Hey guys please excuse my grammar and spelling as I'm posting this from my phone.
well this will be my first grow all of my equipment is on the way 5x5 grow tent 1 600w HPS exhaust fans filters ETC. I just have a few questions I just need a clear understanding of before I dive in.... My plan is to try to do a make shift sog from seedlings all the same strain (thc bomb) i have done alot of research on the sog method and I guess the rule of thumb is 1 plant per sq ft so being that I have a 5x5 that means 25 plants right? Also if not 25 plants what would you suggest to be ideal for the 600w hps and because im not using clones im trying to yeild a lb. Also time is an issue for me (only have about 3 months to do it) that's why I choose sog I plan on vegging them for a week and a half tops then switching to 12/12. I plan on using hempy buckets what do you guys suggest to be the best post size for what I'm trying to? Thanks any help would be appreciated we all have to start somewhere.

Thanks Ganja I know sog should be done with colnes but clones are just not an option for me at this time. I guess maybe my question should of been has anyone ever had any kind of success trying to do something like this??? Or would it be just completely undoable? It's just a time issue for me otherwise I would do a more conventional grow ( 6-8 plants vegged for 6-10 weeks and then 12/12) but I just don't have that type of time. Anyone have any suggestions given my circumstances???

This style of op is known as 'Sea of Green' or SOG. it would take at least six plants in order to get a perpetual harvest.

2 gallon buckets should be good, should be able to get them square shaped so they fit nice and snug, if time is that much of an issue do 12/12 from seed, plant a few extra because you'll probably end up w/ more hermes and males that way from what i've read, i've never done 12/12 from seed

Thanks Noah I've been looking into 12/12 from seed and that's probably what I'm gonna do. What was the most amount of plants you've ever jammed in a grow tent from seedlings and how did it go?

I never used a grow tent, used my closet, 15 plants plants and i let them go a little over a month from seed until i decided to flower, closet is like 2.5ft wide 4ft long, it got like a jungle. my worst grow ever and I'm stickin with 2-3 nice sized plants from now on.

Damn.... 15 plants in a 4x2.5... I'm getting a picture in my head of what that might look like, and it's not looking good lol. Well Im gonna try 25 plants 12/12 from seed in a 5x5 so we'll see how it goes (it's kind of ambitious, but I'll use it as a learning experience) and I will keep you posted on the grow if you are interested just let me know... Once again thanks for all your feedback it's highly appreciated.

Well good news you only have to get less then 21g per plant to reach ur pound. Bad news ur only going to be able to veg for three weeks from the time you pop ur seeds. Plan on flowering for 9 weeks and that's ur three months. Id try and find 12in square pots. One more thing, I hope u have a huge hood, cuz a 600w light for a 5'x5' isn't very big

Cool thanks Travis this is the light setup I'm using http://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLSETX600DHMAC6-600-Watt-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B005GYRZV2/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1353086948&sr=8-29&keywords=600w+ballast do you that will be adequate?

I see no way that you're going to be able to get plants from seeds to harvest in 12 weeks, no way no how. Those seeds will take 4 weeks just to get to the point of getting rolling with root development, and start training them. It takes a long time from seed. Why not grow from clone, teens even, so you can actually have a chance at this? I guess if you scrap the screen idea, and fill the tent with 3 gallon bags, you'll get a decent harvest, but not what you're looking for, under a single 600.

Thanks for that info. To answer your question on why I can't use clones... It is because of my geographic location lol... So what you're saying is even if i go 12/12 from seed and lst them i still won't have a chance? Also have you had any experience with 12/12 from seed and if you did how'd that work out for ya? Also what would you suggest i do... lets say I had about 15 weeks to do it???

Roll up a fattie and do some reading here. This will keep ya busy for a while.

12/12 from seed is great for limited space grows for sure, even setups that have larger number of small plants (however clones are ideal for both applications). I don't personally flower like that, but I do have a space in my grow that I keep small plants in, which is a 3x6 flood and drain table. I grow seedlings or clones and put them in, veg for a couple of weeks, and then flip......but......the point is that it takes like 3 weeks to get the seeds germinated, started, and ready to go under the big lights.

The concept of "straight to flower" is more of a general description as opposed to a literal defination. The seedlings need a few weeks to start THEN switch the lights. Some do go straight, but the plants are very small. Like I said, you'll get good bud that way, but not 1lb, unless you're really dialed in with co2 and lots of experience with a specific strain.

Its just a really tight schedule. You're counting on too much to happen too fast. Hell, most indicas that claim 7 or 8 weeks take more like 9 or 10 anyway, plus harvest, dry, and breakdown. If you had mothers, clones grown to good size, and a proven time system in place, I'd say cool! But......your expectations might be a bit lofty is all. Would you be happy with less than 1lb?

I think you're kind of short on the light too, you'll need another 600 for sure to get anywhere close.

I don't want to be a downer man, just a realist. A professional grower strives for 1 gram per watt of dried finished medicine. You're looking for 1lb, which is 448 grams, with a 600 watt light. Thats 448/600=.74gpw.

I just changed this, I screwed up the math before....

My last batch in my big room was .86 of of full buds, not including popcorn. This is a sealed room, 24 pots in an ebb-n-grow, under 3 1000 watt switchables, with co2 on computer. I vegged them to 18", and they were topped for 4 colas. They took 3 weeks to be ready for the system, 4 weeks veg, 9 weeks flower, 1 week dry, 4 weeks cure in jars.

Less than a pound will have to work for this first grow given my time constraints. I'll have more time to get it right on my next grow. What yield per plant do u usually see off of those small ones u keep on the 3x6 flood table?
