First Time Grow Lots of Questions!

@captbooyah Thanks man! I used to want to be an electrical engineer so wiring stuff up is always a blast for me.

@frmrboi Yes sir I think I understand. I bought 10 CFLs for my hood, 8 6500k and 2 2700k for my veg, ill switch the bulbs over for flowering.

What do you guys think about adding an exhaust fan to the hood? I was thinking about even adding 2 since I have the extra fans. Thoughts?

Well finished up the cab construction minus ventilation. Check her out!

You can see where I am going to install that PC fan into the hood and then vent it up out the top. And the center light socket is empty I need another Y-joint and then Ill throw another two 6500k bulbs in there.

Still need to mylar the floor and clean the shit out of the thing. Going to head out and get the hardware I need to attach my fans, some ducting for the ventilation, and then add a small oscillating fan and temp/humidity reader. Almost ready to move her into the house!

What do you guys think? I know its pretty small but its my first grow so trying to keep it simple.

yeah it is but cfls can't light a big space anyways. I've never been a fan of a cabinet grow boxes myself so I can't comment as to what your results will be but as long as your having fun and harvest something it will be worth it.

Can you make me one? LOL- that is a great cabinet!!! You should manufacture those and sell them! Way ingenious!

@capthbooyah thanks man! first one Ive ever built. I am hoping to figure out somewhere to build a bigger one once I get a grow under my belt, make this one a veg box. Really been enjoying it, cant wait to get some plants going!

Well with such a small area I am going to try and go straight to clones. My cousin has me covered with 6 different strains, just got to get this bad boy finished up and ill start getting the ball rolling on my plans. I am working on lighting exhaust right now, Ill post some pictures up in a bit.

So I added the hood ventilation today. Simply added the 12V adapter into the plug I wired in, and then wired in the fan. Check it out:

From there I attached some ducting that I am going to vent out the top:

Whatcha think?

Awesome... I wish I knew more about electrical engineering so I could do shit like that as easily. LOL Thats amazing! Do you know what strains your cousin has for you???

@Captbooyah Thanks for the input! Now do the fluorescent tubes have the same kinda of ratings? Will I be looking for a 6500K bulb just like the CFLs? I looked for a second the other day and saw tons of tubes that just said plant lights, thats where I got the idea of adding some tubes with my extra space.
Don't buy the T8 shop light plant lights from walmart they will waste your electricity and waste your time. All the claims on the box that they put out tons of lumens is crap you don't need lumens you need spectrum then lumens The shop lights don't produce a high lumen output in the spectrum the plant desires. You may be able to grow some seedlings with them but you're never gong to flower them with a T8 fluro. Go CFL They have some 300w equivalent ones at home depo or just get some 100w Equivalent ones at walfart.Peace!

@tomato thanks for the info. For right now im rockin 10 CFL bulbs so I am going to get it up and running and see how it goes. If I add any fluros it will be later for under lighting as I plan on SCROGing my plants. Well see as I get the plants rolling.

@zubey91 So why do you use a LED red spectrum? What are the benefits of it rather then another CFL bulb? I was considering throwing 2 more sockets into my hood for extra lighting like LED or something. I was reading that you can get bulbs that output more UVA and UVB spectrum and it causes the plans to up the THC to repel the radiation. Is this something your looking at with you LED?

@captbooyah Man the wiring is so simple for stuff like this I promise! If you ever want to try some new stuff im more then happy to lend my wiring and electronic experience, since im so new to growing thats about the only experience I do have!

Thanks! I appreciate the offer! I'm a stay at home mom, so I kinda had to use what I could get... keep it slightly uncomplicated and cheap... But I just got a grow tent and have no idea how to do the lighting in there... I think what you made would work really well. The tent is 32" x 32" x 63"... any ideas would be great!

Ok so lots of work since I last posted...

Here is the cab in my room all set up:
IMG_3242.jpgIMG_3241.jpgIMG_3239.jpgIMG_3240.jpgIMG_3248.jpg

As you can see I have the ducting out the top from the lights vent fan and two more out the sides form the PC fan exhaust. The intake is passive and just comes out the bottom.

I finished up the lighting, mylar taping all the edges and covering up the wiring. Here some pics of the lighting and inner cab:

I have my temps readin in right now at 84 degrees F so I am still a little high but with a fan inside the box I am hoping to address that problem to some extent. But now that I have my grow area all put together and in place the hard part comes.... GROWING!

So now I have a whole new series of questions. I was thinking about SCROGing my grow. With a base of 25"d x 30"w I have a base square footage of a little over 5 ft^2. With a box height of only 40" how many plants do you guys recommend to SCROG in my little grow box? I know that number of plants is going to be based on my strain, so I know this could be an issue. But any ball park would be appreciated.

And let me know of what you think about the box all finished up!

Well I have my fan inside my box and its bringing those temps down closer to what I like. Hanging out at around 83 right now. Going to track the temps and humidity over the next 24 hours as I am getting ready to get my clones. Well see how these temps do.

Ok so I finally got my clones. I have 2 OG Kush clones and 2 Pure Kush. I intend to scrog 2 of the clones in the current box. Heres a pic of the pure kush 7 days into soil:

Now the OG Kush clones had a few leaves on it that were withered when we planted it. All the new growth on top is looking nice and green but those leaves that were withered seem to be getting worse. Check it out:

Do you guys think I have a prob or those leaves just going to go bad and the rest will be fine? Any advice would be awesome!

Thanks
