First grow. [600w 4x4 tent] [Jack Herer + Blue Dream]

Hey guys,
So not much has happened since the last update.
So far the mites have been controlled (knock on wood) by alternating-weekly applications of Mighty Wash and h2o with Tabasco. I also began feeding the ladies with the General Organics line and have seen some growth, nothing to be wow'd over.
Two of the three jacks haven't grown much since I first acquired them, anyone have any ideas as to why?

Temps in my city have started to go down, which has been godsend for my garden and wallet. I was advised to purchase an AC unit, however, because I want/need a dual hose AC unit, I am still saving my pennies. Temps for the last couple weeks have been 75-81 (on average) during lights ON and 65-75 on lights OFF. rH has been all over the wall, as low as 20% during lights on to as high as 60% during a recent rain shower.

I have been doing a lot of reading lately. I recently picked up Teaming with Microbes by Jeff Lowenfels. It is a MUST read for all soil growers, IMO.
Also, I came across a couple of threads/posts which dissuade the usage of an air stone to aerate the h20+GO nutes becuase the nutes can become fermented, anyone ever heard of this?

Also I've found some seeds in my recent zips so I am experimenting with germination and sexing.
Again, thanks to everyone for all the help, it is greatly appreciated :leaf:

Here are some pics:

The ladies in their new home, 5ga smart pots. Notice the two jacks compared to the others...what gives?

This here is a NYCD seed which has germinated and sprouted. I also have a Big Skunk seed which is germinating in a shot glass with h2o.

I'm not sure why your growth is so stunted man, I would say the transplant slowed em up but they still should of put on a few nodes, it doesnt really look like they did anything. I'm chopping and cloning a mother plant of mine this week. If you happen to be in phoenix and want a few cuts try somthing new maybe its the gentics

Me either man. One of two smallest jacks is growing a little more but nothing compared to the other strains. Maybe it is the genetics, which sucks lol.

They are getting a gallon of water every watering. I do water-water-feed. They received enough water to get about 20-30% run off after transplant.

The smallest of the three jack herer's finally died. I was watering yesterday and slightly bent it to water the base and snap! Oh well it just wasnt meant to be. The starter plugs for this plant had not ONE single root poking out...shitty genes I think. The other ladies are doing good and getting ready to be cloned. I picked up a 48 site Botanicare cloner for a steal and hope to be cloning in the next couple weeks.

Hey n31, It wasn't a very nice looking little plant anyway, it looks like you just put it out of it's misery!

Haha I guess so but it still cost me some $$ for the clone. Hopefully my first attempt at cloning will be successful to make up for this.

Yeh that is always a pain, paying for things that die. My first couple attempts at taken cutting ended up around 40% success. I then brought a aquamiser and my ratio has gone to 100%. It is a great self watering propagation device.

Yeah thats why I went with an aeroponic cloner, I've always read that they are A) the easiest way to clone and B) tend to have the highest success rate. I was going to build my own 8 site cloner but I got this botanicare cloner for LESS than what it would have cost to build my own.

Howdy,
Not much going on yet. My ladies are looking healthier, it seems that using the tabasco mix is doing something to them, whenever they are sprayed they seem to slow down with growth a little. I am going to look for another organic pesticide to use to prevent gnats and spider mites. So far Mighty Wash has been doing great , I'm keeping this in my line up for a while. Can someone recommend something else to use to prevent against fungus gnats and spider mites, organic please? I have been super cropping my ladies, unfortunately I over did it on the healthiest jack. I thought it would recover but nope, it didnt. All is good because new growth has already started!
The Blue Dreams have new bright green growth coming in. It looks like pre-flowers but I could be wrong, Can anyone tell? If in fact they are pre-flowers is it wrong to keep vegging a little longer, so they get bushier, so I can yield a bit more?

On another note,
I found out about LC's Soiless Mix and am going to use it in my next run. I am using Pro Mix HP as a base, also adding EWC and dolomite lime. I am hoping to make myself a compost brewer in the next week or so. I also want to start brewing tea within two weeks, so the newest addition to the garden gets fed right :)

Speaking of which, the bag seed that popped was transplanted to the LC's mix tonight. It is looking very healthy (almost as big as one of the jacks that has been vegging for 2 months ) under my new t5 set up. The t5 light is a 4 bulb 2 footer. It is very bright and very cool. Since I did not go the SCROG route, I am using the screen frame as a light stand haha.

That's it for now, here are some pics.

Its been a while since I updated this, I must say I am a little disappointed in the RIU community. I joined because it seemed to me that it was the friendliest of the forums, but that hospitality isn't very open, oh well.
I dont know if I'll keep updating this thread since many of my questions weren't answered but we'll see...

ANYWAY

I finally took the leap and cloned. I cloned both my blue dreams for a total of 12 clones. I could have probably taken more but I was chicken shit when I was cutting the clones. I used my Botanicare 48 site cloner and man was it a bitch to keep in check. Every four hours I had to switch out four frozen water bottles or else temps would rise above 85f. Also the rubber grommet that holds the power cable to the water pump leaks. In two days I lost half of my water supply in the cloner, pretty shitty for something that retails at $300. Next time I clone I'll probably try root riot or rapid starter plugs, take longer cuttings, and possibly try a humidity dome.

I also picked up a Secret Jardin dr120 for flowering. I figured I was going to get it in the coming months anyway and hopped on a S T E A L on eBay. These babies go for $200+ online, I was fortunate enough to pay WAY less than that
I am very pleased with the tent. The zippers, the side doors and ESPECIALLY the draw string ducting. I can FINALLY run 6" ducting all through the tent, without having to use reducers.
In the tent I will be using two 6 inch inline fans, one for pulling air through the hood and the other pulling air through the carbon filter. Hopefully this keeps temps in check, we'll see.

Just the other day I picked up two new clones for the garden, Tahoe OG. I've never medicated with it, but hear nothing but great things about this strain. The clones I recieved have amazing roots, unfortunabtely after transplanting one of them to the LC's mix, I think one of them might be burning, althought I thought the purpose of adding food to the soil was to avoid this and have a constant supply for the micro-organisms WHEN they wanted it....any input? I'll attach a pic so ya'll can see.

That's it for now I guess.

Today I received my other 6 inch inline and I installed it. I used zip ties as retainers for the ducting, then taped the ducting on. All was going great. I plugged everything in and flipped my hps to 600w to test temps and rH.
In seconds the tent becomes a marshmallow, it looks like its about to rip at the seems.
My dumb ass flipped the fan so that it is sucking air through the ducting outside the tent through the carbon filter into the tent. Instead of sucking air through the carbon filter exhausting the tents hot air. It took me almost an hour to do everything.
LMAO experience owns.

On a happier note. The grow shop made me a sweet deal on a 4 foot t5 set up so now the veg tent has a 4 foot and 2 foot for great coverage. Hopefully the ladies will grow a bit more before I do some more cloning and flower em.
Pics soon...

Hey man don't know if I can Fix your problem, but I can help give you some advice.
It looks like to me like the root zone wasn't quite developed enough for the feeding it got. Not much you can do other than ride it out with r/o or low ppm water in the meantime, and make sure you are very gentle on the waterings DO NOT OVERWATER, the roots are stunted and could easily be drowned out by an overwater

I fed em last night, compost tea (ewc+molasses), but gave each about 44oz of aact. I hope that doesnt kill em :(
So do you suggest leting them get bone dry before feeding em again? Thank you so much for your response, it is truly truly appreciated, reps for you.

Anyone ever used PM Wash as a preventative measure for PM?
Also i was told that I shouldnt have put my clones into 1 gallon pots full of LC's Soiless mix becuase it's too 'hot', that instead I should add 2-3 cups of the Lc's mix to a 1 gallon pot of just Pro Mix HP, Any truth to this???

Your lil ladies look nute burnt to me bro.I would run just plain water... your soil/or whatever meduim you are using seems to hot for your lil ones....So I would say just water plain water for the next two or three watering, then start at 300ppm and work your way up slowly from there.

Today I received my other 6 inch inline and I installed it. I used zip ties as retainers for the ducting, then taped the ducting on. All was going great. I plugged everything in and flipped my hps to 600w to test temps and rH.

I put my clones in to three gallon bags doesnt seem to hurt them, infact I feel the less transplants equals less stress on your plant, so if you can run with no transplants do it. but thats just my train of thought. You can cut soil with lots of different thing, coco, perlite, vermiculite, other soil a mix of all above. So yes there is some truth to that. I would think you could run more like a 60/40 mix but I have never work with LCs and no nothing about its "hotness" but 2-3 cups seems a tish light in a one gallon bag. Happy growin bro
