This could not happen at a worse time for the legalization campaign. How long before the inevitable right wing campaign and public backlash?

James Holmes took Vicodin 2-and-a-half hours before yesterday's shooting rampage ... this according to a new report.

According to KMGH TV in Denver, Holmes took 100 mg of Vicodin late Thursday night.

Meanwhile a man who lived across the street from Holmes told the NY Post he used to "see him smoking weed behind the apartment." He told the paper, "Nobody ever really talked to him. He was alone a lot."

Holmes remains in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 AM on Monday.

I say it looks kind of bad for doctors that give mentally unstable people vicodin...

It doesn't even mention weed, it mentions some guy who said he saw him smoking sometimes.

If anything this is reenforcing the idea that prescription drugs are clearly more harmful than weed and they need to leave weed alone and crackdown on painkillers, etc.

I think you need to reread it -- the guy says he saw him smoking WEED in that article. All that matters is the public perception -- doesn't matter if he was at the time of the shooting to people who are on the fence about legalization. Two extremely visible stories of crazy people in the news both linked to weed in any way = fodder for conservatives to say it shouldn't be legalized.

A hundred milligrams is an absolute buttload of Vicodin. That includes either 6.5 or ten grams of acetaminophen ... possibly enough to toast the perp's liver. cn
