Ok this is my first grow, Im using soil (top soil) , and 2 75watt blubs, I have 1 plant growing right now, i plan on expanding this setup in about 2 weeks. But i can make any changes u guys think is necessary right now, as long as their cheap. The lights are right where i take the picture, i have a 18/4 light schedule w/a timer. o yes this lil girl(hopefully) started about 3days ago. Well for some reason it wont upload the pics right now, Ill try again in a few hours.-Americano

Hi Trent

Are they incadescent light bulbs (regular house bulbs)?

You will at least need fluorescent lights... Incandescents will do nothing except produce heat!

If your plant does not get adequate light in the first 3-14 days of growth, it will "stretch"... stretching is a major downer!!!

ok today i replaced the larger metal light w/a 100watt cfl, so that gives me 2 cfls(one 65? and one 100watt). Do you think this will b enough?

no to hydro for your first time, you want to keep it simple and cheap...... take the $150 you were gonna spend on that and get a 400 watt metal halide kit

Your money is better spent on the light but I wouldn't stay away from hydro if it's your first grow. It's pretty simple stuff.

OK well I have another couple of pictures although, there not very clear. The plant is exploding with growth since i switched the lights. although there is black, almost looking burnt, around the edges of the smaller leaves...is this a burn or something else u think? I know its hard/impossible to tell in the photos, but its the best i can do, I have the lights about 1inch from the plant. thanks

another thing i was just wondering, I know how to use moonshine ingredients to make carbon dioxide, also i kno how to trap and funnel at CO2 to the plant, but where would i funnel it, towards the roots, or towards the leaves? thanks

Well as you can see in the pictures I have a total of 3 100CFLs and 1 60CFL, giving me around 6000 lumes? yea the pictures are still shitty but hopefully it will focus better as the plant grows, there is about 8 or so leaves now and the burnt areas are clearing up since i moved the lights back, does anyone know if this is too much light? thanks for looking

If its 6000 lumens it may not be enough, any you may be better off getting a 400w hps or something. I have heard of people using spot lights to grow and they worked well, but I dunno how well... I don't know if I'm getting my numbers right, but I think a 400w hps is 30,000 lumens. Srry if thats wrong might wanna look it up, but I do know 6000 is on the low side. I don't know how much power those light will draw either, might not be too efficient.

well its really simple, u take some corn meal about 3lb, sugar about 3lb, yeast 1 7gram packet(from walmart 3for 99cents) 3gallons of water. add all the ingredients together EXCEPT the yeast, heat them up to a low boil, then let it cool, AFTER its room temp add the yeast, then put it close to your grow room, fashion a cover over the bucket your using, run a hose too the plant, i dunno where on the plant to put it. but it will work for about 7days, its really not very hard to do, and u can distille the alcohol after, although i dont suggest this unless you know what your doing, bc u can accidentally get poison in it, also it dosent taste very good seeing how this is the shitty recipe for making alcohol...but it does produce a steady supply of CO2. bc the yeast eats the sugar and cornmeal and the byproduct is alcohol and carbon dioxide. you can tell when the yeast has died when you dont hear it bubbling anymore.

o yea, lol i dont really kno if its worth it 2 add CO2 to plants but i would think it is, bc they inhale that, but from what ive been reading it dosent do anything while the lights arent on?? I dunno hopefully someone can give use more input, on the effects of c02
