1.keep temps in the 70-80 range, and try to keep them from deviating more than 10 degrees in range.keeping night temperatures and day temperatures the same will greatly increase thc vs a wide variation. 75 day and night is optimal. source: mel franks cannabis grow guide by mel frank & ED ROSENTHAL, High Times' 2006 Seed Guide.

2.keep humidity always above 50% and always below 70%. for veg 55-65% is optimal, for flower, 50-55% is optimal.rh below 48% will cause wilting and excess transpiration of the leaves sources:

3. improved ventilation will help increase co2 getting to the plants.get a fan with a fan speed controller and you can fine tune the temps as well.keep the exhaust fans mounted high as possible with the intake mounted low as possible and on the side opposite the exhaust. this way there is an updraft blowing co2 rich air through the leaves while making it harder for any pests to lay eggs on the undersides of the leaves. i didnt see the need to source

4. dont flush right before harvest. its best to flush 2 weeks before and at least 2 days before cutting so they dry out better. wont exactly help yield but will reduce the chances of mold which actually could help yield.

5. red light during veg is not productive as it causes stretch. however red light improves root growth and a combination of red and blue is very beneficial in the seedling stage but start to switch out the red so that after 1-2 weeks of veg it is mostly if not all blue light.

6. it has been noted that talking to your plants is good, this is because of the co2 you breathe out not exactly the sound. although there have been studies of music in the grow room improving yield vs control group. breathing slash talking to your plants whenever you can will yield higher co2 for about a couple seconds. if i breathe on my co2 meter it goes up 600 ppm.

7. for the first 2-3 waterings use molasses to boost the microbe population. this will help break down nutrients for your plants to use. after the 3rd watering with molasses dont do it again, normally microbes feed on the sugar from the roots and when you introduce outside sugar they eat that instead. youre just trying to boost their population not help them graze lol. keeping microbe feeding on your roots will help the plant uptake nutes even faster.source:

8. before flowering give your plants 2 days of absolute darkness. this kicks the flowering hormones into overdrive. likewise before harvest give it 2 days of darkness as well to help leach nutrients out of your bud.source:
Marijuana Grower's Handbook: Your Complete Guide for Medical and Personal Marijuana Cultivation

9. 1-2 tbsp of dolomite lime or similar buffer in your soil as a top dressing would greatly benefit your plants. to ph your water the acceptable range for soil is 5.9-6.5. lemon juice or distilled vinegar is acceptable for lowering, as well as baking soda for raising the ph. these are used in soil only and will complicate hydroponics systems.source:

10. aerate your water with an airpump before watering. this will keep it oxygenated and help the plants recover from the watering quicker. likewise adding one capful of hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water will do the same. do both. Source:
http://hos.ufl.edu/sites/default/files/faculty/gdliu/O2Basil.pdf

11. when watering, water completely. you cannot over water at one time this is why flushing works(it is possible to water too much but only if you let it pool in the tray). you want at least 10% runoff in your trays after words but get rid of the run off , the tray should have little to no water in it to prevent root rot. also do not water until the top 2 inches of soil is dry. you basically want to get it completely wet leaving no dry pockets(this removes stale air from the soil) and let it dry 2 inches deep from the top. ,Marijuana Grower's Handbook: Your Complete Guide for Medical and Personal Marijuana Cultivation

12. if you water with nutrients make sure you give it 2-3 waterings with nutes and 1 without and repeat. also balancing your nutrients is important. in organics this isnt much of a problem but if you have been using 7-1-1 or similar nute during veg you want to use a 0-6-7 or similar nute during flower. too much of one nute will lockout the uptake of another.

13. no nutes the last 2 weeks of flower. helps more with bud quality than anything. this applies to inorganic ferts. there has been debate about nutrients getting into bud and it is well none that heavy metals from inorganic phosphate fertilizers are notorious for this mainly lead cadium etc. source:http://www.academia.edu/2721257/Phosphate_mineral_fertilizers_trace_metals_and_human_health

14. never interrupt the dark cycle with light of any kind except green. source:http://www.crec.ifas.ufl.edu/academics/faculty/spann/PDF/5.pdf

15. cut a 2 liter in half invert the top into the bottom to make a funnel and fill with vinegar. this will be a trap for almost all pests and they will be more interested in the vinegar than your plants. keep it 10 ft from the grow box. if you are using ph down in the form of vinegar this trap is of the utmost importance. 2 or 3 are cheap and easy to make and will keep your plants away from pests.source: make this put it outside and prove it too yourself.

16. use a negative ion generator. negative ions have been shown to improve plant growth and half another benefit of reducing odors. this is not a co2 generator! you can buy them at walmart. make sure it generates negative ions it shoudl say somethign like 10,000 cubic centimeters per second or something like that.
17. go to radio shack and get the strongest magnifying glass. use this to look at your trichs before harvest. you want mostly cloudy trichs when there are over 10% amber trichs its harvest time

18. use a small amount of clay in your soil. clay has a negative charge and improves nutrient absorbtion. too much though can cause clumpy undesireable soil with much less air. the key is to mix it thoroughly with your regular soil. no more than 1 cup per gallon.

19. add supercoarse perlite(preferred) or fine perlite(still good) too your soil. even soils containing perlite can still benefit from extra perlite added. a study on different soil types concluded that 100% perlite in a hempy bucket is the preferred way to grow. it yielded 1.5 grams more on average than the other soils tested in a series of control groups etc. since this is in the beginner section i would not recommend a hempy setup. or even 100% perlite. the reason being it drains so well and is so airy that the plants will dry out quicker and even though alot of new growers tend to over water, i still feel there should be some dirt in your soil mix. 50% perlite 50% dirt is a good middle ground. also a layer of newspaper on the bottom of your planter with 1-2 inches of perlite will help prevent root rot.

19b. add vermiculite or moisture control crystals to your soil. these will help with over watering and slowly deliver water to your plants. moisture control crystals are not organic they are poly acrylates. use 2 tbsps of crystals per gallon of soil and mix thoroughly.30% vermiculite is a good ratio to have.

20. resist the urge to touch fondle the buds during flower. trichomes can break off and you will reduce the quality.

21. heat the roots.. use an aquarium thermometer to heat the water to 72 degrees farenheit. adding a seedling mat or even an aquarium heater to the soil near the edge of the planter will improve growth as well. keeping the plants roots a stable 72 degrees without fluctuation will help more than you can imagine.

Concerning #8...
My mentor shared the pre-flower darkness method although he does it from 3-5 days. I brought up the concept here in the newb section and was lambasted. Since have done a SBS (3 days) and the difference was indisputable.

As to the rest...thx, great post

thanks for all the new advice guys ill hope fully be able to incorperate some of this info on my next grow, ive learned so many very basic things that i didnt even think of when i first started. this grow is looking good for my first real grow and next time ill be ready with one strain and just going to know what to expect.

Here are the girls in the budding room, i brought the mail lined dreamwalker plant witch also turned out to be female (4 for 6 so far :D) but it is very lanky a very bad choice for mail lining. im thinking of sticking with LST for the next grow. either way the plants are a little over a month since i switched to 12/12 so im saying about 4 weeks flowering for the purple cotton and 3 for the dreamwalker going off of when they started showing signs of sexing. the purple cotton in the 3 gallon plastinc bucket is beautiful the buds are really starting to fill in and the trichs are really covering this one tthere big and they seem to just cover the plant... now the purple cotton plant in the mesh pot is looking ok but the buds are NOTICEABLY smaller and the plant is a lighter green idk what happened with that one but the crystals are much smaller they still cover the suger leaves and buds pretty good but so much smaller... and finally the dreamwalker is looking outstanding with the LST ther are 3 really good looking tops its not filling out as much as the purpple cotton but is a sativa so thats to be expected im thinking my original plan of 1 1/2 OZ out of the first grow is looking good im not getting my hopes up but my brother says 2 OZ wouldnt be out of the question :D and i have way to many vegging plants all my clones took and i dont have enough lights to flower them and no room in the veg tent lol WP_000445.jpgWP_000446.jpg WP_000447.jpg WP_000448.jpg WP_000449.jpg WP_000450.jpg WP_000452.jpg WP_000453.jpg WP_000454.jpg WP_000455.jpg

and finally a question since i dont get on to offten. for the lat week and a half the leaves on the plants are starting to turn yellow, i gave the plants some nuts and the buds did seem to fill out a but but the leaves are still getting yellow with brown spots in the middle of the leaves i made sure to give them about half the recommended abount of the nitrogen fert in the go box so we'll see what happens. but does anyone have any ideas about what may be happening?

veg tent has the two other plants i mainlined the bagseed form my bro and the purple cotton and a ton of clones i took while mail lining... so far all the seeds have turned out to be female so that means alot of clones that i can use but no lights to use them with... im homestly hoping the other two plants are males so i can make a little roomWP_000459.jpg WP_000460.jpg

ok a few updates. the better looking purple cotton plant is starting to really turn yellow and sadly also getting seeds :( it really sucks but it seems that both the purple cotton plants are getting really swollen glands with what im sure are seeds but hard to tell because there still really green. im also thinking the 2 oz is asking alot. for some reason the buds actually look smaller to me here are the plants including the mainlined dreamwalker plant. finally ive been watering every 3 days seems to be when the soil is dry and the budding plants did not like the nutes the started curling with 1/4 dose of the general organics go box, only gave them 2 feedings all grow. on the other hand the mainlined plant seems to love the 1/4 dose so after one more watering with reg water im going to give her 1/2 dose. i did start this plant at the same time but took a bit longer to get all 8 tops and since i havent transplanted since i started these plants on harvest i would think it would react the same to the nutes but whatever its looking really amazing :D

6 weeks since sexing started on the purple cotton plants
5 weeks 3 days since the dreamwalker started showing sex
2 weeks 3 days since mainlined dreamwalker started showing sex

a family picture of all the ladys :DWP_000462.jpg Dreamwalker with LSTWP_000463.jpgthe smaller of the purple cotton plants but some buds that look like they have some green seeds popping out WP_000464.jpgthe bigger Purple Cotton plant same with seeds WP_000465.jpg mainlined Dreamwalker plant looking really good but def not the strain for mainling had to do some major LSTWP_000466.jpg this is a better pic of the purple cotton plant thats turning yellow and purple by the buds still look amazing lots of crystals but leaves very yellos and about 50% of hairs turned any ideas is i should harvest or just wait the 2 weeks?WP_000467.jpg

Ok and another exciting anouncment ive moved out of the apartment and into a house with a friend so we have a whole basement now so i decided to get another tent and light. another reason why i did this is ive always wanted to produce all of my own smoke and this will let me do multiple harvests and of coarse to experiment!!! ive been working alot and have not been able to post very often but i feel confident i will be able to post at least once a week but enough about all that here are some picks of the whole setup and details about the new tent and light.

1 mainlined Purple Cotton plant (one of the seeds i started at the begging of the journal)
1 mainlined Bagseed my brother found and cant remember straine (also from begging of journal)
1 Purple Cotton clone (from the mainlined Purple Cotton plant)
1 Dreamwalker clone (from the mainlined Dreamwalker in T5 tent so only for sure female)
I have so many in this tent because im sure at least one is going to be male or i have the best luck with seeds from the dispensary

32''x32''x62'' grow tent with rotating fan at port
700 Watt MarsHydro2 with 140 5 watt diodes 10 band im not sure exactly what spectrum but i know it has several kinds of red, blue orange, white and IR.

Ive heard the all white LEDs are best but i got this for $227.00 on ebay and they sent alot of info on it witch was great but they say the light should be 3 1/2 feet about the plants does anyone know if this is really how far i should keep them, it doesnt seem very hot under the lights and my new tent isnt very high. either way we'll see how the light works im very excited to see how the "700 watt" led light does compared to the 648 watts from the T5.
WP_000470.jpgt5 tent with new led tent :) the led plants are getting 24 of darkness so will update tomorrow. and pics of the yellowing purple cotton plant you can see the yellowing and purple leaves with my gf's phone camera. any ideas whats going on? V__2799.jpg V__C91E.jpg WP_000468.jpg the veg tent with clones from all the mainlined plants i pretty much cloned every time i mutilated the plants so a mix of Purple Cotton Dreamwalker and the bagseed my brother gave me but i didnt lable them rookie mistake. either way after i harvest the the buding plants in the t5 tent im moving 3 plants over and flip this over to 12/12 so i can get these plants done with and really figure out what strain i want for my next cycle and be alittle better prepared WP_000469.jpg

ok so these are some new pics of the flowering tent including the new mars2 witch the plants seem to like. i have 4 plants in there, the bagseed that i mainlined and the purple cotton i mainlined along with a clone of the purple cotton and a clone of the dreamwalker. its very crowded in there but im pretty sure the purple cotton is male witch mean the clone will be too. and the bagseed already started sexing (5 out of 6 seeds!!!) and the dreamwalker clone i took from a female..

on another note i finally decided to pull the mature looking purple cotton. i know its a littler early but im pulling off leaves on a daily basis and i dont think itll make it another week. about 50% of the hairs are redish but still alot of white on the main cola. ill post picks when i can of the harvest tomorrow im giving it 24 hours of dark right now.

WP_000475.jpg my brother bag seed i mainlined is looking like it really loves the light and so does the dreamwalker clone. the purple cotton kinda seem like there leaves are soft and a little droopy but we'll see. its in the upper left corner very bushy.WP_000476.jpg purple cotton mainlinedWP_000477.jpg this is the purple cotton i lollipoped. i think its a maleWP_000478.jpg purple cotton mainlined. think its a maleWP_000479.jpgthe amazing bagseed my bro gave me looking like it loves the led :D WP_000480.jpg and the dreamwalker clone from the mainlined plant in the t5 flower tentWP_000481.jpgWP_000482.jpg so this is the plant im about to chop :/ the buds are starting to get some purple and the leaves around the buds are all purple now. and im sure you can see the leaves are falling off and yellowing. its been 7 weeks from the switch to 12/12 and it started showing only about 3 days later so about 50 days budding. what does roll it up think?

Well that all depends on you if you are wanting more of my couch just ate me alive I would wait a week or so.If you are wanting a little more heady effect stick a fork in her she is done.one question for ya are you planning on doing any flushing?I do got to say that is one nice beauty you got there though.good luck on the 2 oz and enjoy the fruits of your labour of love.

i did just give it water for the last week and a half but honestly with the FFOF i didnt really have to feed, only gave it nutes about 3 times and at 1/4 2 times and 1/2 once. and im defiantly a sativa guy so i think ill be happy :) i still have the other purple cotton so i can see the difference between a 7 week harvest and an 8 1/2 week flower. thank you

ok just cut my crop this morning and here are some pics of before/after trimming and the main cola witch looks amazing of coarse. and finally the buds hanging. ill post weight in about a 7-14 days depending on how long it takes... and after reading online i only cut off the fan leaves and will leave the sugar leaves on until they are dry. from what i have read that will make the buds smell and taste better? anyone have any input on that?WP_000483.jpg WP_000484.jpg WP_000485.jpg WP_000486.jpg WP_000488.jpg WP_000489.jpg WP_000490.jpg

so i couldn't help but check on the drying girls and clip a little nug (0.78G) and smoked it. buds were very sticky but in a bud that was a little less than a gram i found 3 seeds :/ the herb is definitely smokable and so sticky it was almost imposible to break up a bowl so still think it could use another few days drying and ill start curing in mason jars
. and as far as the smoke, its amazing i have a great combo effect of couch lock but a very creative and mentally up effect also if that makes sense. im listening to the carl sagan tribute series on youtube, feeling like i could conquer the world but im completely ok with just sitting here haha. the smoke creeped up on me but before i knew it i was stoned so itll be interesting to see how the smoke develops, it was quite harsh and didnt have much of a taste beyond a plant/slight skunk flavor so im hoping it getts as good as the high
...... ill post in another couple weeks when i pull the last purple cotton plant, i the dreamwalker plants still blowing up so maybe another 4 weeks or so
