flushing

My plants are at 30% amber hairs at 7 weeks so I started flushing today for the recommended 2 week period which I beleive should get me to about 70% amber. I will flush every morning, they are in pots. Am I doing it right? Thanks OH

How do your buds smell? Unless they smell like fertilizer, 2 weeks is too long IMO. If you flushed for 1 week, I think you'd be very happy with the results.

I agree with HB. 30% amber is getting right there and unless you have a lot of nutes to flush, you won't need/have 2 weeks. I don't think you have 2 weeks. I would flush until about 50-60% amber and let it dry out a bit before harvesting.

Happy harvesting.

I would flush them hard. When you think the buds are ready then just take the plant...
But at least a good week flush is needed...

2 weeks - 2-3 times as much water as usual, so lots of runoff every 2-3 days works for me...(I actually tested this on my first grow - there IS a slight taste difference)

Flushing is vital, and when you look at the difference in yield between those who go 1 week vs 2, the 1 week flush will produce a heavier yield by a matter of grams, not ounces. BUT, you will find that the plant flushed @ 2 weeks will have a much better flavor as it will allow ample time for the plant to autumn off it's fan leaves and feed on it's stored nutes & sugars.

CHLOROPHYLL is the main chemical in fresh cannabis that creates harsh flavors, and if too concentrated, can create that unwanted "hay like" flavor & aroma. By allowing that extra time for your plant to feed on itself and yellow, you are greatly reducing the chloro levels and will enjoy your smoke much more!

If you ask me, I say sacrifice the few grams and go for two weeks, the quality & flavor will be well worth it!

*** Don't forget to run LOTS of water through your soil, and towards the end, gather some runoff and test it with your PPM/PH/EC meter. That is a great way of knowing when your soil is truely clear of anything containing nutrient value ***

Wouldn't you say that it could also be somewhat strain dependent?

I've had some indicas that are SO bushy, they look like they could go weeks flushing and STILL have lush green vegetation. Then I have had those tall, lanky sativas with fewer fan leaves that yellow off after a week and start begging to be pulled. I'd think the more quantity & weight of non-bud vegetation on your plant, the longer you could let it go, as opposed to a thinner plant with less. Just my thoughts?

For flushing what I do is start about two weeks before the plant finshes.
I normaly grow in 5 gallon smart pot so I use 9 gallons of revrse osmosis water.
I pour all 9 gallons on the soil at once.
I have a 2 gallon watering can so I dump it all on then refill and keep going...
After all 9 gallons are dumped on and the run off has stopped I give it 1 more gallon with a tablespoon of molasess in it.
I flush them like this every other day for two weeks the very last flush is just plain water no molasess.
An that two week marker is not set in stone.
If I think they could use a few more days or another week I let them go a little longer I just keep giving them heavy doses of r/o water...

I like flushing for 2 weeks. Week 1 I will flush my 5 gallon pots for a good 5-10 minutes with my hose that is hooked up to a GE Household Water Filtration unit meant just for watering the girls. At the end, I will pour a gallon of water with Final Phase flushing solution in it, and repeat this process up until week 2 of the flush, in which I go pure water only.

I read some people doing as you do, with water flushes and then replacing carbs in the soil after runoff stops. Does this method make a noticable difference in weight/potency/flavor?

10 days minimum bro and use 3 times the water for the amount of medium, In a hydro setup you actually want to use like a 1/4 stregnth nutrient solution to flush though

Is it true that u can take tap water and let it sit in a bucket for a while and the chlorine/chemicals will evaporate?

The chlorine can evaporate over time. A large ammount of any excess is actually supposed to be gone within 24-48 hours, however, if your girls are thirsty and you water or feed them in a solution containing high ammounts of chlorine, it won't take long to see the negative results. Even if it's only doing damage for 24-48 hours, that's 24-48 hours more damage than you want to do in the first place!

If you aren't doing anything to properly filter your water, I would say that bare minimum, you should make the effort to purchase a Brita or PUR water filter. Either the portable 32oz ones or the faucet attachments. It'll cost you $20-30 at Home Depot or Wal-Mart and take out 99% of about 30 major impurities, and help with that chlorine problem. I did notice that after the water was going through these filters my tap water went from a normal PH of 6.75 to a filtered level of 8.3, so you may have to add some PH down in the end after mixing your nutrient solution. You will notice the big difference in filtered water at the end of your grow and when you properly flush. A flush with heavily chlorinated water can give buds some FUNKY odors & aroma.

I've never tested to see if 100% of the chlorine is gone or not. My guess, would be no. Will the levels be lower? From what I've read, yes. But I hope you're not asking this because you actually want to DO this. Brita & PUR water filters are cheap. Even a simple filter like that can take a lot of that crap out of the water. You don't have to go all pro on your flushing methods if you don't want to. But trust me, a simple filter like that will do wonders vs straight tap.

Ok ill prob buy a sink adapter then cuz my fridge purifier is for drinking water so it comes out very slow

So is tap water ok to use up until the point of flushing or do u always use purified?
If you have the simple filters to purify it, there's no reason to slack & not use it ... 100% of the time, my friend! You WILL notice a big difference in flavor at the end if you do it right from start to finish, not just when you're close to pulling.

Treat your girls right! Put the wifebeater away! haha
