First time in a very long time! ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’

I haven’t given this a legitimate go in over a decade, so here’s a little 2x2 to shake off the rust and see if I can remember anything! So much has changed and it’s exciting to learn again.

It’s been a bit of a rough start. Had to transplant from the cup to the intermediate pot emergently, and a root was severed. You can see some of the stress it’s been through. Also, I fear I may have put the light too close to it too soon - some of the leaves look a bit winkled. Also seeing yellow in the tips, but I have yet to feed. Today is week 3 since sprout so I will top dress with the next watering, and plan to move into a 3 or 5 gallon smart pot in a couple of weeks.

Doesn’t look to bad. What soil, and what top dressing are you going to use?

It’s in Happy Frog, with EWC mixed in (5:1 roughly)

dressing with gaia greens 4-4-4

Looks more like classic underwatered soil to me more than light stress. Plants just don’t uptake nutrients well when fighting drought. What kinda of watering practices do you have. ( volume per day)??

after the sooner-than-expected transplant, I’ve only watered twice (9 days, 1.5 gal total) because the soil wasn’t really drying up. I had the humidifier in there around 60% but got concerned about the air being too humid for the plant to want to absorb water from the roots, so I’ve had the humidifier off for a few days. It’s my first time with HF (ran OF before, and then cocoa way back when) but I’ll be adding some perlite and other amendments in the final transplant

As a soil guy I can tell you every day watering in smaller volumes will help you out there.

like for plants that size 1-2 cups per day. Get the edges of the container. Keeping the soil moist but not wet.
A “dry out” Period is not great for soils like happy frog.

Glad to read this! I will definitely increase the frequency and lower the volume.
It’s awesome to not spend so much time messing around with water and liquid nutes. Definitely makes watering every day a lot more convenient.

This is why I worry about the light. It’s 2.5 feet away, but when I run it at full power, the leaves seem to turn away from it. These pictures are about 90 minutes apart. I turned the light to max after the first pic. Came back to water and looks like the second pic. Temp only got to 80°

After 7 hours since watering, I’m seeing some leaves twist away from the light. I might have a pH problem. I’ve used distilled water so I’ll get the pH of it lower with the next watering
