First Time Grower!! Apartment Closet DWC!

So what’s up guys I’m super new to the Rollitup community and to growing in DWC. I stripped my bed room closet bare and setup a DWC system, but it’s so brand new that it is still a work in progress!! The back story to my setup is that I started out with 4 buckets but decided that was too much for starting off, so I went with only 2 plants. Right now the slow is very slow but I have no idea why, I’m using the Lucas Formula 5/10 micro and bloom; plus rapid root at 5ml and foralious plus at 2ml per gallon. Right now only have 2 ½ gallons in each bucket. I would love for some closet dwc experts to help me out with my first grow especially when it comes to feeding and atmosphere control thanks for your interest in my first DWC grow!! Here’s so pictures but please remember it’s a work in progress…

Ok here's an update it's Feb 24 2013 and I just lst'ed both my dwc plants and they look OKas far as right now... please expert grower's let me know if I'm doing something wrong!!

Here's a warning to all dwc growers do not use too much of floralious plus because that shit makes your res. hella gunky!!

Ok so here my next update... I've put up my 1000w hps light and connected the exhaust to my other closet, were my 6" inline fan and air pump is. I'm scared of getting caught because of the noise factor (remember i live in an apartment complex!!) so i'm sound proofing as much as I can... check these fucking pics out and tell me what you think... or don't this journal is mainly for my benefit peace guys!!

I was just going to say before you made this last post, you need more light and you need it a lot closer, cfl and florescent bulbs put out very little usable light and it drops to 0 with in inches from the bulb so you need to keep them a lot closer, also i wouldn't be to worried about the noise from the centrifugal fan as long as you have it on bungies i would be much more concerned about those wall mounted oscillating fans making noise, in my last grow mine sounded like a helicopter flying over my house ever 10-15 seconds.

Yeah, I just figured that out because I've been growing these fucking plants for like a month now and that is all they've done, is the 1000w too much light right now? should I use it only part of the day? concerning the wall fans I plan on putting up soundboard around the whole room... hopefully that shuts them up. hey man thanks for stopping by and giving me advice bro... the mj community has always been shrouded with secrecy so I can see why these sites aren't booming with socialization. thanks for the input

The 1000 watter is a lot of light but it should be fine you just need to keep it very far away or you might fuck them up, start high and then lower them a few inches every day as long as you see don't see any bad noticeable effects, you probably wouldn't mind a bit of stretch anyways, if that's 4 weeks from seed that growth is probably not to bad, it takes about 2-3 weeks for them to get out of seedling stage and really start growing so i really don't think you are doing to bad as long as that's from seed, but yeah more light is always better. As far as the sound board goes I'm not sure how much that will help i believe the reason the noise was so strong from my wall fan was because it was mounted to the stud which reverberated threw out most of the frame work of the room it was in, it really wasn't to bad but i would really would not want to have that going on if i was in an apartment, i might suggest something like a buffer between the stud and the fan something like Styrofoam to dampen the vibrations.

I know how it is to have a grow journal that's mostly empty I've got pages of me more less just talking to myself lol, i don't know why i personally think my grow is pretty awesome lol, but it hasn't really gotten going yet so yeah there's not much to see, feel free to stop by and check things out if you would like the links are in my sig.

i run a 400watt hps from start to finish. i have buddies who use 1000watt hps from start to finish too.

what up everyone, so I've run into every fucking problem a noob grower could run into, micro toxicity, under feeding, root rot (which I just figured out a coupe of days ago) I've been wonder why my plants have been in a stale mate since the last month... This shit actually sucks to be honest. I like building my grow room more than monitoring the plants. It's a hobby so I hope I'll have fun soon... Well since I found the root rot I had the upgrade my closet cause my conditions weren't optimum and that's necessary if your growing in dwc. heres some pic.. if you have hella good idea on how to manage the root rot please comment, peace

Hey man.. I'm along for the ride.. I did DWC and made all kinds of mistakes.. as you said you need to attend to the plants, which I didn't do either..

For myself I found that organic soil works really well.. dry amendments and I just water and forget about it.. I do enjoy the "fun" of DWC though and plan on re-attempting again soon..

I'm along for the ride here to see what happens.

Lots of good info here re: root slime.

You can try H2O2 to kill it off.. but its not great for the plant or any of the good microbes you might have going in there..

I also used frozen ice bottles to keep my rez temperature down.. cyanobacteria (brown slime) like higher temps

Word bro, I have been using h2O2 For like the past few days just adding 3ml per day to my res and everything seems to be fine. But now I want to add the root ecel and leave the H2o2 for cleaning purposes. Ever since I change my apt. closet set up, my water temps haven't passed 70 and my room temps only hit 80 during the last hour of lights on, usually the room temps are at 75... I grow at night and the morning mostly so temp are kind of low during this time of year. At first the closet wasn't recieving enough air exchange even with my 6" inline fan (the one in the adjacent closet), so when I remade my closet I made sure to study each fan to see if it was playing a efficient enough role in my system. my fans were placed well but I didn't have enough air exhaustion and entry. I have to be secret so I can't really cover my bed room window because of apartment regs, plus I think it looks hella suspicious having a exhaust hose hooked up to it, plus I can't afford the noise factor of another inline fan (Fucking things are loud). I came up with my "Window wind tunnel" idea. I built a 25" Window Wind Tunnel out of sound board and PVC piping, this tunnel increased my outdoor air flow greatly in my closet... Temps dropped atleast 10 degrees because of it. I have no idea what I'm going to do about light control during bloom but I have time to think about it... I'm thinking of creating another thread just about my wind tunnel idea I'm very proud of it and believe its a one of a kind. here some pics

Alright my fellow pot heads here my update: I’ve stopped using H2o2 in my res because it conflicts with RE, so now that I’m using RE my roots have started to coming back and my babies are growing again. The growth is still very slow but not as near as slow as before, remember I’ve had these plants since Jan. 28, 2013… Dwc is hard but very rewarding you have to monitor EVERYTHING, so be on point! My cats have started attacking my plants does anyone know a remedy on how to stop them from chewing on the leaves which they do naturally. Alright enough talking, here’s some pics

Hey Guy, what's up... I literally died doing DWC because pythuim just couldn't be stopped. What I did was clone my best dying plant and waited until it was rooted then planted that into a 7 gallon coco pot. A friend of mines gave me 8 Alien OG plants and I planted those then weeded out the very weak ones. So now my journal is just a apartment closet grow without the specialized DWC part. With these new plants I want to veg them out until they are big enough to give me a lot of weight. So bare with me I'm a little more cautious when i comes to growing this stuff because its fucking hard ass hell to do!
