First Grow in the Discobox

Hi there guys,

this is about a very first grow in a rather ambitious diy-growbox - the Discobox.
I hope I picked up the growing-basics by now, so I don't ruin the first grow totally, haha.

- Controlled by microcomputer (Arduino)
- highly selfregulating
- 120W Led-Lights
- Selfmade Carbon-Filter

If you're interested about the project you can get some more detailed information about the setup in this topic: https://www.rollitup.org/t/i-give-you-the-discobox-arduino-controlled-diy-system.833962/

There are two young plants in there, about 23 days old. Unluckily they already experienced nutrient burn, but thanks to some fine gentlemen giving me tips they recovered quite well, I think.

So, here we go - 23 days (from seeds). Do you guys think they're growing too slow?
Nutrient burn probably slowed them down, right? Would love to have your input.

Keep you updated. If you have any questions regarding the setup, I'm happy to answer them.
Feel free to comment on this journal if you have any suggestions to make or tips to give.

Thank you

Still not really happy with rate of growth. This is day 23:2014-06-20 17.59.33.jpg
Its getting quite bushy, and the amount of nodes is not too bad I think, but its not gaining any height.
You can directly compare this picture to the picture from yesterday:2014-06-19 10.49.58.jpg

The little side-leafs on the newest leaf-pair grew somehow, if you compare the two pictures. Do you guys think its going ok?
No enough light will always show in stretching, right? So as long as there is no stretching going on, there is at least enaugh light?

Just changed the Red-Blue Ratio from R:30W B:20W to R:50W B20W. Will see how this works out.

So, 8 Days later... still not happy with growth. They got massively nutrient-burnt again, although I wasn't feeding anything. Maybe the BioBizz All Mix soild combinet with the blumat watering system is overfeeding them, I don't know. Adding to this PH got a little out of control as well. Got rid of the burnt leaves-edges and germinated 2 more seeds today. I wont feed them with blumats and already flushed the All Mix soil in hope to keep them from burning. Flushed the older plants as well. Going to have a closer look at the ph to keep it around 6.5 this time.

Any tips and hints appreciated.

EDIT: Pretty sure the plants suffer zinc-deficiency caused by too high ph. Explains the slow growth and the yellowish leafes. Gonna keep my ph now between 5,5-6.

Oh yeah, and I've spotted this little guy. Is going to eat my plants?

Well, I think the plants are finally recovering slowly. The new leafes look quite healthy and they are growing more apart than before (not so bunched together).
I started two new plants as well, I expect them to catch up quite quickly since I don't want to repeat my mistakes with them again. They even have names, Qing and Hijau - yeah! :D

Yeahuu, I'm so happy. Plants are looking healthy again, no more yellowing leafes (though there are still some old yellowish left on the pictures) and they are finally growing in size!
Pretty delayed, but the manual-watering (not using the blumat-watering-system anymore) and making sure the ph is right seems to have fixed my problems, finally!

Well, times changed. Some new Photos:

Just built a little scrog. I need your advice, do you think the plants going to benefit from it? Do you think there is going to be enaugh space for the scrog and the plants?

they look great but i think it will get really crowded in there but i do the same thing sometimes.

have you come up with a watering plan for the 2 in the back?

Thanks man! I'm a bit worried about the space as well. Maybe the scrog isn't really needed since most of the surface is covered anyway.
What would you recommed me to use make the best use of the leftover space?

Here is a picture for better reference. There needs to be some space left at the top of the plants since the led-angle needs the room to distribute light.

@Discobox
I'm scrogging 6 plants in a 2x3x7 closet, I had the same problem
- 1qt Snapple bottle with the bottom cut off
- as much 1/2" PVC as you need to reach the pots in the back
-1/2" screw-in adapter
- silicone sealant to prevent water from dripping
PVC goes through the scrog and to the dirt and water gets dumped in the Snapple bottle end of story... (I water to waste and have a siphon rigged up to dump the waste....)

do you know if they are male or female? a male two would free up space.
No, feminized seeds only.

@FrozenChosen: Thanks mate, in case I'm actually using the scrog I'll get something like this, thanks for inspiration.

Do you guys think I should switch to 12/12 now? And what do you think I can expect for dry-weight (in case I'm not making terrible mistakes)?

i don't like going to 12/12 too early because bigger plants means more yield.

if you are going to use the screen, then i think you would want to top the plants to get more bud sites above the screen. you should wait for about 2 weeks after the last topping before you switch to 12/12. i think people top multiple times to fill the screen, but in your area, you may only need to top once.

just an idea of what i might do.

i would get rid of the screen, top the plants and lst the branches as they get big enough. After a week or so, see how they are doing. continue with the lst to keep an even canopy. i may top again or wait another week and go to 12/12. if i was to top again, then i would wait about 2 weeks until going to 12/12. it all depends on how fast they recover after topping.

Ok, here is an update. Startet 12/12 some days ago. Actually using the scrog, looks pretty ok to me. Healthy seem to be very healthy. I'm happy.
To maintain the plants I put them on a extra plate in the button. I can easily pull out all for pots with the scrog together. Works fine.

What do you guys think?

Uh, progress every day. Happy.
Do you guys have an Idea what there is to expect in dryweight - in case I don't make big mistaktes?
