Here is a man claiming that like homosexuals he was born with a sexual preference he cannot control. Unlike homosexuals he is not saying that he deserves the right to have sex with his intended as we know the most important difference is the lack of consent between partners. There is not a moral equivalency between these two classes, gays and pedos.

But there might be a legal argument.

With Facebooks purchase of Virtual Reality companies and the possible future implementation of something like the holodeck on startrek, what would be appropriate there?

Since the rationale for making child porn illegal wouldn't apply to virtual reality, the abuse of a real child, would we have to allow VR simulations of children for sexual pleasure?

Should we accept pedophiles in society, as long as they aren't raping and harming children? Afterall, they were born this way.

But I can't deny that he has an argument. He is a citizen of the United States. And every other manifestation of sexual orientation has now been deemed to be fully legal and to be tolerated. So why not his as long as there isn't a living breathing child being harmed.

In a world where Marijuana is illegal despite the overwhelming evidence of it's harmlessness? Where it is still in the same classification as heroine?

I dont think he has much of a chance.

BTW, we dont allow 'normal' people to have pictures and videos of kids in sexually exploitative situations either. So, his status as a 'whatever' really isnt going to have any basis in this court case.

I take my point beyond his... my contribution to this is how does, or rather how would it apply to virtual reality. The reality is virtual reality might be a reality in the not too distant future.

Child porn is illegal becuase somwhere there was a child being abused, it is caught on film.

As technology advances and lifeel like simulations advance, maybe eventually to the point of the holodeck on startrek, what would be acceptable then?

A computer generated image requires no abuse of a child. It would be a victimless exercise. Why would pedophiles be the only sexual minority to not be allowed to act out their fantasies, in a world where all other sexual deviance is deemed normal? How could we stop it?

pedophelia is a sickness because it deals with underage partnering..homosexuality is between two consenting adults of the same sex.

This is some of the most logically flawed analysis of an opinion as I've ever seen.

Two things can have similar causes, or reasons for being since "cause" could have negative implications, and yet yield dramatically different results.

If sexual preferences are determined by something within the brain, and I don't know how one could think they were impacted by any other tissue or organ, then homosexuality and pedophilIa could very well have a similar reason for being.

I'm saying we should associate them with respect to how society treats those who exhibit this orientation, I'm associating them in a physiological causal way.

Similar to how two types of skin cancer might be caused from uv light, but one is highly malignant and the other is benign. The causes are similar but the way we react with them and decide how to treat the patient is different.

Homosexuality is so benign to practically say there is no 'patient.' While pedophilia is a terminal illness and those afflicted with it might as well be euthanized.

With respect to the holodeck, I explicitly limited my scenario to computer generated images and said something like the holodeck. Similar in usage if not in design, where people would go to explore a fantasy.

But I think you're wrong on that, because if I remember my star trek correctly a holocaust character could be based on a real life model, but they could also be a fabrication.
