where's the pot? these things have been around for 10 years now. i've seen pics of 2 with pot in them. that's it. i would think if this was soooo good, like 3 pounds off a 600 watter good , then EVERYONE would do this. why don't we see more of these grows?
I personally think a big part of the reason we don't see more FDD, is the fact that people are afraid to invest that kind of money without seeing the results first. If I had that money, I wouldn't think twice about it, the science behind it seems solid. I don't really know if 3lb off 600w is gonna be possible, but it seems like 2 should definitely be.

Also no offense oregon, but building this kind of system out of hula hoops really doesn't seem like it would be able to handle the stress of turning constantly, or the weight of the plants and wet medium once it was unside down.

Now in referance to the water dripping on the light. From what I've read the only complaint I've heard from people about this system is some dripping. But a simple solution to that is to lower the water level in your tray, so only like 1/4" of the cube enters the water, by the time its upside down, any dripping will be done, and the cube will have just enough water in it. Rockwool stays wet for a long time, so you don't need to dip the cube deep to water the plant effectivly.

everyone i know drops 1000's on their grow rooms. 1000's of dollars. i have NEVER seen anyone grow pot in one of these. other than the few pics on this thread.

if it worked like we are being led to believe, then we would see A LOT more of them. no argument.

i was skeptical but i was also at a place where what i was using wasnt cutting it for me and wanted/needed to try something different, now i am stoked. i can see people not wanting to tell others about these units for several reasons from worrying about plant numbers to wanting to maintain an edge. i dont believe the theory that if it was that much better then we all would be doing it cause there are many examples of waste in our society that are never addressed even though there are much better options.

you're trippin', no one where i am is worried about plant count. and when we find something that works we share it. wanting to maintain an edge? funny stuff. ....................... IMG_0498.jpg IMG_4331.jpg IMG_0490.jpg

.

Yea, it'll be funny to see it fail though, I'll post the pics either way.

I'm just not investing a lot of money in this, it's just an experiement for me and if there's a glimmer of hope with the plastic rings then I'll make steel rings.

I just want to at least mock it up first this way and try to get it to work at all before I invest a lot. If it's not loaded with heavy bud it won't be a problem. If it works at all then I'll be banging out a permanent one in a hearbeat....

Thanks for the tips on watering. Or any other tips you've got...

4 or however many it requires 36" or larger hula hoops (I think they have up to 48")

however many 3" pvc pipes or 3" pvc fencepost pieces you want as trays

Cut trays 3' long or whatever fits in your resevoir.

Screw and glue trays and hula hoops together so that the trays are on the inside of 4 hoops.

Whole assembly sits on two rotating guide bars that spin which are mounted in your plastic resevoir tray with rasied rubber parts on the bars to hold wheel in the proper place and spin it, geared to a bbq rotisery motor.

Dunks in resevoir tray once per 45 min.

Cost? Pretty darn cheap, but should do the trick.
i love this idea, even if it wont work.

a competition to work out the best way to do it would be great and do it with food so kids in school can get into it and then we can borrow from that to grow other things ;)

you can also buy a guitar for $100 on craigs list. and you can spend a million on one as well and it will never make sense to some people. and unless you have paying gigs it wont make sense to some so i dont really understand your comparison

i know what i'm getting when i throw down 2000 dollars for a guitar. i have no idea what i'm getting if i buy a volksgarden. it's "unproven".

right and that is my point. how are you going to really know unless you try it yourself. it 2k really that much to test out if it works or not? if 2 or 3 lbs is doable with a 600 watt lamp then what is it worth? i have heard that the wheels can do even better then that but i will wait till further results before opening up that can of worms

well if you really think about it... even if you don't get 2lbs and you end up only getting 1, you still made your money back with some weed left over. It looks like certain strains would do much better in here than others but I would like to see a run through before I gave it a shot just cause I don't have 2 grand sitting around. I just barely started my first normal grow room, lol.
