First Grow - Pay No Mind to the Street Light in My Closet

Well, I've dried a bud off of this plant, it is final, I've grown some of the finest weed I've ever smoked, and 3/3 friends so far agree. Might be just because it's fresh, but I like to think its because of the love. I've trimmed off a couple more mature buds, but these guys are still going strong, not going to be finished for at least a week and a half I'd guess.

The buds smell so healthy and clean, with all these beautiful notes of spicyness, sweetness, and general floridness :) The smoke tastes excellent.

Here is my little dryer, needs a fan but it works for now with small amounts.

Is that a mh bulb? if so where did you get the cord that would work for it? I have been tring to find a ballest or "special" cord to work for a mh and hps bulbs that i got at Home Depot

go to your local specialty electronics store and ask someone. i bought a HPS and MH bulb without prior knowledge that a Mh bulb won't run in a old HPS ballast. I have a 600 watt MH attatched to a reflector with a 12 or so foot long cord to the external ballast, but it's a HPS ballast so it won't fit in the holes. someone told me i could ghetto rig it but i'm not trying to burn my shit down. i think you need a different ballast or a conversion bulb.

the only thing that i think would give you some improvement would be to lower the hps down so its between the plants, you dont have a reflector so a lot of your light is just going strait to the wall, lower it down so the tops of the plants are about half way up the bulb and then maybe give them a half turn every day or so

now who knows of a canadian seed bank that sends to US and is stealthy and quality product????
why canadian? I got my seeds from marijuana-seeds.nl and it was a little slow, but they're from overseas so its to be expected. They have better prices than most, and very discrete packaging. 4/5 seeds I tried to germinate sprouted, who knows how many are girls but they look good so far...

sorry, alias didn't mean to hijack your thread, got a little carried away.

jeesh journal hijackers...i got like five posts other than me and you are discussing this shit, I am so literaly legitamately offended (sarcastic)

I have lowered the hps, it is level with the plants. My next planned grow will be a vertical scrog in beehive (hexagonal walls) configuration with natmoon's air baskets

it should be sexy, but I am already set with this first crop. life is beautiful, nature is generous.

also currently drunk.

but i have the bulbs at an optimal height. I believe to have determined the critical factors in lowering my yield

high temps

low humidity

root bound

general noobitoucity

I have been able to correct these over time. Although I still do not test my water (its all by feel baby).

so not quite sure when I should pull these girls, I've been drying a few buds, already smoked an eighth of it or so, and used all the trimmings for some brownies.

lemme know what you think, still pretty low yield, but all around I'm quite happy with it being my first time. my friends are psyched.

also...I'm thinking of trying get some of those branches to clone after I snip the buds, seems like it won't work mostly...either that or trying to get it back into veg....i'm mostly concerned about dale, the one in the back right. I really like her branching structure.

one clone going strong, about 10" high in vegging under 52w of CFL, to be 104w+ once I think he's ready. I left my pillow on him last night so he's a bit bent out of shape on that (oh!). The natural sun was worth it.

I harvested (non-trial amount) approximately 2.8 months into flowering. I have one plant still going, but as I planned to harvest a month ago, she's not going to be able to wait much longer.

I'm thinking I yielded about 1.5oz+ and I'm pretty glad. Not good considering 400w HPS and 3+2 months growth, but pretty good considering first grow, over winter, and only 3 plants. But readers (should you exist), I'd rather hear what you think.

Pics in the jar is 3rd harvest (out of a likely 5, first two long since dried and smoked...was just running early trials :)) Pics in the box are from yesterday. Pic in the closet is my buddy Dale, currently the only one with progeny.

Hey man! No worries they still look yummy:weed:

I read through.. but maybe I missed it. What kind of soil were you using? or mixture ratios of what?

I believe to have determined the critical factors in lowering my yield:
high temps
low humidity
root bound
Actually I'm not sure those were your issues! I mean, maybe.. I don't know to what extreme each of those issues you had were.

My temps were constantly highish (high 70s-mid 80s) even through vegetation. my humidity is in the 30s-40s. I used 3 gallon pots, so i'm not sure a root bound problem was your problem. But hey, everyone has different results regardless of how similar a grow is! I'm just comparing, maybe you can narrow it down more. and you asked for some input :P ask any questions if you want

good luck with your clones! you should take a picture of it.. cloning took a while for me. almost a month haha.

I think they look great man to top it was your first grow (journal). My first grow was a catastrophe. Be happy you know how to make it through a cycle now you can do some really amazing stuff. I started with dirt then worked my way to hydro. I didn’t see if your clones took or not. Do you know how to clone yet? If so, that is what is going to make or break you. Starting from seeds is way to slow!

hey guys, my camera has been broken so no pics of the one surviving clone. So the answer is pretty much no, I don't know how to clone well at all. But my one clone can be a momma and is currently vegging under some cfls. I'm possibly going to move soon and my current grow space isn't that good, so I'm going to bide my time and maybe work on my cloning.

And yes, it really was a success. I've got 1.5oz of the finest weed I've ever smoked, and it was way too dry when i weighed it so might really be more than that (looks like more to me). Needless to say, I and my friends are very happy with my first attempt.

I haven't taken the time yet, but I'm going to go through my journal then go through your's wake and compare. It might just be a net effect of small differences, not sure. I have learned a whole lot in this process that would have been good to know at the start.

I'll keep this journal updated on that clone and once I start a second set-up I will let you know :)
