Flowering Using only Metal Halide

For this summer’s grow I used metal halide for vegging and hps for flowering; whereas on all my previous grows I used hps for both vegging and flowering. My plants grew much faster and fuller using m/h during vegging.
What would be the disadvantage to flowering using m/h?
I also find it much easier to read the plants health with a white light.

HPS has the spectrum flowering plants crave (red/orange) as to where MH has a more appropiate vegetative spectrum (blue) though I'm sure it's possible, I bet MH for veg and HPS for flower has better results than using MH for both... IMO... :eyesmoke:

Thanks kmksrh21: I posted too hastily. I know about light spectrums and kevin temps.
I just want to know if someone’s done it and what the results were.

Lol that's cool too... I'm sure someone's tried it and if MH for veg and flower produced better results HPS would become obsolete...

using all the spectrum's would give you the best results. I've read that using mh and hps lights together produce the most cystals. mh vs hps is debatable but i think mh gives a few more crystals(not enough to matter)

I may try it on my fall / winter grow. I have 3 600 watt fixtures and a 90 watt LED. I’ll just use 2 600 m/h’s with the LED in the middle.
That may be cheating, but it’s enough for 6 plants.

yeah i've witnessed this, i grew with 2x400w HPS with each light of a different kind. one of them was whiter possibly has a dual spectrum, it's labled Son-T but not the same Son-T argo brand, i guess it's an imitation of the spectrum, and it gave me consistently bigger yield of buds and crystals. i think that using both spectrums is best

Ed Rosenthal swears by MH for flowering and claims he and all his growing amigos only use MH (as far as I am aware)....personally I use both with a 2:1 HPS:MH ratio.

Ed says in his newest book to use MH in the last couple weeks to take advantage of increased UV from MH and more THC production. I didn't see the part bout doing a whole grow in MH although I don't doubt it's there

i dont use MH for flowering, but i can say, as a witness, a 1000 watt horti blue will fucking own in a grow room.. pullin 4-5 oz in 3.5 months start to finish. ill stick to what i personally know works, 600 watt HPS ushio bulbs

i was reading the skunk magazine and the rev from that book says that he only usesmh in flower and swears by it ...

i am using a dual arc bulb that is like 60-40 or 75-25% hps to mh ...
has been doing great ...

plus on top of that, i have only been using an 400 watt hps for vegging with not bad results ...
id rather have an mh bulb for that though ...

Hello hello all, Just wondering if anybody has any new or updated info on the newer full spectrum bulbs or just flowering with Halides. I was thinking of getting the Hortilux Blue 600 Watt Metal Halide. I might be turning to the blue side for flowering until I can dedicate two lights for it. Even then I might rock 2 Halides. Any added info to this thread would be cool. Thanks y'all.

If you have aircooled hoods don't bother with any MH during flowering, the glass blocks UVB rays which is the main benefit flowering plants get from MH bulbs (they produce more trichomes to protect themselves from the UV light).

HPS during flowering = maximum yield
MH during flowering = maximum potency
HPS+MH during flowering = maximum yield + maximum potency (only need about 1MH:2HPS to get enough UVB)

I defiantly like the HPS + MH idea. Do you have past experience with this. I am looking to improve flavor, and get the UVB with the MH. HPS just seems to important not to at least include. What do you know about MH enhancing flavor?

You will not get uvb with mh... you need uvb lamps if you want uvb. The ultimate setup would be both mh/hps with uvb. Drop by the advanced section there is a thread about it.

What about using HPS to flower and finishing last two weeks under Metal Halide
as suggested to me on another thread by "Greenbuds"??

Anyone use this process?

Bless,
