For you AZ boys. What's your drying method?

Hey guys, I live in cali in a very dry area...I'm so glad I looked here to find this thread. Great info..so I'm going to dry In my grow room 10x12.. I have a vortex fan that is on at all times during my grow to get proper air exchange and vent out heat. The room stays at about 75 with the lights on..when I'm drying in this room do I want the vortex fan on at all? And what about a regular fan? Positioned where? also what are the benefits of hanging the whole plant?..thanks AZ

Try setting your vortex on a.timer to go off every half hour or how ever long you need to maintain good RH. Or you could leave it on all the time on the lowest level with a speed control. Circulating fans on low is good but do not have the directly blowing on the buds. Nice looking buds bro.

Thanks, the vortex fan has one speed only...FAST!..am I correct that the room should not get over 70% rh at anytime?

YOu can keep RH that high in veg but in flower you are risking attracting mildew/mold ... Once you get mold your bud is ruined no one will buy it / smoke it.. Its dangerous try and stay under 50% RH

Its right around there when I'm in flower...I'm taking about when I'm drying it, what should my hygrometer read? should I hang the hygrometer in the middle of the drying ”flowers” or just in the room off to the side?

As long as your hygrometer is anywhere near your buds it's fine.. For drying you should get it under the 50's... Some people in AZ are adding humidifiers to slow down the drying process but anything under 50% is fine... Why is your RH that high in AZ?? Do you live right next to a lake/pond? Even with a 30 gallon res filled with water I never get any higher that 55%. I also have 3 oscillating fans blowing and the AC.

You are drying in your grow room? Are there plants growing and lights on?
Don't dry your buds or cure them in light, it degrades the trichs very quickly.

No, not dying with lights on...I dry them in the dark. I grow from clones, after they dry I put them in jars in my closet and fire the room up again

Why don't you dry them.somewhere else so you can get the next grow going sooner. I try and make.my turn around zero to cut down on time in between harvests. Also you can get a speed controller that you plug your fan into.and then.plug into the wall. They run about 20-30$ . Also like beaverhunter said don't go above about 50-55. Anything higher and you get powdery mildew.

I have a perpetual grow. I have three in beginning flower, three in late flower (30 days older), three in veg, and three clones taken from the three put into flower. My plants wind up vegging at least 60 days if not a little more depending on the harvest dates. I like them to be at least 20 inches when they go to flower. Though most recommend 12 inches. I found that I get two plus oz instead of 1 plus oz per plant this way. I'm using t-5 for veg and 400w for flower. though i'm not using hps. i tried it with two grows...just didn't like it. i use ceramic mh bulb (4700k) for flower now. plants seem much happier.

Light penetration is key in this instance. A 400 W is only going to be good within a couple feet distance of the light source for optimal growth. Furthermore it is not going to penetrate as greatly as other types of lighting. That being said, you can yield a lot of good stuff off a 400 W if you keep your canopy thin, and close to the light bulb (I've seen a buddy do a half pound + in a scrog under a 400 W with 3 plants). If you are growing the plants to nearly 2 ft tall before flipping to 12/12 under a 400 w you are going to be sacrificing a lot of that in your vertical growth.

I personally run a perpetual harvest, and I envy those that get a chance to actually take a break, clean up / do maintenance on their room between each cycle, without plants and other things in the way. One other nice thing about drying in your grow room is that it is already more than likely in an ideal controllable environment (IE, low temps, 50 % ish humidity etc), that is odor controlled. Also a real plus if you don't want all your personal effects smelling like dank ;)

I run a perpetual system with two 400 w flower tents and a 600w flower tent. With the 400 hacker is right light penetration is the limiting factor so I scrog and remove all growth below the screen. Best to run this with one strain all the same size. I do three in 5 gallons and get 1.5-2.5 per plant depending upon strain. As far as cleaning the tents it takes me about an hour. For me any time lights are not running with plants under them is wasted time and resources. No breaks for me. I also have a separate veg area and a clone area. Both are always full. Gotta always keep things moving to fullfill my patients needs. If I dried in my flower tents that would be a total of almost five or six wasted weeks out of the year. That's almost a whole other harvest cycle. I would take the extra crop instead of the break. That's just me though I don't like to stop.

I have taken way too much break lately so i feel this. We just added in another 4000 watts of lights (12k total) so im gonna just start doing a true sea of green perpetual cycle and start flowering plants when they are smaller rather than doing 6 week veg times

Why not just add another veg area and keep you veg time long. Cutting into veg time cuts into yields and jnorder to stay under plant numbers, the more bigger plants the better.
