First home made led, 730 nm goodnight light

Cost me about $25 to make a 21 watt, 730 nm far red led light bar. Going to run it for about 15 minutes at the end of The Daily Light cycle during flowering. Suppose to cut the lights off time from 12 hours to 10. And cut a few days off the total cycle.

Solder the led in series. You can read the driver and power supply specs in the pics. The LED's are 3w chanzon cob's from Amazon. A lot less expensive then other follower initiator's.

You'll need a razor, small pliers, and soldering supplies. If it saves 5 days on a 60 day cycle then just the light savings will pay for it.

ok i am going to have to look into this making my own led . i will see if its worth it or not . they sell assembled ones 300 watts about 85 bucks . just 300 watts of led are 100 bucks and ill have to buy a power supply and build a case to put it in and wire it all . wonder how these would compare to a mars hydro . thinking its the same . but yea for a small system why not its fun . hard to beat china built the can do it cheaper then us even when were doing it for free lol.

I talked to a friend of mine who's an engineer he says they cannot build high quality LEDs cheaply. So your home built LED light will the only as good as the LED components you buy. This one isn't for photosynthesis so it was a bit cheaper. It was still fun to build

depends where you shop for your chips

Last time I found a supplier in china that got me cheap cobs from canada

Seen some 1000w and bigger cobs there were smd based looking around $130 plus postage for 3000k and $190 for reds, the red`s have a blue spike, I liked that they have 8 x screw terminals so you can use 4 x 200w or 4 x 300w drivers on them easy, but not in any need of new lights atm, I may get one of the 3000k`s cos there cheaper and build a light just to have a good back up......... or you know to sell to people, I see people paying £1 per watt for leds or more
