Hey guys, I'm back.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Dream Star buds on the drying chamber was just PERFECT to go into the jar for curing. I'll wait another day or two for PK. (I harvested the after DS and PK buds are much denser and fatter.) I picked up 6 half-gallon mason jars on the way home, so as soon as I got home I trimmed the buds off the stem into the mason jars - one for popcorn buds and one for top colas. My crop filled up two jars to the top. I just smoke-tested a little piece of a popcorn bud. WOW! It's definitely super euphoric soaring high and it kicks in real fast. A big upper. Holy shit... I can say this is one of the strongest bud I have ever smoked, period. Insane. The smell is really really strong, too already. The hygrometer is stable around 72% so far. I'm going to leave the lid open for 5 hours for tonight. I'm going to ever so slooooowly lower the RH to the target zone.

After the trim, the dry weight from the 3 Dream Star plants turned out to be 211 grams (= 7.4 oz). The wet weight was 951 grams, so after the majority of moisture and all the stems are gone, 211/951*100 = 22% of the original weight. I left LOTS of stems for drying, so the number makes sense. I don't think PK would lose as much.

Great grow japon!! How much did u get each plant dry? Also how tall were they finished n way size pots?nice!!
Hey KUSh,

I got 7.4 ounces dry (so far) from three plants, so 2.4 oz each plant average. I trained them REALLY short (I wouldn't repeat doing that way) so it was about a foot from the soil all even at the harvest. Crazy, huh?

Well, a pound would of been nice but still brotha, job well done. :weed:
I know! But you know what? Come to think of it, I may have forgotten to add 25 grams to that number when I was weighing the buds. When I'll do the final weigh in, I will confirm.

The RH quickly raised to 75% inside the mason jars, but instead of dumping them out on a paper on this dry day (I really don't want to risk losing too much moisture in the buds all at once. I think the curing is about retaining the moisture within the range where the residual enzyme continues to work, but not mold.), I came up with the idea of sealing the jars with paper towels. Voila! Now it's at 69%. I bet the humidity inside this tall jar is kept more even, too. I can regulate the amount of moisture escape by partially covering the top with the lid piece, instead of having to worry about burping them too much or too little, especially when I'm away.

I can't believe I'm holding two 1/2 gal jars full of quality medical marijuana that I've just spent so much love and energy into for the last 3 months! And that's only a half of it!

Great idea dude. I don't know why I haven't thought of that. You could even use cheesecloth to adjust how much it breathes now that you have me thinking. :-)

First off.. damn good job. I'm getting ready to do some indoor myself, learned a lot from you posts.

Anyway, see that bananna in your second picture? I think that is a nanner.. one of your plants might have hermied on you. I had the same thing happen this summer on my outdoor. I caught it in time.. only found one seed after all the trimming was done. +1 for you bud.. splendid job. Be careful with jarred RH over 70..

Hey, thanks for your +Rep. Yes, I did see the banana. It's in the first pic, too. I was carefully watching for seeds, but I didn't see any. I must have harvested at the right timing. Whew. The Dream Star was still too moist, so I dumped them out to a sheet of paper and I'll leave it over night in a closet. Thanks for the warning! And good luck with your first indoor. It's SO MUCH FUN!!!

Hey guys!

I just trimmed the buds off the stems of PK. It turned out to be 205 grams (7.2 oz).

This makes the total dry weight of my first crop from the six plants under 400W HPS and 432W T5.....

416 grams (= 14.6 oz)!! It's exactly 0.5 gram per watt in yield.

I'm a liiiittle disappointed that it didn't go over a pound, but I guess it's going to be the goal for my second grow, right? I think I know what needs to be improved and such.

The smell of PK in the jar is VERY different from Dream Star. Dream Star has almost green tea or seaweed smell to it. PK is very sharp and pungent... Such a distinct aroma. The purple color came out real nice, too.

7 ounces of goodness in two 1/2 gal mason jar for curing

I'm going to log everything you did with this, "first time grow". I am getting everything I need for my first soon and if you can do this, I believe I can too. This is one hell of a grow and if you told me it was your 10th, I'd believe it.

Wow. Thanks for your compliment, man! Yes, you can! I don't remember if I mentioned on this thread before, but I do have experience in growing orchids, succulents and all sorts of living things. I've just never grown marijuana or anything completely indoor like this. I enjoyed the total control I had in this tiny grow tent. I think the government did a great job in creating unscientific myths and BS by not funding public research in cannabis growing. I'm sure we all growers made an amazing progress in growing methods, but just because the majority of information tells you to do in certain ways, especially on the Internet, it doesn't mean that is correct. I always want to question the conventional method and find the scientific reasoning. I'm going to warm up the idea for my second grow for about a month and I'll do it "more right" next time around!

Haha! Thanks!! Yeah, he is my partner in crime. You know how cats love eating wheat grass and throw up eventually. Well, my cat doesn't throw up from eating cannabis blades. Funny how he hears me unzip the grow tent and rushes into my bedroom, stick his head between the zippers so we can trim lower fan leaf tips. I actually left some leaves on the carcass of the plants so he can eat some for a while. I call it "salad time" and he knows it. I was careful removing cat hair off of my buds, though. Those are like perfect sticky lint rollers... I wasn't worried about him bringing any pest since he is strictly an indoor cat. He is too pretty for outside. He is much better suited in the indoor jungle... :)
HA that is JUST like my cat. Mine is a girl though. She eats fan leaves off the plant, too, but she likes it better when I use the leaves to play with her. Then she gets to tear it up at the end and eat it haha. Mine stays inside, too, I just worry about the bugs I can't see. I know I have pest control, etc.... but I know they're there! Anyways, no problems yet.....and she DEFINITELY knows the sound of that zipper and comes running, too.

I'm determined to make the curing PERFECT so I've bought just enough Boveda 65% packets and small hygrometers from Amazon.

Boveda is made for cigar humidor. Inside the water vapor permeable pouch, there is gel of saturated salt water. If the surrounding environment is drier than 65%, the pouch releases water and raise the RH to 65%. If it's wetter, it absorbs water so it stays at 65%. All my jars have been stable around 65-67%, so I put one Boveda in each jar (there are four 1/2 gal jars). Now all I have to do is to watch for the mold and monitor the RH just in case. Awesome. I bet this is how people cure around here in Bay Area before selling it to dispensaries.

Whew. I think this is probably the first time ever I don't have to worry about things that could go wrong since I started the grow 3 months ago - I can really relax and wait till the flavor and aroma come out. AND I can sleep without that sound of the exhaust fan!

Cheers,
Japonicus

P.S. I'm going to post the same info to the curing/harvesting board out there as well so that more people can find out about this method.

LOL! Are you sure microwaving the pouch is a good idea?? That sounds potentially messy... I'd just leave it out to dry for a little if the pouch seems bloated from absorbing too much liquid. What do you think? So, you've used it before, kev?

If you do choose to reactivate them we suggest the following: Leave the Silica Gel crystals in the Tyvek Bag. Place the entire bag on a cooking sheet and place the sheet into a vented 240 degree F° oven for at least 3 hours. After drying out the bags place them into a sealed container with a Humidity Indicator Card that has one or more pink circles. When all circles return to the blue color, which may be several hours, you know that your Silica Gel is ready to go to work again protecting your valuables.
Aluminum Canister - 40 Gram Unit: When the blue silica gel beneath the inspection window turns pink, reactivate as follows: Place the unit in a vented 300 degree F oven for at least 3 hours. (Or until the silica gel turns blue again.)
1 Lb. Foil Pack- Remove the Silica Gel granules and the Humidity Indicator Card from the foil pack. Spread the Silica Gel granules on a cooking sheet and put the sheet into a vented 240 degree F oven for at least 3 hours. When the granules have cooled down return them and the Humidity Indicator Card back to the Foil Pack. Within several hours the circles on the Humidity Indicator Card will turn blue which means that your Silica Gel is ready to be used again. If you are not going to use the Silica Gel immediately be sure to store the pack in a good air tight container.

When the center circle turns pink reactivate the unit as follows: Remove the bag of silica gel granules from the unit and place the bag in a vented 240 degree F oven for at least 3 hours. Replace the bag in the unit (it may take several hours for indicating circles to turn blue again.) Replacement Humidity Indicator Cards are also available.
