@tightpockt I think you are right regarding shrouds, probably the most efficient way to implement them would be flat to the surface of the fins and sealed off on both sides of the fan. I may have confused the issue by encouraging only a partial shroud in the case of a fan failure. For long heatsinks, this is what I had in mind for a partial:

However, even with fans at 7.5V it works very well without a shroud. Ops is at 12V so I expect plenty of air as is. Probably the main benefit would be that you could run the fans at a much lower fan speed.

I'd cut new shrouds that went from edge of fan to end of heat sink and mount them tight to the fins. Perhaps the same machine screws that hold the drivers in place would be all you need to also hold the shrouds. I'm not too big on the hole saw idea.

Just ordered my custom cut 5.88x 24.5 sheets. Gonna mount them flush and do this right

2700k/3000k or
2700k/3000k + 4000k (equal amount blue but more red than 5000k or 6500k) or
2700k/3000k + 5000k.



i plan on building 4 lamps in total with each 4 cobs on it run @ 700mA. I want to build two lamps at once. look how it is and if i like i build 2 more. now i am unsure about the color spectrum i should order.

If i should mix them, and i have 8 cobs i want to buy now, in what ratio should i mix them? and like mentioned before is 4000k better than 5000k in the bloom cause it has more reds and an almost equal amount of blue compared to the 5000k (cree datasheet)

also is there any data available on the 2700k and 6500k leds? the cree datasheet only shows 3000,4000,5000

Go with straight 3000K.
These curves are relative only to itself not to each other. It means that 5000K has more blue than 4000K even though it might not seem so.

Read the whole thread? What happened? Did you make the other 2? What did this cost you in total to make? Also how many watts from the wall does the longer unit take up? Or will these all hook together and and of course pull a larger amount of watts? Really enjoyed this thread, alot of support on here vs some of the other threads I have been on. How did that pineapple turn out? Congrats on your build and thanks for sharing with everyone.

I've had some abrupt life changes since my last post. I won't go into details however I was forced to put my project on hold. It is now operational, however, to all of our disappointment, filled with strawberries green peppers and tomatoes.

I will post some pictures later tonight. Good to be back!

Never even stared the pineapple unfortunately. I did build the other 2 lights see pics below. I mounted them together using threaded metal rods thru i-hooks. I experimented with fans atop the heatsinks, shrouded and open. Cooling the lights was never an issue. I just wanted my room temp as cool as possible.

So as you can see the exhaust is routed through the heatsinks up and out of the room. My room temps are +2f above ambient house temps. Right now the lights as you see them are running 140w x2 . I have the 3Rd bar unplugged as it is over kill and a waste of power Imo.

The plants are growing vigorously and looking great. The Internode length is almost too short, so making the decision to unplug the 3rd bar was easy. The pepper plants have 60+ blooms and are about 12" high.

Looks like I will be perfecting my new led/organic craft on the fruits and veggie status until such time as my state government pulls their heads out of their asses.
