First time grow please advise

Hello all, this is my first time ever growing. I am using 400 watt mh light. One is 4 week old and two small ones are 3 weeks old, one is still in solo cup. They are in 5 gallon fabric pots. I transplanted from solo cup to 5 gal fabric pot. My grow tent area is 4x4x7. I am using fox farm ocean forest soil with no addition to it. I have not started giving any nutes yet. I have been watering it with filter water when the top inch of soil is dry. I determine when to water by putting my finger in soil to my first knuckle to see if its dry. Should I start adding nutes? My lights are about 18 inches away. My light schedule is 19/5. I have attached pic. Please tell me what you guys think about these plants. Am I doing anything wrong? Do they look healthy? Thank you all for taking your time to read this.

What nutes would you use? They mostly look pretty healthy. I think FoxFarms will feed 4-6 weeks, but I dunno, I have never personally used it. If you do feed it, start at like, 1/2 what you were planning to give them at this stage and see how they react. It’s probably getting about that time to start slowly feeding.

I am planning on using GH floraNova grow for veg stage and bloom for flowering stage. For start I am planning on giving flora nova grow 3 ml ina gallon of filtered water. It should range between 450-600ppm. Do I need to measure my PH for water before feeding? I havent been measuring it so far.

With synthetics, yes, you probably should. Test runoff, too. I roll Organic, so there’s a little variation between the two grow types. Not too much, but enough to be different “styles.”

Wait a moment. You’re in FoxFarms. You should stick to Organics. Like, you can use Synths in Organic soil, but it wouldn’t be very synergistic with itself.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying to not use the GH nutrients? What nutrients do you recommend? I was researching about foxfarm and I read lot of arguments whether FF is organic or not. What do you think.

Feed your plants low and slow so start them off lightly. Maybe about a quarter dose. See how they respond. Go from there. But make sure to water in between feedings unless you are feeding extremely light. The stuff you wanted use is fine just don't overdo it. It's easier for a plant to recover from being underfed then to try to recover from being overfed.

Makes sense. Thank you for the tip. I'll definitely will be feeding low dose.

I prefer Roots Organics. GH means General Hydroponics, which you either use in hydro or inert drain-to-waste soilless medium. FoxFarms Ocean Forest and the like are actually soil, I believe. You’re going to want organic fertilizers if you want that soil to work best. Stuff like Bat Guano and stuff instead of synthetic nutrients.

I'm not sure filtered water is all that great. @Olive Drab Green what do you think? Also is your tap pH way off? Why are you filtering?
I like your suggestion to stay organic with the FF. I'm working on going that way myself. So try Roots Organic. Does it have organic Ca or would he need an organic Ca additive too? There must be a way to do it with a little food grade gypsum topdress but I'm not sure the amount to use.
Nice plants with tight nodes. Nice kitty. He looks interested.

I thought filtered water is better since tap water has chlorine in it. Also when I add nutrients to tap water my ppm is already at 100 while filter water is around 10 or 20. My next grow I will use roots organic. I am not sure if FF has Ca but the GH floranova grow has Ca in it which I fed today.

I’ve noticed deficiencies when I used purified water. Like, it didn’t like the lack of calcium and stuff or something.

Yes, both the Roots Uprising Foundation and the Elemental contain Ca and Mg
