hey guys,

Just trying to gain some general knowledge about nutes, what kind I should be using and why, when to change feed schedule and why etc. my boyfriend has grown for a little while now but these are my first batch on my own, we are both interested to see what people have to say.

Will be doing a scrog with 2 kind led XL 1000 I will be have 5 dark angel and my boyfriend will have 5 crown royal but still open to thoughts and suggestions about growing medium (always used potting soil previously)

I recommend the go box by gh, for first time growers. Going organic will make it hard to burn your plant. I ran it my first grow and loved it. Just go by the chart. I even exceeded reccomended nute levels by midbflower or so.

so im the boyfriend in this situation to avoid confusion haha. we were looking more for an in depth feeding schedule and if there is a better growing medium than potting soil we should be using, soil has been working fine but I would like to try other mediums.I would like to switch to hydro eventually but I would rather focus on mastering growing in soil before I move on and spend the money. I have a good bit of experience with growing (I think) but am by no means an expert hence why we are posting in the newbie forums. but what we were really looking to get out of this was an overall knowledge of nutrients before I try switching to hydro where it is less forgiving. so the plan is to do this one by the book and then make the switch.

You may want to look in Fox Farms, I personally don't use their products but, it seems that a lot of people do with great results.

I use sunshine mix #4, used it with the GO box too.
Their are other bottled organic nute other than the go box, check around, but I would go organic for at least the first part of my grow. The FFOF soil is supposed to be nice from what hear som say "hot" and others say they throw their seedling right in it no problem. But if u use that medium you DO NOT have to use nutes for at least 3 weeks probably just start looking for fading in your larger fan leaves, and then hit it with what ever u have chosen to go with. There are so many nute lines out there. Check around.
oh yeah that FFOF is organic from what i understand so it would be a good choice IMO, then by the time you start your bottled stuff your plants will be nice and hearty hopefully, then they are more resistant to mistakes by us growers. Bottled Organic nutes are pretty dummy proof IMO, don't know how people burn stuff with it, if they are using it at recommended levels, at least with that GO box that was my experience. Hell the strains I had going took it with no signs of burn at all. and i pushed it HARD at the end like fertilizing every watering.
good luck green217

If u plan on going hydro just buy some nutes that can go in both, that's what i did after that first grow, I went with the DUO line by GH, it balances your PH automatically and its a 2 part. A and B. I use some CalMag supplement ( usage depends on water supply), bloom booster and thats about it. I throw som Flouracious plus in between watering a lot. And thats about it, and from what i understand it works well in hydro applications too. I to want to at least try hydro, but have yet to pull the trigger. Hard for me to justify it when I am so happy with what I get in soil. (sunshine mix, technically soilless).

Imo mixing your own soil is what's best, you know exactly what's going in it....those cartoon bottles will eat your wallet, literally

I havnt had no problems using ffof along with ff nutes everyone's different and you do not have to add nutes to ffof soil for at least 3 weeks I usually wait 4 that's my thoughts on the matter ......there's lots of good ways to go though Good luck

What would you keep you PH balance at? Also how many PPM are you using? And during why stages of grown are you changing them. Just trying to figure out what the best route to keep my plants thriving

EC is the accepted standard used to test solutions. I found it much easier to use to determine the EXACT PPM you are using. And the testing devices running EC are easier to calibrate IMO. Bluelab Commercial Truncheon is the only instrument you need.

i thpought ec was used to let u know when to feed your plants (i.e wanting to keep and ec of 1.1 ) ppm measure the parts per million of what u are feeding them (starting at around 300 gradually feeding more thru out the life of the plant) atleast thats how it works for Fox farms feedings.. but im a noob i may have this wrong , wouldnt be the first time.... a good soil to use is Fertilome Ultimate ....ive heard ocean forrest and happy frog is good to, imo they cost to much tho and have to order them and wait for it to arrive...

like I said my nutes do it by theirself as far as pH goes, it stays around 6.5 maybe a little under. I use a PPM meter, I only use it late in flour when I'm really trying to push them. My tap water runs at about 150 ppm and late in flower I get around 1100 ppm total. I stay organic till the 3rd week in veg then start dropping in the salt based nutes, in an attempt to avoid salt buildup, it has worked so far for me.
