First grow Cabi + PC case

hi all, so im a first time grower growing mostly for fun and myself. i will post my setup and progress on here any input and advice is highly appreciated.

im growing some bag seed i got from a friend, so i don't know what strain ive got, though im pretty sure its mostly sativa. im growing in to stages and areas, veging in cabinet a flowering in PC case. growing medium is palm peat, similar to coco coir. progress so far, geminated and planted 5 seeds, 3 have sprouted after planting.

How did you germ the seeds? How long until you saw sprout and then how long from plant until you saw the seedlings?

I'm curious because it's been about 6 days since I put mine in soil after germinating in water and I don't see leaves. I'm thinking of forgetting these and trying some more.

I germed buy puttin em on a wet cotton swab and putting another swab on top in a small dish in my drawer.

for the first 3 seeds i saw germination after about 3 days and 5 days for the other 2.

about 2 days to seedlings, i only had about 3mm (1/8 inch) of soil over them kept quite moist by watering morning and night under 24 hour light. using 4 x 20W CLF equivalent to 400w and each giving 1200 Lum.

They seem quite powerful wit high lumen output. anyone tried this type of LED?

Ok .. I think I fucked up my seeds. I let them sit in water for 24 hrs, all sunk and I didn't see any cracking or tails. I then put them under a wet paper towel for 24 hrs and saw what I thought was cracking on all three seed. put them in soil with a bout 1/2 to cover and placed them under 18/6 with 3 x 45w 6500k cfl.

I think I will try to properly germinate my two remaining seeds and hopefully see tails on those ..

I'm not sure about LED, this is my first time growing and wanted to keep things as low $$ as possible. What would those LED be used for?

So we are both firs time growers, the LEDs would be used for the flowering stage, i would get the 2700-3000 K ones though, i waited for roots to show before planting, that way u know they really germinated, lighting cost me about US$ 20 for sockets, cable plug and bulbs. now just waiting for my timer, a cheap $9 one. most expensive thing for me was the palm peat, cant get coco or perlite in my area and nutes are expensive so im using what i got and hoping for the best. Very cool indeed. I think that's the mistake I made when germinating.

What kind of case you using? I decided to build a pc case, we'll see how that works out. Cost me about $50 to build.

i'm using a 16" x 16" x 7" case that i gutted. still busy with that cos I want to get some 12" flourecent lights for it. hopefully i can flower with those if i can get high powered ones.

My case. plan on putting a glass shield just below the lights to prevent the plants touching the bulbs. then have my plants on a plantform that i can lower as they grow. going to FIM them when they have 3 nodes then use LST and ScrOG to keep them nice and short.

Awesome you have the same exact dimensions as I do, case wise. Subbed to see how this turns out!

so, its 5 AM, about 4 days from "earthbreak", all 5 plants are looking good except number 3 whos lagging behind a bit but shes only 3 days old so... ok will start dating the progress now.

woke up at 3, so i checked my babies.

number 2 is all droopy. it was ok in the evening but was realy close to the light so i moved it a bit further now this. shd i put it closer?
number 3 is strong though, realy good leaf development and its nice and short.

i was watering with 1/5 strength fish emulsion, and i think i burned some of them, goin to swithch to spring water but its all 7+ ph where i am and i dont have my PH meter yet so i cant adjust. bummer, at least number 3 is doin ok, got 2 more seeds in soil so that makes 7, just making sure my bases are covered i have about 50 bag seeds still so, its trail and error, when ive succesfully grown these then ill order some fem seeds, unless i get a nice strong female, the I'll keep her as a mother. Pics soon

So i finally figured out that i was overwatering my plants and or they were too far from the light, the droopy one is still weak stemmed so i gave it a crutch. 2 of the 5 died but i got 2 more germinated and growing nicely.

I've mixed up some soil for the next set of seeds

50 % Palm Peat
20 % Sand
12 % gravel
12 % polymer crystals
8 % rice

what do you think of it? used what i could get. it feels nice and crumbly with good drainage and water holding capacity, getting about 20% runoff.

Rice? Really? Never heard of that before.
The only things that I don't see (but I'm far from any expert - just going on what I've read), you don't have any worm castings or perlite. Are those even needed?

yeah, id love to get those basics, but worm castings and perlite are harder to find here that a hippo in the desert. rice helps a bit with aeration. it dry rice by the way (uncooked) i want to order some perlite and castings but shipping would kill me. at 120$ for a 5 gallon bag shippin plus the 8 week wait. maybey if i order seeds ill consider it. but for the amount id like to grow its not worth the cost

Nice setup man. Hopefully will be starting my first grow soon, similar to this, pc case with CFLs but ideally I would like to switch to LEDs instead as they will make it easier to control temp of case. I don't sub any threads, ill keep checking in!

My temps have been in the mid to high 70's using CFL, as long as you have enough airflow and the girls are close enough to the lights, you don't have to worry about temp too much.
The biggest thing with PC case is space, you have to be smart with the space.

So 4 out of 7 germinated seed have died, either weak seed or errors on my part, 2 are goin strong. planted 2 more. my noby3 is goin strong finaly got her watering schedule almost perfect.
