I have a shitload of 400w shop lights. I sold all my hps's and got into outdoor but now i'm going to do one go round with 10 lights and 20 plants and see what happens. I have a real GDP strain that grows purple. What can i expect when flowering with the halides? Thanks in advance.

I have done it. They will grow and will produce. So you can expect a successful grow.
Just its not primo conditions.
You can get some nice MH grow bulbs with some red spectrum . They cost a bit more but its something to consider and will be a nice answer to your situation.

buy a "Super White" coated bulb and you will get a better light spectrum for flowering..... you CAN do it with normal bulbs but the buds are more leave than actual flower, the THC production is basicly the same they are jsut less dense.

YOu can buy a m59 400 w MH to 360 w HPS conversion bulb. They are not that expensive and they are HPS not the adjusted spectrum bulb.

Yup... I just got 2 HPS conversion and another MH bulb for 35 bucks. Can't beat that. I am growing with a 400watt warehouse light and am gonna finish with my new HPS. If they work out good I am going to buy 3 more lights ( I can get them for 25-40 bucks out here) and set up bigger OP. I am figuring I will air col them to. Should be pretty straight forward.

i would never use a halide for flower. they suck, u'd be better off using a T5, may be less quality but will produce more and less heat in the summer.

hey when you start growing, if you have the time imho you should start a journal.

i think this is something a lot of people want to know about for sure. high times magazine said you cant use MH for flowering and to just buy a hps ballast and light. personally i think you can as long as your bulbs are around 4200K or in that range of redness. probably could still use 6400K though if you have them.

if you use T5 flourescent that are 5000K they arent near as good as a 4200K 400w MH.

I have 20 and I've never paid more than $25. You can always find them for the right price if you watch C'list.
