Well the roots had already started trying to escape the planters, so I had to replant the largest ones into 2 gallon grow bags. This was done over the past 3 days. The rest of the seedlings were either cannibalized for the soil or transplanted outside. I'm now down to 16 inside.

12/12 600W HPS
Temps running 70F lights off, 80F lights on.
RH ~60 lights off, ~45% lights on
Oh and yeah! They're starting to stink...
Got a nice picture of some preflower
Looking good man.. Tasty.

Today makes day 20 since they've popped out of the soil.

I lowered the plants all the way down hoping they might stretch a little. By next week I should have something definitive on sexing for at least half the plants. In the meantime, here's a few pics.

00 is the overview of the tent. I need to identify and kick the bastards out - and make room to veg a few clones (I'll bring them outside during lights off until my veg chamber is complete.
01 is one that apparently didn't like the FFOF very well, I flushed and all the new growth looks good. Should I go ahead and cut those four fan leaves that are damaged?
02 I think may be female, but too soon to tell
03 I think might be male
04 I'm pretty sure is male
05 I think will end up being female

How long can the males be in there with the females? I don't want to seed out everything, but at the same time I don't want to get trigger happy and throw out a female.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Also, is it better to trim (if I'm going to do so) at lights on or lights off?
And - when should I start adding bloom nutes? I have guano budswell for that. Soil is FFOF and have not given them anything but plain water so far.

Male balls at this stage shouldn't even affect you(pollen shouldn't be fully ready to pollinate). If you do have balls on the plants, and it is a definite male, just toss them away. I've seen people on this site find males a two or three weeks in flowering, and still be able to get rid of the plant(s) before any harm was done.

Fox Farm soil is liked by a bunch of people because you don't really have to put any nutes in it for the first 3-4 weeks. Since your at the point where the sex of the plants are showing..... you should probably start to slowly incorporate bloom nutes at a low level. Man.... I'm blowed.

Yes I think people are definitely over paranoid about males, a little pollen never hurt anyone really, especially at this stage as the above poster mentions....

These plants are a little on the frail side no offsense and they wont produce a whole lot but what can you expect when your doing this 12/12 from seed, otherwise they are pretty healthy and you have done a good job. Aside from the minor clawing Its going to be alright and patience will reward you with a satisfactory harvest however small it may be, It will be good if your moving to hydro for this style of growing much more appropriate, for me I like to have lots of big rooms with lots of plants and use soil just for the reduction in work that I must do. If your going to get a space upgrade stick with soil and spend a good 6 monhts on each plant vegging and flowering but just start a new plant every day or every week so that you keep up with your supply.

But yea ive grown a lot weaker plants then this, I have grown plants that produced a gram before lol(mostly autos)...these are going to be about a quarter to 10 grams each or a half ounce at best I would predict with your 600W, I also really doubt that they will be totally finished in 2.5months total time, your looking at like 90-100 days here if you want the best outcome. I know your in a rush this time around but 12/12 especially from seed is just not worth it, Id say it actually slows the whole process down at first. If you would of vegged for just 2 to 4 weeks you would be getting over 1oz per plant here and overall probably finish in roughly the same time frame. A good veg really is the most important thing. If you have witnessed someone on here do 12/12 from seed and have the plant actually fully finish in soil in less than 90 days Id be pretty surprised, unless it was an F20 or something they have bred out for a long time, or t hey just just got really lucky. Your going to get a rainbow of phenotypes here, Odds are that each of these is a different phenotype.

If you decide for some reason you have an extra month Id abort this whole thing to be honest, Id get rid of the males then flip it to 18/6 at a rate of one-half hour extra per day, Id then top them or start the first LST and veg for 1 month and then hit them up with 12/12, but you know if you just want to get this under your belt then that is all good also, you are DEFINITELY not going to be disappointed even if you stay on this course, that I can guarantee you, and the first grow is agonizing.

BTW, Pic 5 is male and the rest are too early to tell.

you wont need any nutes but if the "guano budswell" is made only of bat guano, Id say it safe to use it as soon as they start flowering, but just wait and see if they get hungry or not, you could do this whole grow with out using any nutes probably. If you go out there one day and they are noticeably more pale only then you should feed. Overfeed damage is irreversible while underfed is fixed almost instantly.

What you need is some earth worm casting tea and some Myco incollent for growing in this fox farms, Mollasses is good also, these things will feed the soil and keep it feeding the plant and they are also pretty hard to overdo. The Bat guano you have will be very good also.

I've already made the decision to slowly switch over to hydro, using the waterfarm buckets. I've used them in the past with a friend when I was helping him with his first grow. Much simpler to manage than soil IMO.

One of the local hydro shops here have them in store for $64 + tax, so I might add one of these buckets as space starts to clear out in the tent.

Edit:

I also thinking about firing up that veg chamber I started working on to get clones going and veg them for a couple of weeks before moving into the tent. Right now I have all my parts and supplies in the bottom of that thing, but as soon as I get it cleaned out I'll take some pics. I'm thinking of going DWC in the bottom of it, since it's easy to drain and fill via drainplug already built in.

Yo pete, you wouldn't happen to be in the city in Texas where us folk from this town like to 'Keep It Weird' would you?

Not from Austin, but that place is a blast. I'm actually not in TX anymore, I'd like to move back but that's still a few years off.

The first three pics look like nanners to me. The fourth pic is a little too out of focus to make a guess...

The other two I spared yesterday were definitely males, and I've identified a third... All three were slaughtered. I can clearly see one female, and probably a second. Starting to get some room cleared up in there.

RH: ~45-65%
Temp: 72 lights off, 84-86 lights on

Plants were starting to droop a little, watered with 25% strength guano super tea & budswel

1) Overview
2) Bastard #1
3) Bastard #2
4) Bastard #3
5) Bitch #1
6) Bitch #2?

Yanked another male this morning; killed the bastard and dumped his body in the woods (I love the way that sounds...)

So far I've got 3 confirmed females, 2 more possible males, and the other 5 are still too immature to know either way.

I'm going to spend some cash out one of the local hydro shops today and pick up a waterfarm. Later on this week I'll try to plant a clone I'm trying to get rooted. Time to order seeds and start this perpetual grow idea...

Good news it that I've identified all the males...
Bad news was that there were 11 of 16 total plants...
Ugly... I accidentally chopped a female

Could be worse, I have 4 plants that are coming along nicely, and one clone cutting that started taking root that is in the waterfarm bucket. The clone didn't like the light so much, so it probably wont make it. I'm not worried much about it, as I have an order with attitude that should be getting in sometime next week. I'd rather have better genetics, the clone is just a cutting off one of these bagseed plants for practice.

Temps are running a little higher than I would like (86 at lights on), but the girls aren't showing any signs of stress. Watering with 25% nutes when the plants start to droop a little - right now that's once every 4 days.

Regarding image #2... how much height should the cola be putting on weekly? I'd like to see if there's anything I need to be watching for.

It will depend on your strain man. Just expect growth per week in general. I wouldn't worry about 86 degrees if that's your maximum temp. I had mine around that temp for awhile and had explosive growth, regardless. One thing -- are you watering with nutes with every watering, or every other watering? Consider only using nutes every other watering and bump it to 50%. You might be killing off valuable microbes.

I've experienced a bit of growth spurt lately, almost to the point that I'm worried I may run out of height. I suspect it might be from watering with 33% strength nutes... the next watering I was planning on jumping to 50%. Waterings are currently every 3 days, will probably be every other day by next week.

Temps: 70-82F
RH: 50-70%

Growth is about 28" for the tallest one, which leaves about 12" space until they touch the glass on the hood.

I also have a bug in there somewhere that's munching on my fan leaves... any suggestions?
