hello people, i'm just about to start my first grow (:clap:i backpacked around australia for two years with a plant called Norman:leaf: which was given to me by someone leaving the country, this plant was mostly kept in a pot in the back of my landcruiser watered as and when i remembered, transplanted a few times and even left outside unprotected and survived a few frosts, norman always survived despite my best ,or worst efforts!:leaf:) this (and my constant smoking of MJ) has inspired me to do my first proper grow, i would have done it a long time ago but my accomodation has not been ideal, but the time is right.

I will be growing in a large cupboard (no garden) and i will be using LED lights which i have never seen used before, but for me they seem ideal because they produce alot less heat than sodium lighting and consume much less electricity.

Many growers i know of have been caught by the police because of their heat signiture (cops here (UK) love to use their thermal imaging cameras, both hand held and from their helicopters, attic growers are easily spotted!)

my other problem is knowing how much space is reqired per plant, inside the cupboard i will be using a "grow tent" (silver lined inside, black exterior, with built in vents, cable feeds ect)

but i still need to know how much space i will need, or rather how many plants i can fit in! any advice would be greatly appreciated, and i would also love to hear from anybody who has used or is using the LED lighting systems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

absoultley any help, ideas, comments or sugestions will be greatly appreciated, especially from anybody with experience of growing in the UK with our over zealous police (don't you just love 'em??)

thanks for taking the time

Hey man great to know ur gonna be growin soon!
iWell, LED lights are really not gud lights to use, yes they are cheaper mabe, and yes u save alot on an electricty but the results arent always very gud. people have grown with them but since this is ur first grow , id recommend using HPS , or MH and either air cooling them , or venting the air. yea its a little hard to change ur mind at first ,but the most popular lights are HPS since they produce great results with almost everyone who uses them, and they can be used throughout the whole crop! leds are very unpopular mainly since i gues they arent in the gud spectrum that plants thrive in(sorry if i got this info wrong!)

As for the friendly cops:) just dont tell ANYONE AT ALL that ur growing marijuana!!!! itll be hard but just DONT! use a carbon filter to filter out the smell so no neighbors gets any suspicious ideas! keep the room cooled and vented, by hookin up a gud exhaust system and a gud intake system, and again, make sure the exhaust is hooked up to a carbon filter! even a DIY carbon filter , like te ones u can find on this website!

Hope i helped!

Cheers :)

Hey man dont let the HPS butt licking addicts push you from being safe, lEDs are just as good as HPS lights watt for watt. Dont listen to the dudes that say 90w ufo = 400 watt hps. However a 400 watt led will keep up with a 400 watt hps with out the heat. As for power savings compared to hps, Leds save only 10 percent on ur bill becuase no ballast. Hopes this helps

Before you decide to do an LED grow. do some research on youtube. This changed my mind on using LED's on my first grow. But i may look into in the future when they have been around longer and have produced some serious grow's. It seems to be that the perception of LED lights are the business as they save you money and are less detectable by the authorities. But like i said. Do some research and you may find that it's not for you on your first grow.

All the best and Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would reccomend that you try using CFLs instead of LEDs. I tried LEDs and they just make the plant grow weird. Idk how to explain it but they do something crazy to the plant. CFLs barely use energy and although they do put off some heat, they get the job done very well. My plants under CFLS were amazing so I have no problem suggesting them to another new grower bongsmilie
