooDoo Juice and Pirhana at 1/2 the recommended rate a couple of times.

Gigabud is a good plant for the beginner because it is hardy and very tolerant to nutrients. I personally have not used nutrient strengths above 1200 to 1500 ppm but the clones just thrive. When placed into flowering 12/12 the bud sites just come jumping out forming a nice busy and low plant. The stretch is very minimal and is very good for those with limited height. On the other hand, the one I have does not produce any tall colas. Thus the yields are limited to one nug per flower site, although the plant makes alot of them.

Flowering is fast and this hard worker gets it all done in 8 weeks or maybe 9 if you like to let it ripen more. On the seed pack G13 Labs says the genetic is "Top Secret" but I would guess that this is a White Widow X Juicy Fruit kind of cross. All of the leaves sticking out from the buds are totally frosted and look pure white under a bright light. The smell is very neutral and suitable for those worried about stealth.

The stone is very light for a daytimer. There is no couch lock on this one in my experience. A medical patient likes this one for relaxation and relief from anxiety.
In the photos, the close up is a clone at week 6. In the tents those clones are weeks 1 through 3.

Things are moving along nicely. I just replanted some new genetics from my Rainforest into individual dripper buckets. Always hopeful to find that special genetic but I am happy enough with Gigabud to keep it in propagation.

Quick update. The Gigabud clones are jumping. Although I did manage to burn one. So now there is a Pandora auto there in it's place, the front one. I suppose I'll consider posting a new thread on the Pandora, but I like that one so far. My first auto ever and I had to move her under the carbon filter because as soon as she began she got very smelly.

Well I see that I've had quite a few views of this thread, so here is another update. The Gigabud clones pictured here are at weeks 4 and 5 of flowering. They are both approx. 24 inches tall and about 18 inches in width. I can fit three in a 4'x4' tent with no crowding or four of them with a bit of crowding. Nice and predictable hard worker this strain is. No smell at all. Great for personal medical and recently I hurt my back out doing some outside gardening and was glad this one has fairly decent pain relief without the couch lock.

Interesting to see a side by side of some vegging genetics. In this pic, the one in Front is a freebie Cannabia LaBlanca from fem seed. The rear Left is a Gigabud clone. And the Rear Right is Paradise Seeds White Berry from fem seed. What I thought was interesting is the Gigabud and the LaBlanca look like twins next to each other. I'm kicking these over to 12/12 so looking forwards to seeing the new genetics in flowering.

Thanks Cali, Hope you have better success germinating than I did. I only got one out of five. I am thinking that from now on I'll stick to regular seeds and avoid fems.

how did u germ them? ima use distilled water and do the paper towel method but with tissue's..i have 100% germ rate with all the bagseeds i've tried (never grew them out just practice) but this is my 1st attempt with feminized seeds

Cali, I germ by soaking in PH corrected water for a day then cracking with the paper towel method. Then I plant into a non fertilized peat moss mix that has been sifted to remove all "sticks and rocks". Then this is where I seem to run into problems. I have lost many fem seeds for failure to stand up and open. In fact, I have an example of Pandora which I had to do "surgery" on. Normally I don't try to be a seed surgeon but that Pandora was going to die unless I got out magnifier and exacto knife to remove a stubborn membrane that prevents the cotlydon leaves from opening up. I can only imagine my neighbors hearing me yell if I had purchased Dr. Greenthumb's G13 seeds for $100 each. But this failure to stand and open has been with fem seeds from three different breeders now, pardon me more than that counting the freebies.

I am tempted to try Dr. Greenthumb's method some day with a freebie. He says to place the sprouter pointing DOWN into the mix ( root pointing UP!). I always make a little hole with a chopstick and then use squirt of water to slide the sprouter down into that with root downwards.

Just cut down those two clones from the 5/14 post. My results are getting better but still room for much improvement. Here is one of the clones with all the fans taken off, and that one alone filled up a large cookie sheet with fairly dense and frosty buds. Not bad considering I'm flowering with just 270 watts of LED's.

Still very happy with Gigabud. I have a good friend who's a real fan of this genetic. He works at a small shop where the owner actually does not care if he's stoned at work. So since he has been smoking Gigabud, his boss asked him if he had quit since Gigabud does not give him "stoner eyes".

Hahaha. Nice job, those look pretty nice. I must say though, it looks to me like you chopped a couple weeks early; I know it's suppose to be a 5-6 week strain but those buds would still have developed/fattened up quite a bit more judging by the amount of white pistils (hairs) on 'em. Still was probably some good smoke though, when I started out I had a bad problem with cutting everything a bit too early, even when I thought I was doing good... but I got a little better each time around. Now I find myself flowering everything about a week or 2 longer than what the breeder suggests (not always, of course, nothing is for certain in this field.)

Here is an update. I'm still running this gigabud girl and I've also refined my style with a number of changes. I have also tried out several other girs, but giga has been a favorite. Plus, she has such a strong root that she survived a disease incident that I had when a friend gave me a clone that had root rot. Some of the changes are: 1. I have added Litro glow T3 tubes a total of 4 for side light. I love the Litros and I have experienced better density and taste with them for certain. 2. I updated one half of my tent to a newer 180w LED unit from "Advanced LED's" I like what I see from the new Advanced and think I would purchase another one. 3. I settled on Dynagrow nutrients so that I can use tap water and reduce nute costs. I have no complaints about this "old school" nute and enjoy the savings compared to Advanced. 4. My roots were OK before, but now they are much stronger. The only two additives I use in addition to Dynagrow is Hygrozyme and SM-90. Those two were suggested by a medical guy and I am pleased with the improvement to root health and harvest yield.

Here are some photos of my most recent Gigabud harvest. Total wet weight for the two clones was 27.5 OZ trimmed. Nice strong smoke. All my friends are asking when it will be ready.
