i have a question to ask. is it ok for a plant to be fed out of a bottle that used to contain a juice drink. I can still taste and smell the flavour of the drink very slightly. will this harm the plant?

I would run to the local gardening store and pick up a small watering can... Or, I use a standard 16oz water bottle with some holes punched in the cap to water my seedlings.

If you're watching you PH, which you should be, then you're probably going to see that the water, if left to sit in the bottle too long, is sucking up the juice contents and causing your PH to fluctuate. Just a guess here, as I've not been in this position...

I would just suggest getting yourself something other than a reused juice bottle.

i agree.

nikita - please refrain from advising people to grow male plants, apparently you're the only one here who isnt aware that male plants dont produce bud, the amount of thc they produce isnt even worth attempting to make hash out of. they are worthless to us except for breeding, why would you tell him to grow out his males and thus pollenate the rest of his crop? someone needs to smash you in the face with a CFL :-? lol jk, but seriously do you really grow out males then smoke them?

So, you're telling us that you're influencing the sex of these seeds by ?? soaking them in SuperThrive; germinating them in ST; feeding seedlings with ST...?? What's your method here?

My next question is how do you know that you're not just lucky. I for one have NEVER seen any substantial evidence stating that seeds do not have predetermined sex, which in effect would completely negate everything you've said above.

Sorry to come down on your comment, but you're tossing out "definite" advice that you cant prove.

i have a collection of hundreds of seeds from all over the fucking place, my mother just brought me some more from back home.the problem is i have a tiny little op going only big enough for maybe four healthy plants. at the time i had six fighting for light.out of that six i have one that is just as old and perty as the two males were and its sex is still undetermined if that one turns out to be female i will top it to make it produce nice clone cuttings and grow the clones just toss the other plants i was growing to the outdoors and wish them luck.im just hoping that out of the three healthy plants i have cause i dont believe the wierd one is making it that i have a damn female somewhere.

i am growing the males out but only to press thier flowers into a photo album. they did grow mighty fast and thier linieage could have been from something nice(dont know they were unlabeled) so i might use them for future breeding but why would you want to put someones balls in your pipe and smoke it?

I read it in one of Ed Rosenthal's books. I don't know if that's the reason I've gotten an above average number of females but it can't hurt.:blsmoke: I usually let them soak for a few hours in a cap full of ST, then I'll wet a paper towel with a cup of water that has had a few drops of ST added. When I plant them I water with a mix of 1/4 tps of ST to 1 gallon of water. After that I mix ST in with the ferts. I use adding just a few drops. I also use 1/4 tps when I transfer them. Out of 17 plants 12 have been female 4 males & 1 hermie, I cut the 2 branches that had balls on the hermie & luckily it hasn't grown anymore but I check it every day.

I don't believe in luck

Just be careful next time... Here's an exerp from Dutch Passions:

From literature and our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. The environmental factors that influence gender are:
  • a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females.
  • a higher potassium concentration will give more males.
  • a higher humidity will give more females.
  • a lower temperature will give more females.
  • more blue light will give more females.
  • Fewer hours of light will give more females.

yeap. i noticed for a while that nobody in here have this approach(about males). maybe only few ever tried. I for one don't throw out males, just separate from females, and i tell you, sometimes you can't tell the difference. i guess it depends on the strain and environment or something. I won't argue or support growing males for other purposes than replication, but if it happens to have one, all is not lost. so please, unless you have done it, and even so your experience may differ, don't BS my reply. thanks.

I always choose nitrogen rich soil and make sure i use cool blue tubes especially at the start when they are seedlings.
This in my opinion really does help:blsmoke:
