SO this is my first grow ever. and i just used a flowerpot, MG soil, bagseed, feed spike for flower(the kind u can get at drugmart for 5 bucks and they feed for up to 2 months), and 2 26w and 2 13w cfl(both softwhite) and a shop light(coolwhite). i started outside and moved inside when i wanted to start flowering. For flowering i just soaked 2 of those spikes in a gallon of water and used that for my nutes. when it was outside i would just used the same shit i did on my sunflowers(wich are huge). everything turned out great (so far). i am still not 100% sure of the day to harvest, so im just gonna play it by eye. maybe update this thread with more pics the farther along she comes. and i have another one that i just recently put in flowering. and she is look great. i can tell im getting better already.

after reading up on these forums day and night and after never joining untill a few days ago i got the info i need to figure out enough to throw this together. THANKS EVERYONE

and now im just a week or so away from harvest( i think) and i cant wait to smoke MY buds!!! it feels great to say that. so here is some recent pics. and i would be glad to awnser any questions that anyone has to offer. thanks again RUI

Good looking ladies for the cfl setup you've got, what strain are you growing, and do you keep up with nute levels or ph?

the strain on the older lady is unknown from bagseed. and the younger one in the last pic is seeds that my uncle got from his friend that grew and didnt pull his males. his seeds were supposedly from the internet when he started growing. but i can definitly tell the difference

and i have never checked the PH and in the thread it states that the only nutes i use were fertilizer spikes that were disolved in water

here's some more pics from when she was younger. its a blast watching her grow. and i must say that no matter how much people swear by CFL's... it does take a long time to flower. well atleast it seems like it does. and since this is bagseed and i dont know the strain it could be just a long flowering plant.. but the younger lady is flowering a hell of a lot quicker than my first one.

Sexy girls. The one could be coming along much nicer than the other just because of better genetics. I take it the one you got from your uncle is the one that is growing better?

that is correct.

and he gave me a shitload of them seeds too.

tommorrow i am going to post new pics, and i was wondering if any of you novice growers have any suggestions when to harvest her. i was thinking in about a week. the very first pics in this thread are the most up to date ones. so if anyone has any input before i post the new pics. fell free to share.

but for now, bongloads because i just got off work:mrgreen: bongsmilie

thanks

Well Id suggest you gauge your harvest time by your trichomes, when they are cloudy and mostly amber colored. You can get a magnifying glass to see them better and know when to harvest.

i think im gonna harvest according to the color change of the pistils and the trics. i have a decent camera and can get a good look at the trics. half are about cloudy. and like 14% of the pistils are turning orangish. i think i will know when she looks "done". if i dont get it perfect this time around i will know alot more for when the other lady is ready to be harvested.

Yup, very true. Just remember that its like a fine wine, if you harvest at the right time the buzz can knock you on your ass, lol. Good luck!

You need to examine trichs under high magnification to know when to harvest. A 30x loupe will do, you can get a pocket microscope at Radio Shack for $12. Look at trichs in a number of locations, you'll have to trim a bit of leaf to do it. Look at multiple locations on each leaf. If the average is approaching 50% amber trichs it's time to chop. Most growers chop too early rather than late.

Thanks for the advice illegal smile. i have been meaning to go out and get a microscope for quite some time now. and i have also heard that u can judge your harvest based on the color of the pistils. when most of the have withered into the flower and turned orangish brown. is that a good way to judge? or should i just go by trichs? thanks again

It's tricky. You're probably safer going by trichs.
You pretty much have heard cloudy=heady amber=body
What does 50% red pistils say about the high? Nothing.
Pistils are too general. Trichs are a bit more precise. Although not much is set in stone.
And you don't need a microscope. Once they start to amber up, you can see with the naked eye.
Checking one or 2 small leaf tips doesn't give you that good an indication. 5-15x loop is all you really need.
I only use this to make sure i don't have many clear trichs.
But you really can see the color change from cloudy to amber without an aid. At least the strains i grow, i can.
