Fungus Gnats!?!?

I have a hydro system with 12 pots hooked up. Started noticing yellow leaves. When I pulled the buckets up I noticed what looked like saw dust in the bottom of the pots. I looked it up and they appear to be fungus gnats. I tried using the AzaMax and it didnt seem to help. Then I tried the fly strips and mosquito dunks and they havent done much either. Any other ideas???

What does the Dutch Master Zone do? I looked it up and seen it is used for powdery mildew.

i used sticky traps and mosquito dunks to get rid of them. It takes a couple of weeks to totally get rid of them. The BTI kills the larva from the inside out, after they ingest it. so by killing the larva you break the life cycle. BTI will not work if you have H2O2 in your rez, BTI is organic. hope this helps

What is BTI? I put up the sticky traps and they have caught a bunch of gnats. How many dunks do you put in? I just put 1 dunk in my 55 gallon res. It didnt seem to fase them though.

BTI is the active ingredient in mosquito dunks. About 1\2 a dunk will take care of your rez. 1 puck will take care of a swimming pool. It will not kill them immediately, they have to eat it, then it kills them from the inside out. just keep sticky traps out and keep using the mosquito dunks and in about 2 weeks they will be totally gone. dont use hydrogen peroxide while using the dunks, it will kill the BTI. The mosquito dunks can break up into little bits, if it is causing an issue with your system (clogging drippers etc.) simply put the mosquito dunks in panty hose and place in rez, this will keep the bits from getting into your system but still allowing the BTI to get into your solution.

Thanks for the info. I did have H2O2 in the res when I put the dunk in the first time so maybe thats why it didnt work. Ill have to try again and let you know who it works out.

The biggest problem with fungus gnats is the larva, they eat organic matter (your roots!). If your plants are mature, good root structure, they can handle it better than young ones. The first time I had to deal with the little bastards was during the cloning process. Clones were 28 days old and still were not producing roots, I was like "whatthafuck". Got pissed and pulled a clone out of the cube, the stem/root area was covered in larva. They were eating my roots as fast as they would grow! So, if you got young plants you really dont want these bastards around.
Every since then I keep a dunk in my rez at all times , havent had a problem since!

zone will not work, i was using zone in my solution when i got infested. Dont get me wrong, Dutch Master Zone is good stuff, still use it, but thats not what its for

i got them once and drenched everything in neem oil and it appeared to take care of em...

i found they dont like fans. and they dont like acidic soil.6.0. i also spray everyday with soapy water and try to nock them out of the air if ic them. they dont like heat raise your heat. witha eletric heater to 80 it will dry out the air. and raise speed on your out take fan. to pull in more fresh air. i find this gets rid of them o and us the dunks. ket them soak for days def using.
