First Hydro Grow

Hi all,

Since this is my first hydro grow I wanted to post a couple pics of my snowryder and get a little input from a few of our experienced hydro growers.

This is the second week into what is supposed to be a 8 to 10 week grow. Im running 3 gallons in a 5 gallon set-up. I noticed some yellowing around the edges of the bottom 2 leaves but other than that things seem to be going great. My p.h. is running between 6.0 and 6.5. The roots are very white and clean with nice branching.

Snowryder-- Short Stuff Seed Bank.

Light cycle--20/4 under a 100 watt bulb

Nutes--Dyna- Gro Liquid Bloom. (Using a quarter of the recommended 3 ml a gallon.

2- 10 gallon pumps and 2-4" air stones.

Any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Looking good so far ;) I would PH your water a little lower. If you can get it around 5.5 it wont jump sky high on you when your plant start sucking up all those nutes. Your PH should rise on a daily basis. When it does so this means your plant is eating the available nutes in the reservoir thus making the PH climb and taking the acidity out of the water :D The lower leaves losing color is a usual thing for most...in order for everything up top to thrive, some lower stuff must pay the ultimate fine lulz. Nice shade of green you got going also so I'd say you're trucking right along. Keep it comin mane

Thanks for the info. I have noticed that in the last few days my p.h. kept rising but wasnt sure why. Think I should up my nutes to about half strength? Was only using 1 quarter strength. Also I noticed some slight yellowing on the tip of the bottom leaves, any advice on this?

I don't personally ever go over 1/2 strength nutes throughout Veg period because I have a less is more philosophy. Much easier to deal with not enough nutes compared to overnuting. At that size I would stick with the 1/4 strength nutes until the middle of Week 2ish, but then again that's jmo. Yellowing tips is a sign of nute burn usually. Just mix up your reservoir nice and thorough, take a cup of nute water out of your reservoir and test it in the cup. The bubbles will mess with your readings so be careful if you're using digitals. The hardest part about DWC is the wait and when to know not to do anything at all --> the wait game :/

Decided since my P.H. continues to skyrocket (was running 7) today that Im gonna change my res out. Should be time anyway. Gonna take your advice and sart my p.h. lower. Also going to use distilled water only this round. Tried letting tap water sit out for a couple days and used that in my first res , so Im hoping the distilled water will make some difference in my p.h. levels. The nute stength Im using is 3-12-6. Not sure if this is a good combo or not. And yes the WAIT sux..lol

I thought the same thing.... I was buying RO water for $1/gallon. Then I switched to PH'd tap water and didnt go back. I dont notice the difference in growth honestly, and my PH swings n such are normal. Your NPK ratio's are definately off haha. your P shouldnt be that high. Ive found a balanced NPK ratio to be a goood start. Just add more nitrogen if ya wish~

you do know you're using a bloom nutrient in veg don't you? dyna gro grow (which you should be using right now) has a NPK value of 7-9-5. And while I'm at it.........100 watt bulb? incandescent right? spend a little coin on a light. It appears you're going into this unprepared doesn't make it impossible but increases your risk of failure.

The 100 watt is a MH and Im using 4 cfl's on the sides. Switched nutes and got my p.h. to a decent level so hopefully that will help. Cant really got to my other light right now due to the very limited space, thus the snowryder due to it small size.

You can grow weed with a 85w CFL light, your 100w MH and side CFL lighting is more than enough for what you're doing. Grow on! Im excited

Hi Vumar,

Thanks for the info on my nutes. Changed my res and went to a more rounded blend of nutes. Hopefully this will help wih my p.h. Right before I restarted my pumps the p.h. level was running around 5. Thanks for all the input..Good advice is always welcome.

Yes, stuck with dyna gro.. Here are a couple more pics after the nute switch and res change. he yellowing went away and my p.h. levels are running steady at 5 to 5.7. Starting on week 4 and I am think about switching lights. Im using a 100 watt MH with 4 cfl,s for side lighting and was thinking about switching to 150 watt hps.

Hey all,

Just thought I would add a couple new pics of my girl even thought she does look rather pitiful right now. Went to visit her yesterday and saw the first of many of those little red devils. Man thos rascals sure work fast. Only good thing that I didnt see were any eggs. I sprayed her with neem oil today and hopefully after a few more sprays they will be taken care of.

I just wonder since she is an auto flower if this could mess with my projected harvest date.?001.jpg003.jpg

That looks like a calcium deficiency to me.. although I'd like a second opinion. Calcium is best absorbed at 5.4 to 5.8

Thanks for the info. What would you recommend using?
Didn't you say you were using Dyna Gro? I'm pretty sure that has calcium in it.. make sure your ph is correct

If you still don't have enough calcium, there's a lot of calmag supplements, just search calmag on amazon

Yeah Im using Dyna Gro and it does have calcium in it. My ph has been running steady between 5.5 and 6.

If her condition is due to mites, how long do you think it will take her to recover?
