So to start off I started growing by accident. I threw some seeds I found in some bud into a pot with a house plant in it. To my surprise they started growing so I kept going with it. I found I really enjoy doing this so I figured I'd use these first plants as a chance to learn as much as I can before buying some real seeds.

So the problem is these brown burn looking spots and yellow specks on some of the leaves. The new leaves on one of the plants are curling up and and are dark at the tips. Also some of the new stems are purple and I'm wondering if these are deficiencies. The medium is moist but not soaked. I haven't watered my plants since Monday, it is now Friday. During that watering I used 2 cups of water mixed with 1 Tablespoon of Xtreme Gardening Azos for each plant.

I didn't have a fan in the grow box at first and I misted the plants with water but stopped when I noticed the brown and yellow spots.

I'm using a 60/40 mix of FoxFarm Ocean Forest and Growstone Soil Aerator.
My water pH is around 6.2/6.3
I haven't used any other nutrients besides that one watering with Xtreme Gardening Azos.

I did start them in MiracleGro and sat them in my window because I didn't know any better. Which might also be why they had been growing so slowly up until I made a growbox for them.

hey whats going on,

first id say that they do look a little bit overwatered and you should let the soil dry up a bit also dont do a schedule for watering, what i do an what other growers do is the "lift-method" pretty much when you water your plant pick up the pot an it should feel heavy after a couple of days lift up the pot again an it should be getting lighter once its really light you water it knowing the plants need water, now for the yellow spots it looks like it could be a potassium deficiency so it could just be lacking potassium heard you said you haven't giving it any nutes id give it a small dose an see if she improves. also i see you got a fan make sure you have clean fresh air getting in there an its just not the same stale air moving around this can cause issues too. good luck!

Captain Jacks dead bug is good for thrips also. Get the liquid to mix, since the powder doesn't rinse off very well.
Thrips love low Relative humidity, so get rid of them before flower.
You can also cover your soil with some quilted foil insulation, since they also hate direct light and go from the soil to the plant from low to high.
Look for black spots after shaking the plant a little over a sheet of white paper. Thrip poop.

White painted board would be better than aluminum foil on your walls since foil can cause hot spots on your plants.

Hey guys thank you for the responses!

@Rebs4220 I'm going to buy some nutrients to feed my plants. Is there one that contains all the nutrients my plants need? Also I've cut an opening near my fan to allow outside air in.

@Diabolical666 You were right, I do have thrips! This morning I put down a sheet of paper and shook my plant, lo and behold one of those little guys fell down! I'm also going to get a pH kit for my soil which has the stuff to raise my pH.

@OneEyedCat I tried looking for Captain Jacks Dead Bug but none of the hydroponic shops near me had it. I chose SNS 203 which is a natural concentrated pesticide. I mixed it with water and used a spray bottle to wash my plants with it. I might have to order some Captain Jacks offline or check Wal-Mart. I'm also going to check out some white paint so I can get rid of the foil. Will a flat white paint work?

@chuck estevez I am just using tap water. I used pool strips to test the water and it came out to about 6.2

Flat white is fine, just paint them and let them dry away from your girls.
The foil quilted insulation works to help stop thrips by reflecting light back up at them, and stopping them from traveling up the plant when they are little slug like larvae.
That and raise the humidity in veg if possible. Just be careful when you mist, the lights can burn your plants if you wet the tops of the leaves.
(I had the little buggers in my second grow, and the were a pain to get rid of, Neem oil, showers, Capt Jacks Dean Bug (look for Spinosad) misting and showers, but it was worth it to the smoker in the house. Not me though, I just grow!)

Just wanted to say my plants are recovering awesome after getting rid of the thrips, raising the pH of my water, and feeding them potassium. I've been turning up the soil every time the top layer dries to help with the over-watering. Thanks for the help boys!
