wonder if females is better growers? i bet my mom would grow the funk outta weed.
me? im just messin with water and seeds like a lil kid
Well Stink, you KNOW you're gonna get a hell yes from me! I'm biased though, of course. :-D On the real though, it's hard to say because there are a couple of guys who have posted to this thread who seem just as passionate about their grows as I am. You know, sitting and staring at the ladies, making frequent visits to the grow room, making sure all of the surrounding are just right like pampering the girls as though they are babies! However, women naturally and instinctively are nurturers so ... I would think we could grow the s**t out of some bud as is evident right here on RIU. I gotta say this though 'cause I'm gettin' real chatty ... if that's your grow in your profile pic your "just messin' with water and seeds" is working out really well for ya! I guess the jury is still out on the question. Maybe we should set up a poll!

plants are really looking good, when will you 12/12??
'Preciate that Mane. I started my 12/12 on Monday the 14th 'cause two of my girls are showing pistils. Since the others are autoflowers anyway, they will be cool and are actually starting to sprout a few white hairs of their own here and there. My thing is this ... since I started the new 12/12 cycle under my MH bulb, I am wondering if I should go ahead and switch to my HPS bulb right away. I really wanted to start flowering in a separate room but ... just don't have the space for it so I need to keep it simple. Do I just make the transition from MH to HPS without any other special considerations or transition instructions? I haven't really found anything around the boards here that specifically says I have to make the lighting change any special way, but I can't help but wonder. Like today, the girls will wake up at 9 a.m., should I let them wake up to the HPS bulb? This question is for all who read it ... hit me with your knowledge/experience. Holla!

keeping them under a MH for the first 2~3 weeks is known to reduce the stretch, using both bulbs in conjunction is known to improve quality, I don't have this problem cause I use a CMH bulb which has the same spectrum as the sun :)

Oh that's cool Riddleme, you replicate the sun but don't have to deal with the excess heat, huh? And you can do your entire grow with the ceramic bulb? I may have to try that next time. My 400 watts is kickin' heatwise. I really would like to have gotten a hookup where I could have run both at the same time but ... I'm a noob. There's much I'll do differently next grow. How much difference in stretch, inchwise, to you think there will be if I go on and switch out my bulbs? I'm askin' all this questions, maybe I just need to check out your "calling all noobs" link, huh? ;-) I'm on my way. :-D

no way to say, it is totally based on strain and garden conditions

and yes the CMH runs cooler and works for whole grow

Riddle has a point. Blue spectrum is effective in reducing stretch, and the MH contains much more blue spectrum than an HPS. You could keep em under the MH until the initial bloom stretch stops, then go HPS. However, if you take a look at our grow below, you'll see that we go right into the HPS and have very compact plants. We do use Digilux HPS which contain some Blue and the 1000's provide 155,000 lumens. I did not read your entire thread, but how is your humidity? As you get deeper into the bloom cycle this will be very important. We like to keep ours under 45% to fight off the powdery mildew.

I'm one of those chics who just goes for it. If I screw up too badly, which I really hope I don't, then I learn from it so that I can do better on the next grow. With that said, at about 1 minute until 9 a.m. in total darkness, I felt my way around and got my MH bulb transferred out and replaced it with my HPS bulb. When my timer turned the lights on, I was bathed in orange/red glow! LOL! I LOVE the color of that bulb in the room. It's still bright but the hue is purty (too girlie????) ;-) Anyway, my humidity at present is maintaining an average of 41%, my temp is averaging 70 - 75 degrees F during the day, 58 - 60 at night. I actually have another hygrometer coming today so that I can have a "second opinion" in the grow space, if you will. That way I can really stay on top of the humidity issue during this flowering period. Good lookin' out on the advice, thanks. I think I'm gonna get a dehumidifier this weekend to be on the safe side. I see what you mean about your plants under your HPS lights, they are really low and compact, and I noticed under the pic you "bent" and "supercropped" them. (Awesome grow!!!) By bending do you mean you LST them? If so, I have yet to find a way to do that with a hydroponic grow. I really wish I could because the plants come out so much fuller, as well as stay low.

the other guy already said it but yea the first 2weeks keep it mh if you want to keep the stretch low, but that all depends on the strain as already stated. Alot f people have said t has improved the stretch on their plants compared to the HPS.

best thing i can suggest to lst with hydroponics is to get some plant ties or the Velcro plant ties, cut it pretty long and loop it and tape it down to the top of your reservoir. You might have to super crop the the stalk if it's to strong to just bend.

Kind of late now so it wont be as effective as on seedlings or small vegetating plants... But it will take it down a couple inches, and expose some branching.

Yah Mane, spent some time researching the LST hydro grow topic and came up with exactly what you said. Like I said earlier in the thread, I'm a chic who goes for it so y'all don't be surprised when I post pics next week of my girls slightly bent so I can train them to grow low and uniform. That will really work well for me. I may try one or two first, see how they respond over the next coupla days, then follow suit with the rest if it looks like my ladies can take it. Thanks for the info. Mane :-D
