I'd go with flouro tubes. They will provide much more lighting then CFL's will, also too you can place them against the wall for bank lighting. I used a total of 6 4ft double tube fixtures, 12 lights in total. Here's a pic to give you an idea of what you could do eith 2ft of space. I used 4x2ft. Your buds will never get as big as HPS lights, but the trich production kicks in earlier, and produces up to 30% more over HPS lights. I used a ratio of 7 5000K, 3 3000K, and 2 6500K for side lighting. At flowering the side lighting was switched to 1 5000k and 1 3000K. I used regular T8 tubes, just make sure the fixture is T8 compliant...most are but some are made for T12's, and the T8 bulbs will run hotter and burn out faster.

I agree with the HO tubes, make sure you get the orange ones for flowering, not the cool or off white ones. Use the white ones for vegging. Put as many as you can fit in there, spacing them about an inch apart

you should make your own thread, but a 12x12 you will need at least 2 1000 w hps systems minimum. The problem with this, is you will have to use seperate breakers for each ballast. If you vertical grew them as well, you could get 100 plants in there easy !. You would also need conversion bulbs to veg with. Ideally you would want 2 1000 w hps and two 4-600w mh, but thats a lot of energy

30 plants and flouro's isn't the way to go. Kush is right, you'll need at least 2 1000W ballasts. You need on average 75w per plant, or 10,000 lummens per sq/ft.

Using flouro's is reccomended for small closet grows, and in which case you'd want to use workshop lights instead of CFL's, they produce better and bigger buds, and cover a much larger area.

well i think thats total bs.
you should get if using the 1000 watt hps you shoud get dual arc light bulbs.
they are like 100+$ but they give you like 600 hps and 400 mh
or line the bottom sides of your grow room with t12 or t8 or if you have the money t5 ho. so that you can get greater penetration on the bottoms and just use one hps, also they sell all colors of the flouros so you can get blue red or multi. i think the ladder may be more energy wise...
idk this is what i plan on doing when i get the money and time...

Sorry it's 10,000 lummens per sq/m.

Having some flouro's for side and or under lighting is a great idea...in fact i've done it many times in past grows, as well as grown all flouro's for all stages.

Bottom line is...flouro's used in the right spectrum, will produce some really nice frosty buds...up to 30% more trics then HPS bulbs...but the quantity is smaller, and the more plants you have the more it becomes harder for light to penetrate the canopys's of the plants, even side lighting and underlighting won't be enough when you have 30+ plants...you need lights that have LOTS of lummen output. However using the dual spectrum lights have proven some really nice results...faster trich production, and still nice fat buds. The closer you can get to the suns natural colour...the better your buds will be ALWAYS!!! I found that while using flouro's a ratio of 7 5000K:3 3000K bulbs did the best job for getting as close to the suns natural colour as possible.

I have 2 ladies grown under CFLs only. I harvested one this week and the results are great!!! I used about 275 watts of daylight bulbs. Mostly the 23 or 26 watt for vegging. I now have {8} 42w @2700k and (2) 23w 6500k. It's just under 400watts, but my electric bill stayed unchanged and I am pleased with the results. Not that I would've minded havin' some HPS light in there, but they are NOT needed for a GOOD crop.

My space is approx. 2'x7'. You can check out my link and find that cfl's are fine for the regular hobby grower. Good luck and keep updated.:weed:
