First grow room / what’s a ballast

I’m thinking about buying a 4x8x7 with a removable divisor in the middle, and then going from there. It’ll be out of a SoCal garage and my pending question right now is if I’ll need a ballast.
on my current list of needs I have lights (thinking sf4000)
At least 1 fan (AC infinity T4, & ducting)
& then the pots & shit for the plants obviously

the property already runs pretty high on electricity over $500 a month, and I’m not sure I understand the purpose of the ballast. If someone could explain or let me know if I need that would be dope. Thank you all

the spider farmer light your talking about should have a ballast and everything you need to run it etc....

ballasts usually control the amount of amp/watt/current that is sent to the light source... most light kits come with... if your building your own you might need to get one etc

ok thanks I think I get it. Would you recommend SF4000 or is there something better for the money?

Buy the light that uses the most watts at the outlet. The more light you provide the more bud you get. Always go big on lights. As much as you can afford.
bet. I’m looking at the specs & don’t see anything obviously stating how much, do you know what I’m supposed to be looking at / for or how it’s written
