god is an icon and nothing else

only seen as one to those that are 'awake' or 'standing outside the cave'

take away the i we might be getting nearer lol

God is nothing.. is that what you are suggesting?

I like that

God is nothing
God is space
God is stillness
God is emptiness

God is No Thing

these are all very common descriptions in Zen and Buddhist teachings

i have researched a bit of buddism, we have two selves, us and our ego. to watch our ego and observe it takes a great deal of practice. our ego is the one that shouts out to get attention, gets angry without justification, reacts without thinking. it is us but it is not us. does this make sense to anyone apart from me? hope so. i have gone through some soul searching of late and to observe yourself instead of being on auto pilot is like walking out of that cave. i can see the light.
i have always believed in god. to accept god into your life enables you to pratice zen without trying. when you put all your troubles, sin onto jesus the result is peace within and the continuing to practice "good karma" results in staying in this state of peace. to me these are both really closely aligned. either one is a guide to better living imo.
peace
PS: i dont really knowm, just my two cents worth haha

God is a Caribbean wind that sweeps across your face.
God is the awed breath of a man overlooking lush forests, cool waters, and windy mountains.
God is the breath of smoke that rekindles the light of ancient processes.

God is all.
God is none.
God is You.
God is Me.

I wonder what would happen if YOU took that place holder OUT?

Are you referring to the oneness of the universe in that we all come from star dust and will be returning there soon?

And how all living things are interrelated and we are all, each one of us, part of a greater whole?

And how word creates flesh through introducing the dichotomy of good/evil, living/dead, real/artificial and how pure and real understanding can never be described because the description destroys the understanding?

i can dig that - i'm just real curious to know where the star dust came from and what it consists of....

I want to know how we became one of a whole...

and i want to know how close we can come to full understanding...

so i guess what i'm saying is - i'm trying to remove (or at least move) that placeholder as often as i consciously can ...

God is the breathe exhaled into the cosmos by the Enlightened.
God is the wafting incense in a candle-lit temple.
God is the first machine to think and create opinion.
God is the lazy swaying of ancient trees.

echart tolle has some good books. i have listened to the tapes in the presence of a great mystery? think thats what it is called. and there is also a book called understanding the power of now, prelude to power of now . my old man wants me to read them. haha .i am happy with my faith restored in Jesus christ. i have now stopped trying to understand my self. i dont need to.
this is the best peace of mind i have found. hard to not sin, really hard but ever day is blessed upon the earth.

yeah, first time i listened i was suprised he had a sense of humour!!! thought it would be an old proffessor style but instead makes you think along with the audience.
quote "if you go home and somebody asks what (seminar)was it like and you say it was about this, that and the otherand you missed it. if you go home and say i have no idea what he was talking about you are closer than you think" had to laugh at that one.
Gk, why do you think that people in maintstream society cannot openly talk avout religion, spirituality, politics without looking at you with that look? i know people say the herb expands the mind but people also like getting really stoned too and dont care about the questions that should be getting asked every day? i think it is easier for them to float along wit everyone and not have to question everything they know as reality. just my two cents worth anyway.

the god myth is all of our hopes and fears condensed into an idea that is easily digested by the masses. somewhere along the line god became the anthropomorphized realization that there is soooo much we will never understand. as mankind has gained a better understanding of the world around him, he has strayed from the animistic roots of his first spirituality and the reverence he once felt for everything has turned into a general disdain. his deities have gained more and more human characteristics, demanding worship and sacrifice - that which we most desire from those around us. our gods began to demand housing and detailed rules of conduct. they warred with one another and faded away in defeat, just as we do.

as mankind's concepts of spirituality have evolved our need for multiple deities has faded away, consolidating our worship to a single god. soon we may find ourselves doing away with that one as well and, with no imaginary parent left to defy, we may even regain our reverence for all things.
