There are 2 types of fluros that have excellent response from plants: those with sunlight spectrum, good for vegging, and those with warm white spectrum, ideal for flowering. Cold white is not really useful.

What you see in this article is that plants absorb most types of light, especially red, blue and purple, but reflect yellow and green (This is why plants are green). Yet, the most energy absorbed/used by plants seems to be in the blue/pruple spectrum while growing and in the red spectrum during flowering.
Judging by these facts, I'd say that a purple light will be useful for growth, but will not be as efficient as a white bulb with purple and red. Hope this helped.
