First Grow, Ohio (Outdoors)

Hey everyone I've been kicking around the idea of growing for about two years now and finally decided to do it. I think I'm gonna try and grow 3 Indica, due to they grow faster and smaller in size. I want a plant that is 6ft max in height, but still bushy enough to get 2 ounces dried off of it. From what I have been reading white widow and northern lights would be a good option? Also ill be sure to buy only female seeds so I do not waste my time with males. What places would you suggest to get seeds from? Do you put one seed or a few in each hole?

Now for the good stuff, once I get my seeds after deciding my plant I plan to start with them indoors. I'll start by putting the seeds into a wet paper towel till they germinate then putting them in high grade soil. Barley covering the seeds with soil. I plan on doing this for a week or two till they look like there ready to go into the ground. I've read that you should not use any nutrients for roughly 4 weeks? Is that correct? The ph of the soil should be about 6 correct?

I plan to plant them during the last week of May or first of June depending on the weather in a grove of pine trees, next to the stream running through. So I can easily water them, and look less suspicious carrying buckets of water into the woods. I believe I will most likely go with white window or northern lights. What nutrients do you recommend feeding the plants and how often to check/water them? How much water, a bottle or two? or a bucket?

My other question is how strong will three of these plants be? The closest house in about 250-300 yards away, and the wind blows towards the plants will I have to worry about the neighbors?

Please point out any errors in my method, or if you know a better way. Any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated as this is my first grow. Thanks for the help and input in advance!

To start with your questions yes get gene used seeds. It truly is heartbreaking pulling out males that you have been growing for a couple months. If you want to get seeds I suggest ordering them online. I recommend herbies seed co. (I'm not advertising I'm only recommending them because I have received my order 100% of the time) they also have super stealth shipping.

Your method of germination and starting the seedlings is good. Just make sure you use soil without nutrients in it or you risk burning your seedlings. 4 weeks without nutrients is correct though some people start earlier. Just make sure you start adding nutrients at small doses like half of the recommended amount. I'm telling you right now don't worry about the soil ph. Most testers are in accurate and you will likely think your ph is off when it really isn't and cause more harm than good.

When planting outdoors your plant's height will be determined depending on how deep you dig the hole for your plant. Northern lights and white widow are good strains. I use general hydroponics 3 part nutrients grow, micro and bloom. I recommend these because it has the full spectrum of nutrients so you do not have to use any supplements. It very simple just follow the feed program on the bottle of on their website. Watering is very simple depending on how big you dug your hole for the plant is how much water you should give it. It also depends on how big you plant is. Only water when the soil is thoroughly dried out. Outdoors I usually just wait I until the plant starts to wilt. So if you dug a 5 gallon hole give it 5 gallons of water.

For or the smell just make sure you don't get strains that have a strong odor such as a skunk strain. It should be fine at that distance but if your worried just get a strain that doesn't have a strong odor. I have grown northern lights and white widow they aren't very strong smelling so you should be fine.

I think both white widow or northern lights would be fantastic selections for what you say you are looking for. Make sure you put up some sort of fencing around them when they are young if you have a lot of deer and animals in the area. Other than that, Idk shit about outdoors grows.

This is my outdoor in Ohio. Planted in May. This was my first attempt at growing cannabis remember. My tallest plant was 7 ft but it was a sativa. View attachment 2971945
Do you plan on putting them in pots? Or right into the ground.

I was figuring putting them right into the ground after there about a foot tall. Would you recommend keeping them in pots? Also I found a strain called bianca, its suppose to be potent and need minimal maintenance would that be a better way to go then white widow? For a plant 5-6 feet tall how deep of a hole would you recommend?

Also dirf looks like a successful first grow! I prefer savita over indica but figured I will keep it simple on my first go.

Well I noticed you said height was an issue. Keeping them in pots will restrict the growth of the roots also restricting the height of the plant. While you will have some pretty healthy plants pre veging them I think they are gonna get real big if you put them in the ground, regardless if its sativa or indica. Will they be bigger than 5-6ft? Depends on too many factors to just be able to say. I used pots and midway thru my grow I had to change location. So it really helped me. Keep your water you are going to feed with's PH at 6.0-6.5. I prefer 6.3 myself! I used fox farm nutrients for my outdoor. They worked pretty good. Just be sure to ALWAYS use less than more. You can always give another feeding if they need more. If you burn them well they will always be burnt. Good luck making your decision. Please update when you start your grow, I would really like to watch!

I'll be sure to keep you guys updated, I'll probably be needing help every week to haha. I've done my research on my seed I decided to go with these white widow seeds. http://www.herbiesheadshop.com/female-white-widow-x-big-bud-feminised-seeds-2376

Now that you mention having to move your plants it would be a smart idea to keep in pots, so if something happens you can move them quickly and not worry about damaging them. Also it should help control height some. I'll fill the pots with potting soil, and after 4 weeks I'll give fox farm nutrients a try.

Why wait until 4 weeks? Give them nutrients when you see they need them. They will tell you. Start with REALLY small doses. Just to get the plant used to it and see how it reacts. Slowly work your way up. Most of my plants use nutrients by week 2 of veg.

I'm interested in what everyone thinks about planting in a pine grove. I am very secluded and would love to grow outdoors, but afraid of plants not getting enought light. Live in southeast, and trees would cast shadows from noon till about 3. Comments, please?

Pine's will make the soil acidic. Remember that. Also, you'd want to dig a hole roughly 3' wide and 4' feet deep. This should be plenty of space for the roots to grow thus giving you a bigger plant in the end.

If it's just a 3 hour shadow during the hottest time of the day you might not run into any issues. I've had a outdoor grow with the same conditions (shadow over the plants from noonish to 4 and they turned out great

I read somewhere that waiting 4 weeks to add nutrients was a good idea. I'll start to add a little on week two. My trees will also be near some pines, will i be okay long as I am 15 feet away from the last tree? I plan to use my own soil when I plant.

I've heard if you put moth balls in a circle around the plant about 2-4 feet out to keep away animals does this really work? I'm currently thinking I will put liquid fence around my plants, I have read a lot of good about it.

You will be okay near the tree. A period of darkness is not a bad thing either. Its nature. I don't know about the moth balls but you can just use your own urine. I don't eat meat so it dosent really work for me. I always used coyote urine.

After doing hours more of research, I've come to realize growing white widow outside will be a challenge when beating the frost. The first frost is around November 17, and the White Widows wont start flowering till at least end of August cutting it close. I started looking into some autoflowering strains. I found KC-45 which grow great outdoors even in Canada. It produces High yields and needs very little care. It produces about 3 pounds, leaving me around 1 dry? Of course I know it will not be as potent as WW but definitely a good first grow as this is a learning experience. Its said to finish around mid September which is good because it'll be before hunting season and my vacation in early October.

Do you guys know anything on Kc-45? I've only read good about, and hope to have same results.

I dig my holes 4' x 3' x 2 1/2-3 foot deep. Mix in some good garden soil and plant 2 plants evenly spaced in that hole. For a week before you plant them, start taking them outside, first day find a nice shady spot to keep them out of the sun, gradually introduce more and longer exposure to sunlight. This will help to lessen the stress they will receive from going from artificial light to sunlight. I also plant mint in between the plants, this helps keep white flies and other pests away. Crushed eggshells or lava rocks will keep soft bodied crawlys away from the plants. Son't pack the dirt down, don't walk on it, keep it loose and aerated.

And uh Dirf, I only know of one Dirf in Ohio, I wonder if you know a buddy of mine named Fred?? ;)
