First time hash question

My friend had to cut two buds early due to the plant going hermie. He didn't want to kill it but it was too big for the isolation space, hence the 2 buds removed. This is his first grow and has never made hash except from a grinder. The trichs were about 50% cloudy and 2% amber when they were cut. He trimmed the buds and collected the leaves into a pollen box. He put the box in the freezer for an hour, then removed it and shook it around for 5 minutes. He let the box warm up for awhile to prevent condensation. He then scraped the trichs, but they were really sticky. His kief from the grinder is never like this. What made them so sticky? Are they too young? Do they need to dry out before collecting the kief? Neither of us can find anything.

Speaking of which, we can't find any mention of if you should let the cuttings dry for a bit or if you can collect them right away. Any info is much appreciated.

imo, when you cut a bud off the plant, its still alive and fresh. when you grind up bud in your keif box, bud is normally dried and cured, allowing the trichs to become a "powder" so to speak. a fresh bud will still be moist and wet. the trich will also be wet and not dry and will leave things sticky and gooey. so best bet is to dry and cure those buds you cut off.

wow. cant believe someone asked why the crytals/hash he got off a fresh bud, that was chopped off a living plant, and thrown into a freezer for an hour is wet and sticky....

now im no expert grower.. but it sounds like you didnt even cure and dry the buds!?! bad idea.. bad bad idea man.

Thanks Demon. Vac, my pal has the buds drying, we know that the bud needs to be dried and cured. I was asking about the excess leaf trim. We couldn't find anything about what to do with the trim once you cut it. Now I guess it's common sense that you let it dry as well. We read the debates between trimming before drying or after drying and thought it would be easier to trim beforehand. Like I said, we're noobs just trying to figure things out.

the trim you can do many things with. dry ice extraction, ice extraction, isopropyl alcohol (qwiso), butane extraction (bho), bubble bag extraction, make tinctures, butter, many many uses. check out the extracts section.

Thanks vac. We plan on doing dry ice extraction. Since we cut the trim before drying, do we just let the trim sit out until it dries?
