fuckin bud rot...

Yeah, hello gang. So I check my plants every morning and today I noticed on of the buds have bud rot. It was a very mild case, only one yellow leaf and the unmistakable white fluff on the the leaf. Inside the bud seemed okay, like it wasn't a brown mess, just looked damp in there.

I cut the bud out, raised the temps and I'm in the process of drying the cab with kitty litter sand (diatomaceous earth) covering the bottom of the cab etc etc... the RH in my apartment is in the low 30's so it should work out pretty good.

My mistake was watering too much combined with a crowded growth space and low temperatures. So, my question is this:

What do I do with the rest of the crop?

I can't see any rot anywhere else, and as I said I check the plants multiple times a day so I know the rot hasn't been growing for a long time. Also I can smell the bud rot, which I did not smell yesterday and that smell is very striking to me so it hasn't gone unnoticed or anything.

Over crowding of plants can be problem when it comes to bud rot. Any surface the buds might be rubbing up against, other plants, a wall, etc can be a place where bud rot will form. Try to keep enough space between plants, so light and air can can flow freely thought out the grow space.

It is a problem indeed, and next grow I'll be on top of that. But what about this harvest? is it safe to dry and cure as usual if the buds show no sign of rot?

Remove the bad and cure the good

You have not mentioned how much longer you have left to harvest. If you have a way to go you will struggle to get any that are not affected. If about to harvest, as anzohaze stated. If you can smell it though sounds bad.

As far as I am concerned it's fine to harvest the non rotted buds and you should do so asap. If they are really rotten cut off and toss. I had some buds with a little rot and it was a very small percentage of overall plant. This can also happen if you wait to long to harvest. The best thing to do is harvest everything , separate the good from the bad. None of the buds with rot where completely rotted. Only about a 1/4 of the bud. I cut away the rotted part kept separated from the good buds cured in open air could I not tell or smell the difference after a couple days.

Okay, thanks for the help guys. There is a lot of info about this around the web, but it all says different things, so I had to get a second opinion from you. As far as the smell that were lingering all through yesterday, I haven't noticed it at all today! The plants are about 4 weeks ideally from harvest, but as I'm going avway on vacation, I'll be cutting them in two weeks. So it's still a little early to chop. I'm gonna give it until tomorrow at least, and I'l probably let them finish a bit more if I don't get that smell coming again.. Thanks again guys, I'll post an update on the smell situation tomorrow.

Fuck bud rot

Fuck pulling them early. Might as well piss on them.

Go down fighting. Spray them everyday with H2O2 water (mix 1 tablespoon 35% H2O2 per gallon). Cancel your vacation or get a tender and harvest when they are ready. Who schedules a vacation during a grow?

Good news everyone. the smell has subsided and I can't see any more bud rot anywhere. The temps were raised and the RH lowered to around 32%. So I'll keep them going until departure.
Bugeye, the timing of a vacation depends on many factors such as flights and hotels, other peoples schedules and your own schedule. Sometimes there has to be a tight fit somewhere to make it work. How much would I have yielded if I didn't plant the grow at all? And I would rather go on vacation than plant this grow. do the math.

One more thing, I'm looking for more information on bud rot but every google search comes up with a million "how to deal with bud rot: 1. Prevention" etc... What I'd like to know is what happens with the site that has been attacked by bud rot, but the bud rot has been stopped by unfavorable conditions i.e low RH and high temps... Does the plant heal the affected sites and with time remove all traces of the infection? Or will the bud rot just stay dormant at the site until the right conditions reappear? Anyone got any info on that?

Cut all the rot out. Be aggressive.

Yeah, I'm on top of that. There hasn't been any signs of bud rot since the outbreak and I attribute it to raising the temps and lowering the RH. I'm checking the buds every day and I won't be surprised if there is another outbreak, but I'm leaning a little towards that this battle has been won. I'll be watering sparingly in the coming weeks, for sure.

I noticed a bud with an almost non-detectable amount of bud rot today. Cut it out and tossed it. For future reference.
