So im growing for the first time and i put together this little rubbermaid container. I still need to install an exahust fan on the side somewhere. The intake fan is just a computer fan on the lid with the lights. i germinated the seeds and they are in small planters until they come up. but anyway what do you think of my set up? what should i do to improve it? i just put the dirt in the bottom and was going to just plant the seedlings that came up. how many plants do you think I should put in there at the maximum cause i have like 15 seeds growin.

Looks fine for starting seeds, but it doesn't look tall enough to handle decent growth. How many total watts for the lights?

personally i would get another box and turn it upside down and attach it on top then u will have double the height then u could maybe grow sumink good, coz i think the size it is ur only gona be able to grow them to like 8"max in ther and heat is gona be a prob with all the lighting and such a small space.

Yeah, add another bin. You have enough light to grow 1-2 nice little plants(put them in separate pots) about 1.5ft each. Start flowering them at around 7 inches tall(they'll double in height, depending on strain). You'll be able to pull maybe an ounce each if all goes well. Watch your temperatures. 85+ degrees is cause for concern, ideal temp is 70-80.

So i added another bin on top and took out two lights for now. Two of the lights inside are attached to the side and the other two are hanging from the top. Tempature is staying steady between 70-80 but should i worry about humidity, it says its aboout 36% inside so is that good? I planted 5 to start out with, I figure there is a good chance some are male so i can take them out if they turn out male. but any other suggestions? when do you think that they will be ready for harvest? They came up about 5 days ago, and i just transplanted them into the bigger pots today. Also how long should I have the lights on? they have been sitting in a window sill until today so they are not used to 24 hr light, is 18 hrs going to be ok?

yes 18/6 is fine, well harest depends on how tall u wantthese plants to grow wats ur max height in ur box?? humidity,,hmmm i think the ideal humidity is like 40-60 but i mean u aint far off maybe try adding a bowl of water or sumink. dont put ur temp gauge directly under the light either can give false reading that way, check my journal if you get time (page 20 for latest bud pics)

the hight of the box is about 30in from the floor. the pots are about 5 1/2in tall so the plants will only be able to get about 17-18 in tall.

they are very tall how close have you the light or is it down to being on window sill you could do with giving them a little indirect fanning to strengthen up the steams :peace:

I had let them grow for a while in the windowsill so they had to reach towards the light but right now the light is about 5in from the top of them. as for the fannin,g I have an intake computer fan blowing in from the top and just a bigger fan as the exaust at the bottom. i can see that there is a slight breeze moving the plants just a little bit so i think ill be good there.

I really like your top light design. Could you maybe show the materials you needed to make that, or some instructions as I am looking to set up a similar design.

Crap, i didn't even think about how heat rises when i put it together. I cant just reverse the way the fans blow so ill have to make some modifications but right now im a little nervous about having that fan blowing directly on the plants, i dont want it to knock them over or anything so ill wait for a little bit longer to change that around. I did move the light a little closer, about 1 1/2 in from the tallest plant now.

As for the lighting, im not too sure what your asking but all i did was attach two bulbs on the sides of the top box about in the middle (I may have to move them higher later) and I have two other bulbs hanging down from the center of the lid with rope basically. I have an extention which is an old lamp base but it wasnt long enough which is why there is rope, so i can adjust the hight easier. I plan on adding two more lights but im not to sure how or where because space is extreamly limited, I was thinking just attaching them to the lid. Originally(in the first pics) i had all 6 lights coming off of one outlet and i was just going to raise and lower all of them but i couldn't get them close enough to the plants so i revamped it. Most of the stuff I used I already had, just from collecting pieces that I knew I could use(ive been planning for a while) I really only spent like $20 to get it all up and running.

hmmm... temp is fine... humidity is decent... add a wet towel or something if you want to increase it a bit... any air circulation in there? a small fun would be enough... pots don't have to be that big for them now but you're ok... if they were in smaller pots, you could pack them under less light and decrease temp... also, they are spindly and tall, I would insert them deeper into the soil and keep the light close but watch out for leaf burn... 18/6 is good as far as light goes... judging by the size of your plants, I would let them grow under 18/6 for atleast two more weeks, and then switch the light to 12/12 for 45-60 days, depending on the strain, 60 should be a good flowering time though but look up your strain just in case... is that foil in there? if it is, I would personally get rid of it and just paint the whole inside white... just my opinions, good luck!

So I did a couple more things to my grow box. I ended up just turning the fans around so the intake is on the bottom and exhaust on the top. This is also creating a good breeze through the plants. I also added two more lights on the top so hopefully that will be enough lighting.
I was wondering though about fertilizer or water additives, are they worth it and what should I look for?
