Hi all could just do with a little advice and just needs a little help just to clarifie a few bits. My cakes will be ready in a few day to put into fruit. They are about 1lt cakes/slabs and I have 4 of them and I will be putting them in one fruiting chamber all together. The cakes are in a takeaway style tubs what is the best way to fruit them? I've seen people just take the lids off and fruit still in the tub or would u be better to take them out put the cake on the lid and place on a bed of damp perlite or just put stright on a bed of damp? Also do u have to dunk the cake for the 1St fruit or just ever time after.

What kind of tubs are you talking about? where did you get the idea for this from? IMHO you should have followed a TEK instead of just doing whatever, I'm atleast assuming you didn't follow a tek because I have never heard of using tubs, unless your growing trays which it does not sound like you are, sounds more like you have a plastic container? Are they PF style? You should include some pictures that would REALLY help! good luck

I have uploaded a few pics. It's a mix of vermiculite and brown rice flour instead of putting it in a jar I've put them in tubs and thats only because I had them lying around the only thing I had to pay for was the actual spores.

That's a good guide thanks a lot dude.
Yeah. It works. When/if you use that sgfc. Reply to this thread if you have any questions. But it does work. The key to it is having semi decent air flow in the area that its in. Works alot better. I grew em in my closet with a little heater fan set on low.

Yes it's a very good thread and I will be using this method as it's my 1St grow I will update with pictures when I sort out the fruiting chamber tomorrow just need to get some more perlite as I've only got about half of what I need. But I have got one more question if anyone could answer it. Once u take the cake out to fruit for the 1St time do u dunk and roll in vermiculite then get the 1St fruits off or do ur 1St fruit then dunk and roll? Also how long do u dunk for. I don't get why u dunk to be honest as while in fruit u can't get any water on them but as it can mess them up. Any advice different advice welcome.... Thanks

You dunk in order to "dial it in" in a sense. Essentially thw sub will absorb as much water as possible to grow as manu fruits per flush as possible. You roll in verm in order to retain moisture and humidity. And add a little layer of protection. You do it as soon as you take em out the jar. Or just boil/sterize some water. Let it cool. Then fill and close the jars. Then roll after the 12-24 hour soak. But it may be a little difficult to remove the bloated cakes from the jars. Try it both ways.

Sweet. I'll be checking in and looking at your grow for ideas for mine! Nice pics. Now I just need to find a page that explains all the jargon so I understand better. Like fruiting, I'm assuming that's then same thing as putting to flower. I'll figure it out like a 12 step program keep coming back it works if you work it lol

Ok sweet that explains a lot thankyou. I'm just stalling a little at the moment on putting them in. I'm just working out my temp and humidity at the moment making sure I've give my shrooms the best chance to grow. I've done a row of 2 holes in the tub and some holes in the lid. I've got 2 low 15w tube lights cfls and a tube heater from growing cannabis to give a little heat now just need to play around to get the right heat and humidity. I'll keep you all posted. Also a few pic of the box.

Sooooo. No standard sgfc?
No Im worried that if I did a full shotgun box and the humid/temp were wrong I would have to go out and buy a new box and start again instead of just adding a few holes. I run the set up for a bit like That and the humidity was OK and terms were stable so I'm on the right track.

I have just put my cakes into dunk I know it sound silly but I was a bit shocked when they floated and had weigh it down with the tubs I used to collonsied in.

I used perlite when making the cakes a thin layer on top and bottom just to make a little cushion on the top and bottom of the cakes. Now I have taken them out for the tubs the perlite is somewhat stuck to the cakes and I'm unsure if to take what excess perlite come off and leave the rest or take off every bit I can. Next time I will use a layer of vermiculite instead of perlite but what should I do just see what happens with the little perlite that will on it once dunked or remove every last bit?

Ok. Perlite hadna tendency to contaminate when used directly with colonized/ing substrate. Just trying wipe it off could induce contamination. The choice is yours. A majority of your setup is unconventional. Does mean it wont produce. You just should fix some stuff on your next run.
Good luck though.

I thought I read a post using perlite but I must have miss read it i don't know how coz every other post they use vermiculite so I dunno I must have had a brain fart lol. Yes a bit unconventional the set up and twist on what ever one else has done but will see if it works, I have had good success when putting a different twist on grow methods for cannabis (mushrooms my new hobby) very good results but I it's harder to grow mushrooms than cannabis I know that already. I will post some pics off the full setup later today

Here is a few pics of my set up, not happy with it at all tbh altho the temp is a steady 26/28degree centigrade and 95%humidity. I was going to chuck the cakes away as covered in perlite and the chances of the working are slim to non I think but it's set up so fuck it. See how it goes

Might as well go with it for now. While that one is going. Go get a lb of popcorn and do that tek with a couple tbl spoons of vermiculite in each jar. MAKE A STANDARD SGFC. And get some black plastic pans. You can use ones like you find in microwave tv dinners. When it comes to shrooms. The best routes to go atleast in the beginning. Are the tried and tested routes. I mean why waiste everyone's time asking for advice. From people who actually have several seasons of experience growing. If youre just gonna do some silly shit man. Come on. Really man.

Ye Gunna tray again use vermiculite instead of using a layer of perlite. And a full shotgun box. At the moment I have got them in the bottom of the wardrobe. Once the weather pics up they will be going in the loft in a old grow tent but atm it's to cold, I'm in England dunno where you guys are from?

Quick recap on the ones that are in, they still look healthy and humidity is a steady 95/100% humidity bit not over wet and depending on the time of day and temp wise it's about 21/25 degrees centergrad now so a little lower now just need to see if it starts to fruit.... Let's hope so but not confident at all, altho they look nice and healthy.
