First "Name Brand" seeds - Initial Impressions

Got my first legit name brand seeds, however, I am questioning the quality of the seeds... here's what I got;

5 pack of Chemdog (GHS) fems... 1 seed is a tiger striped keeper. The other 4 are just a solid grey/brown and questionable IMO.

15 pack of G13-Widow (Mr. Nice) regs.... I got 24 seeds in this tube! However only 7 are what I would call keepers, the rest are solid grey/brown to light grey, a couple even green, and 1 is half green half white! also got a bit of leaf in the tube, not the thin calyx seed paper type stuff, but actual thick, wrinkled leaf lol!:leaf:

2 THSeeds Heavy Duty Fruity regs as freebies.... both keepers, 1 big 1 medium

2 THSeeds Darkstar regs as freebies.... same as above, 1 large 1 medium, both tiger striped

2 DNA Hasplant Haze regs as freebies... both medium sized, 1 tiger striped 1 with a couple flecks. keepers

2 Dinafem Blue Widow fems as freebies.... both these seeds are split at their seams. I can see the tap root / cotyledons inside. GARBAGE! These seemed to be 'extra' freebies on top of the regular UFO freebies, so, meh... but still they are still garbage and not worth even having/sending. They look good in your shopping cart though and I suppose that is their only purpose.:wall:

I am used to using giant, extremely tiger striped mexi-sat bagseeds. I undertand Indica seeds are generally smaller, but for the price I'd expect to be getting nothing but fully mature, tiger striped keepers? With the bagseed, I had way more than I needed and generally threw out all (80%+) but the biggest, best looking ones. I would have thought that's what the breeders would do to, selling only the top quality ones, but I am getting even premies!? WTF, is this the norm for seed quality you get from seedbanks? or maybe the breeders do seperate the top 20%, for themselves, and the rest go to the seedbanks instead of the trash/toilet?

Seeds come in all colors and with or without stripes, has zero to do with genetics inside. but white are immature, leafso what!

Being tiger striped and being viable are not necessarily the same thing.

Some varieties flat out don't produce tiger striped seeds or very large seeds.

As far as your freebies being toast, I wouldn't stress it personally.

Real breeders would only throw out unviable seeds. It doesn't sound like the seeds you're complaining about are gonna be unviable. When making selections seed size is probably the last thing on a breeders mind. There are African sativas that produce seeds which are small and look immature, yet they are fully mature.

Thanks for your opinions.

This is my first seed order as I've just made it to a med state and got my card, so I am/was kinda excited to finally be getting some AAA super beans and then let down by their appearance. These are from the 'tude. The GHS and Mr. Nice seeds are in original breeders packs, so it can't be Attitude's fault, and the freebies look pretty good, with the exception of the DNA Blue Widow's being split open, but yeah I'm not going to sweat sending them back for a replacement or anything.

I guess I was expecting 100% of the breeders seeds to look like this.
cause that's pretty much what my bagseed collection looked like.

These look more an assortment like this. I'll have to try to get some pics, but like badmf said, it's the genetics inside that counts.... as long as they sprout!

I have some Ghost Train Haze #1 seeds inbound from The Seed Depot that were ordered at the same time as this 'tude order, so the 'tude does win as far as the quickness. It'll be interesting to see what these Rare Dankness beans look like. If I like the looks of them, I may go back to TSD for RD's "The Ox" once it's back in stock. If not, I may try Sannie's Herijuana, once it's back in stock. Or it may just depend which is back in stock first!

Here's what the split DNA Blue Widows look like. Haven't even opened the package and I can tell they're garbage.
SplitSeamsDNAbluewidow.jpg Split Blue Widows.jpg

And the Mr. Nice G13 Widows. Keepers on the top, Mids in the middle, and 4 duds on the bottom row.
G13Widow.jpg
After looking closer, I can see the tiger stripes are just part of a skin that's peeling off some of the seeds. So I have more faith in the plain gray ones now. They most likely had stripes at one point and the skin just peeled off. Honestly never seen anything like that happening with bagseeds, and makes me wonder about the age of these seeds... or maybe it's just due to the packaging process or them bumpin around in that tube:?:

"Duds" G13WidowDuds.jpg

So looks like 20 decent seeds and 4 duds, not bad for a 15 pack!

It doesnt matter what seeds look like... They are all keepers u can send them to me if u dont like how they look haha no im jk but seeds can be harvested early or late and will look different just like the flowers... What they look like shouldnt determine if they are viable. UNLESS they crush when u squeeze em they will probably germ

I also soak my seeds before i put em in dirt and they light color ones will get darker and the small ones will plump up

I will give all of them a shot except for the DNA Blue Widows. I'm not even going to bother opening the pack. I can see the little seedling in each of the seeds through the splits so they're definitely gonners.

I've germed plenty of bagseeds before, these are just my first seedbank seeds. I guess I was expecting better looking seeds for the price. Then again... the Blue Widows were free!

KT IDK about the other but my Chemdog seeds were all gray/brown. None solid striped but 100% germ and some very nice potent plants. My one good friend passed out on mine.. literally fell and broke my closet door off hahaha

None are crushed but if you click the first pic in post #6 you can see the 2 blue widows are split at the seams, and you can even see the white seedling inside the bottom one. They were free though and extra, EXTRA freebies so I'm not going to sweat it.

That's good to hear. I'm going to start with the 5 fem chemdogs and 1 reg seed yet to be determined. Debating between one of the G13 Widows or one of the Darkstars. Going to take clones of all. If the reg seeds a male, I'll cut it way back to like 1 branch and let it seed the chemdogs a little bit.

I would still be very interested to see if those two Blue Widows respond to a shot glass germination. You never know ... and there's something extra sweet about "phoenix bud". cn

Just wanted to bump this to say

GHS chemdog: 5/5 germ
Mr. Nice G13 Widow: 1/1 germ

Those are from the 'tude. Only germed 6 so I can take a clone of each and stay within my 12 count limit.

The OG GTH #1 I ordered from The Seed Depot has still not shown up, just over a month since they said it was shipped! Attitude got their gear here in 11 days flat...

Nice bump.
I'd suggest holding off on cloning until you've established gender.

In response to the premise of this thread, I'll add the following:

In GENERAL, larger/darker seeds are more likely to be viable, but this is a very broad generalization.

Some strains will make "tiger stripe" seeds; some won't. Some strains put out big seeds, and some put out small. Viable seed color can vary, too.

In fact, when you're dealing with unstable hybrids (that will grow into different looking plants) you can get entirely different phenotype seeds from the same mother plant.

Unless the seeds are really tiny and green looking, and therefore likely too immature to germinate, the only way to know for sure is to plant them.

The 5 Chemdogs are fems, so only question will be the single G13 Widow. I only intend to keep the clone of the best Chemdog pheno but probably won't know which one that is 'till close to harvest. They're stinking like crazy though and only on their third node. I'm happy with what I got from the 'tude, but not happy about not get anything from TSD thus far! No not sure how long I should wait on these things...
