Everybody Starts somewhere...don't worry about it :-D you gotta ask, you gotta ask...simples

Yeah with space I mean the Closet/Cupboard..what ever you got available...see with a closet you got a door you can have shut or open..open is good but sometimes you might have to have it shut? (Visitors) also the Temps(sorry MY bad) Temperature of the Space(Closet) will change according to lots of different things>Door Open/Door Closed even the Temperature Outside will affect your Temps inside. Along with Temperatures you have to(well you don't BUT most DO) monitor Humidity of the Grow Space(Closet) again this changes>Temps Raise and Humidity Drops...I think that's right could be other way round(Stoned,Soz) You can pick up a Cheap LCD Temperature/Humidity sensor/monitor for maybe $5-10 more you pay better you get BUT even a cheap one is better than none..

Nutes(Again Soz) Nutrients with this you can go lots of different ways..Organic(I do) or Chemical...Cheap or VERY expensive...some peeps even use Tomato feed...I use BIOBIZZ I like the idea of Organics and Recycling my Soil/Compost mix + I am pleased so far with BIOBIZZ, and its not dead expensive.

Hope this is of some help and explains a little....

Peace

^ You must be really new Applepie..

When you look at CFL you don't look at the incandescent comparison...

Those bulbs are 42 watt bulbs, not 200 watt bulbs. They are "equivalent" to a 200 watt incandescent.
42 watt is 42 watt.
My Bad.... But what is the importance for the strength of wattage? Is it not the K's and Lumens that is needed? I understand if your doing a large grow area but in his case being of small stealth size, wouldn't it be enough? I am new at this also and havn't been very clear on the info I have researched. Thank you for your input.

Trust me sherylsue it can be done on a Budget and you can produce much better quality Bud then you will get on the street plus you will have the Pride and knowledge that this Smoke is MY Smoke...I Grew This :D I started with £30 and did it bit by bit...ended up with 4 Ladies and when chopped and dried 4oz of my OWN weed, not some damp or sprayed with God Knows what crap of the streets...

Stick with it, take cuttings(Clones) and do it over and over...ask Questions...make mistakes...improve ALL the time...

Peace

Think 30w(real) gives you about 2000 Lumens, need to have the CFL close to your Ladies though...Need about 5000 Lumens per Plant I think???

Hiya sherlsue85, Yeah I did mean settings...that's Cool you can use the Fan in the Closet and having 3 settings for speed gives you more control.

From what I've seen on the Fleabay(USA) site the BIGGER wattage CFL are DOLLAR!! So it might be better for you to run multiple lower Watt CFL? say maybe 6-8 23-42w(Real not equivalent) and hang em using Hooks and chains (not ones on the door..Lol) from that shelf in your closet..by attaching chains(don't have to be Thick or expensive) you can raise and lower each Bulb on its own(seen one guy daisy chain paper clips to make his chains) How tall are you Ladies? and how long do you plan on Vegging before you flip to 12/12? don't want them to tall(Mistake I always make) because they will fill out in first couple weeks of flowering. Nearly forgot you want both Veg and Flower bulbs if you can help it..though some peeps have done complete Grows with just the one type of bulb.

Peace

Hope all goes well...keep folks updated, any Questions just ask...loads of peeps will give you Help

:eyesmoke:
you said
you want both Veg and Flower bulbs

what is the difference?
i talked it over with the hubby we are getting 6 42 watt clf (real you said not equivalent)
would these lights be for only veg or for flower?

i want them to get slightly bigger
i was told i wouldnt get much from them so im hoping to let them get a little bigger before i put them in 12/12. when would you suggest i do?

these ladies are about 2 ft tall i believe.

another question you said
hang em using Hooks and chains (not ones on the door..Lol) from that shelf in your closet..by attaching chains(don't have to be Thick or expensive) you can raise and lower each Bulb on its own(seen one guy daisy chain paper clips to make his chains)

i was going to get a power strip for them and they have these things
light bulb in the socket with a wire and a plug
but i can only find light bulbs that plug into a outlet at lowes right now ill look more but could you give me a better description of what you meant about using the chains to hang them? cus the closet has no outlets and no light plugs either so i have to run a extension cord and power cord

hiya, will post a few more bits 2moz...I gotta chill for a bit...

but you can get 5600K/6400K?=Veg(First Stage) and 2700K=Flowering(Second Stage) or like some Growers you can you both or just 2700k etc...soz getting tired

wouldn't let em get too tall, but hey if you got time and space(only 2 ladies) then why not? maybe look into topping,FIM etc

with hooks and chains on cables is easier to raise a single one if you have lots...wanna keep em close...CFLS or you could build this....

It doesn't have to be all complicated. You can't run a large light in that closet anyway because it will cook the plants.

The cheapest and simplest way to get started is this.

Get two power strips. 12.00
Get 4 socket to plug adapters 4.00
Get 4 Y-Splitters 12.00
Get 8 cfl bulbs. 5500k are common and will work but you want the 65000k

Later you can replace the 65000k bulbs with 27000k to flower. You will need a timer from walmart at that time. 8.00

Simply screw the Y-splitter into the socket adapter and plug into the power strip. Continue with how ever many lights you can fit in there or afford.

Hang the power strip upside down over the plants. Later you can make a reflector from a turkey pan available at the dollar store. It's in the DIY here or lots of how to instructions on youtube.

hang upside down from holes on power strip

For nutrients, try to order a small bottle of Dyna Gro Grow from ebay. It should be 10.00 shipped. This is way better than miracle grow and you only use a half teaspoon per watering so a small bottle will last a long time. You don't even need a quart, the small one.

When you are going to flower, use the 27000k lights on the timer for 12 hours, NO light can reach the plants during the dark time so put a towel at the bottom of the door. Seal any leaks in the cracks of the door.

When flowering order a small bottle of Dyna Gro Bloom 10.00 shipped also

good luck

Another thing you can do is get a cheap vanity light, and a piece of power cord. (make sure it's of good gauge, not too skimpy, I used a computer cord) All you need to do is wire the cord to the vanity light, it's very easy, see youtube and type "vanity light power cord". Positive, negative ground, it's very simple.

Use Y splitters to get two lights per socket. Hang upside down over plants.

I got my vanity light at lowes for 9.98 here is kinda what you're looking for http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-3-Light-Flush-Mount-Chrome-Raceway-Bath-Bar-Light-EW553CH/202228732#

this idea seems really simple i love it. and looks like everything can fit in my budget.

when my hubby gets home can i message you about the things he bought to see if we need them or if they can be taken back, before he lost service in the store he said something about pesticide and fertilizer.. i dont even know.

also what would you suggest i should move them into? and when? right now they are in those tiny green plastic pots

Ok, I will be out for the night in a few minutes, watching the fights.

Don't need the pesticide.

Get generic 3 gallon plastic pots with holes already in them, if you have 5 gallon buckets laying around use them and drill a bunch of holes on the bottom. Don't buy any department store soil with extra crap in it (IE miracle grow), get straight up plain potting soil. I use the 3 dollar stuff from the discount store. The main thing is to get your lights going, the rest can wait a few days which will give you time to look around for the rest of the stuff. Really try to order the 10.00 Dyna Gro Grow off ebay.

It's the first time, you don't need humidifiers, dehumidifiers, PPM meters, RO filters etc. Just make it through to the first harvest. Next run get all fancy.

Basic generic pots, the bigger the better.
Basic organic (non-additive) soil.
Dyna Gro (simple, cheap effective)
Those CFL lights.
A fan (you have one)

The yield will not be maximized but it will give you buds and more importantly experience. Good luck and I'll check back tomorrow.

Go ahead and ask here. That way if I can be of help others might benefit too. If I don't know, then someone else will probably chime in, again, helping others learn also.

TO HELP MY LADIES GROW TALLER-
question:
my hubby was told that to make our plants grow taller to cut them in the Y (area indicated in picture by arrows labled HERE) where the larger leaf is dropping and cut that leaf off.
#1) is this a step that we need to do?
#2) when should we start doing it?
#3) how often?
#4) only the top leafs or any other?

DISCOLORING CONCER-
QUESTIONS:
1) should i be concerned about this discoloring (indicated by arrows) on these two ladies?
2) if so what should i do?
3) should i trim/prune?
4) if so best way to with minimal harm?
5) does this discoloring mean they are dying?
6) how do i stop this?
7) is it possible they are still turning into green?DISCOLORING1.jpgDISCOLORING3.jpgDISCOLORING4.jpgView attachment 2946455DSCF0621.jpg

Don't cut in the Y area. What was told to your husband was meant to mean "topping."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chMcJE8n8QU see how to do it with that link.

That will create more colas, not meant to grow taller. We want shorter plants, not taller. The mid and lower section gets less light when the plants are tall.

I personally would skip the topping on your first run. You can do it, but I'd only do it once or twice max.

Discoloring: That looks very much like a nitrogen deficiency, it's not going to kill the plant for now. You can solve it by getting that dyna gro grow from ebay.
I'm sure you guys are tempted to use Miracle Grow or some other local store stuff. I don't know anything about using that other than I almost killed my plants. Others here use it with success. Search miracle grow on this site for that.

Trimming, no, leave it alone other than cutting off the yellow leaves if you want. Best to let them fall on their own or only take them off if they easily can be pulled from the plant.

lol thats funny... yeah we got the lights i got it all set up i felt really handy doing it... however i always had a major doubt in my head that something was just going to kill these plants we had no clue what we where doing.

this is what the set up ended up looking like:

DSCF0641.jpgDSCF0655.jpg

then they stared to brown all over specially the bushier one on the right and that one the infestation on spider mites was so bad on that one that we where watching totally baked out of our minds them build there little tiny webs, good sport i tell ya...

i didnt get any pictures of them when i put my foot down to scrap the idea men i tell ya. na im playing it was a experience though. but the lights that we got where 6600k we couldnt find 6500k and we where not able to get anything for nutrient nor did the insecticed we had help with the mites and we didnt get the lady bugs... so at least we have the set up if we decided to do it again. his stupid brother once he found out that we killed those two tried giving us another two like really. i told my hubby he needed to do a little rescearch first before we venture down this road any further.
