First Grow Advice?

I'm going to be starting my first grow after the holidays but I'm collecting things I need first. This is what I'm thinking.

Light: 150W HPS. It should be enough to get me started in my 6'W x 1.5'D x 8'H closet. I can always add some cfls later to fill in dark spots.

Soil: Havn't decided exactly what soil I want to use but I want something with some nutrients in it so I don't have to add any the first couple weeks. I'm going to mix it with perlite to make air pockets for good root growth.

Nutes: I don't remember what brand it is but I'm going to pick up a "starter kit" of sorts. HTG Supply sells it for $35 and it has everything I will need.

Seeds: Since it's my first grow I'm going to use bagseed. I have 4 nice ones from a decent bag I got. I'll probably plant another 2-4 depending on what I can find. I have a bag of about 100 seeds that my friends and I have collected to choose from so hopefully I can find some that will sprout. I want to plant 6-8 total because I figure half will be male and I'll kill half of the remaining.

The light is the only thing set in stone so far. Let me know what you think (good or bad) so I can get things in order. Thanks for reading.

i would say you have most the basics covered. Make sure you have some sort of air circulation too. read up around this place as much as you can before you start your grow to ensure you dont make any mistakes right out of the box. Good luck man and i hope you succeed. you should make a journal once you start too

i have an idea for you that could work well. instead of soil get a pro 200 aerogarden and germ with it then remove the lights from the AG ofter veg and flower with the 150 hps. no soil needed. i would reccomend advanced Nutes Grow-Bloom nutes.

oh and as far as using them i would start using them at about 2 - 3 weeks after she pops. start at about 1/4 reccomended strength and work your way up to about 1/2 strength with the ADV NUTES, i dont kno about jacks stuff.

Thank you for the fast response. I've been reading around the site for a couple of weeks but never registered until lately. I will have an oscillating fan in the closet to keep the air from becoming stagnant. I'm planning on checking on the plants twice a day so that will take care of fresh air. If heat becomes a problem I can figure out a way to vent out of the closet itself. I would like to stay away from hydroponics on my first grow because I don't know a lot about the set up and theory. Maybe I will switch in the future but for now I would like to stick with soil. The nutrients I was planning on using were Advanced Nutrients I think. I don't know a lot about the different brands but the AN came with a lot of information and was within my price range. The guy at the store said it would be good for a first grow because everything is included and it told you what to use and when. Thank you for the link to Uncle Ben's. It was very helpful. Thank you everyone for your input.

so once i soak the seeds place them in paper towel so once the tap root shows i placed them in rapid root tree bark pods with pre-drilled holes then put inside of a hot house and waited for the sprout to come up once it did i removed the humid. dome i noticed two round leaves. i keep the rapid root moist with distilled water and "super thrive"(vitamins and root hormones) and under floros. the round leaves now r turning yellowish green and two pairs of true leaves r developing they're still tiny tho is this normal?
